Barnsley will look to extend their winning roll to a fourth game as they host struggling Crawley Town.

Charlton Athletic, fresh from ending Wycombe's unbeaten streak, welcome another challenge in Reading.

Exeter City boss Gary Caldwell insisted there is no discipline issue among the coaching staff earlier this week but his red card on New Year's Day means he's suspended as Bolton Wanderers visit.

Shrewsbury Town's four league game unbeaten run isn't enough to see them out of danger and they will be hoping the magic hasn't run out in their trip to Leyton Orient.

Orient, however, are are on quite the streak themselves and have taken victory in all four of their previous four matches, while Lincoln City will want to stop the rot of lost games at three when they host Stevenage.

Having lost top scorer Louie Barry, Stockport County will look to prove they have enough teeth to reach a play-off spot as Mansfield Town make the trip to Edgeley Park.

Aaron Morley scored a last-gasp penalty to help Wycombe beat Exeter 2-1 on New Year's Day in what proved to be his parting gift.

Morley has been recalled by his parent club Bolton following a loan spell, as has Caleb Taylor.

The table-topping Chairboys will have to adapt to life after those two as they continue their hunt for automatic promotion.

Matt Bloomfield's side saw their remarkable 19-game unbeaten run ended by Charlton on 29 December but bounced back to make it 15 wins from 20.

They welcome Blackpool, who are 15th and without a win in four (D3 L1) following on from a run of three straight wins.

Steve Bruce's side began the day nine points above the drop zone and 10 points behind the play-off spots. The next few weeks might well decide which end of the table the Tangerines will be scrapping at.

  3. Peterborough sign Fleetwood's Johnstonpublished at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

Before their League One game today, Peterborough have announced that they've signed Fleetwood full-back Carl Johnston for a "sizeable six-figure fee".

The 22-year-old has signed what the club describes as a "long-term contract" with Posh.

He will make his debut from the start against Wrexham.

  4. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Bradford 3-1 Grimsby

Bradford storm ahead of Grimsby in the Leagie Two table thanks to goals from Lewis Richards, Alex Pattison and a converted penalty from captain Richie Smallwood.

Grimsby defender Cameron McJannet sought redemption for conceding the penalty by heading in a goal of his own but it wasn't enough to see the Mariners challenge for all three points.

  5. Parkinson's 1,000th game to end with Wrexham on top?published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

Posh boss Darren Ferguson will have a bird's eye view of his side's trip to Wrexham this afternoon but it's not where he wants to be.

He's been handed a one-match touchline ban following their 3-1 defeat by Barnsley just before the New Year and now has to watch from the stands as the Cambridgeshire side take on a formidable foe.

Wrexham are unbeaten at home in 17 league games (W15 D2) but will need a win to see themselves in with a chance to top the League One table.

Given that Peterborough haven't won any of their past four league games, they will fancy their chances of doing so.

It'd certainly be a way to finish Red Dragons boss Phil Parkinson's 1,000th game in management, wouldn't it?

  7. Rested Latics host title-chasing Bluespublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Wigan v Birmingham (15:00 GMT)

Birmingham boss Chris DaviesImage source, Rex Features

Wigan Athletic have enjoyed the luxury of a whole five days off since they last played after their game at home to Huddersfield was postponed due to bad weather on New Year's Day.

The Latics, who began the day 16th, lost 2-1 at Wrexham in their most recent game on 29 December but were unbeaten in three before that (W2 D1).

They welcome Birmingham City, who dropped two points in the race for automatic promotion in an entertaining 1-1 draw at Stockport three days ago.

Blues are unbeaten in eight, although they have drawn their past two following a run of six straight wins.

Victory today would see them remain in the top two and could even see them return to the summit, depending on how Wycombe get on.

  8. Tough Terriers test for Millerspublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Huddersfield v Rotherham (15:00 GMT)

John Smith's StadiumImage source, Rex Features

Promotion-chasing Huddersfield welcome Rotherham, who have won on just one of their past 18 visits (D2 L15) to the John Smith's Stadium.

The Terriers weren't in action on New Year's Day as their trip to Wigan was called off, but Michael Duff's side are on an excellent 13-game unbeaten run (W9 D4).

Huddersfield are also unbeaten in their past eight home games in the league (W6 D2).

The Millers, who began the day 17th, did beat Huddersfield 2-1 in the reverse fixture and victory would help them claim a first league double since the 1963-64 season.

But Steve Evans' team will have to end a miserable record to do so, having failed to win any of their past 33 away games on a Saturday since a 2-0 win over Gillingham in April 2022.

Salford are in fine form, having won their past five league games. They make the trip to Stadium MK to face an MK Dons side who picked up their first win in five last time out against Chesterfield.

Barrow, who have just won one of their past 13 League Two games, host a struggling Harrogate side who have lost six out of their past seven games, with Simon Weaver's side sitting just two points adrift the drop zone in 22nd.

Colchester, who fell to their first league defeat in 10 games after a 3-2 loss at Swindon on New Year's Day, host an Accrington side who in turn picked up their first win in eight last time out against Grimsby.

And we have a big game at the foot of the table as Tranmere, who began the day two points from safety in 21st, welcome bottom club Carlisle to Prenton Park. Both sides have just won once in their past eight league games.

  10. 'Really well deserved three points' for Roverspublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    FT: Cambridge 0-1 Bristol Rovers

    Lee Mansell
Former Bristol Rovers midfielder on BBC Radio Bristol

Really well deserved, a welcome three points that creates a gap in the table. It was a war of attrition, not a game of quality but the points are coming back to the blue side of Bristol.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Bradford 3-1 Grimsby

Grimsby make two more changes as Rekeil Pyke and Donovan Wilson come in for Evan Khouri and Jason Dadi Svanthorsson.

But is too late for a comeback?

  12. 'Emotional day' ahead for Moorepublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

Doncaster v Port Vale (15:00 GMT)

    Naz Premji
    BBC Final Score reporter

This could be an emotional day for Vale boss Darren Moore.

He returns to the club he played for 76 times in the mid 1990s. He also managed Doncaster Rovers and was very popular before he moved to Sheffield Wednesday and master minded the world-famous Miracle of Hillsborough!

A short and unhappy stint at Huddersfield Town followed, before his current job at Vale Park.

Port Vale were flying high and top of League Two but a very poor spell recently has seen them drop down the table.

Doncaster are one of several teams trying to chase down runaway leaders Walsall and Grant McCann knows wins in games like this will only enhance their promotion credentials.

Billy Sharp's stoppage-time winner saw Doncaster edge past Fleetwood last time out. With Walsall not playing, they’ll be aiming to keep the winning run going and close their gap to the League Two leaders.

Grant McCann’s side have lost four of their past five league games against Port Vale (W1), though they did win the reverse fixture this season 3-2 at Vale Park.

It’s no wins in eight league games now for Port Vale after their goalless stalemate at home to Cheltenham on Wednesday.

Darren Moore's promotion hopefuls, who last won in the league on 16 November, have lost three of their past four away league games against sides from Yorkshire (W1), conceding 11 goals in total across that time.

They have, however, won each of their past two away Football League games against today’s opponents and will be looking to record three in succession for the first time since 1980.

Vale have Jaheim Headley making his debut after making the left-back their first signing of the January window from Huddersfield.

  15. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Cambridge 0-1 Bristol Rovers

Luke Thomas' first-half header proves the difference as Gas boss Inigo Calderon celebrates his first win in charge, while more weight is added onto the shoulders of Cambridge head coach Garry Monk.

Bristol Rovers thought they had a second when substitute Isaac Hutchinson found the net but a delayed offside flag saw the goal discounted, much to the confusion of the away fans.

From then Cambridge felt the more dominant side but weren't able to capitalise on any of their chances to leave them disappointed.

Even more so after losing captain Michael Morrison to a second yellow card.

  16. RED CARD FOR CAMBRIDGEpublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Michael Morrison (90+3 mins)

Cambridge captain Michael Morrison and Gas defender James Wilson engage in a wrestling match in the box while they await a U's corner and it provokes a little chat between the referee and his assistant.

The chat doesn't go well for either party as they are both brandished a yellow card.

Extra painful for Morrison, who was already on a booking and now has to tread down the tunnel.

  17. 'Notts got the job done and did it comfortably'published at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    FT: Notts County 2-0 Swindon

    Mark Stallard
Former Notts County striker on BBC Radio Nottingham

The result is always the most important thing, and Notts got the job done and did it comfortably.

They were not at full throttle but they didn't need to be. A very professional job done, which after a defeat is all you can ask for.

  18. goal

GOAL: Bradford 3-1 Grimsbypublished at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Alex Pattison (69 mins)

Alex Pattison winds up from outside the box and unleashes an almighty strike.

It hits the inside of the woodwork but deflects off to ripple the back of the net.

  19. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Notts County 2-0 Swindon

Notts County return to winning ways thanks to David McGoldrick's brace to see them move up to third in the League Two table ahead of the 3pm kick-offs.

Swindon's unbeaten run in their previous four games comes to an end with Ian Holloway's side remaining 19th and four points from safety.

  20. INJURY TIMEpublished at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January

    Cambridge 0-1 Bristol Rovers

Cambridge forward Josh Stokes drives into the box and seems untouchable but his pop at goal drifts wide of the net.

Could that have been their last chance?

Possibly not as a further eight minutes are announced to the crowd.
