    Blackburn 0-0 Hull

Hull City have never won consecutive visits to Blackburn Rovers and having claimed victory in their last trip to Ewood Park, they might see this as a way of ending their year on a high.

They will need to beat a Rovers side who are mighty confident though and they've started firing already as Makhtar Gueye tries to flick the ball into the net but meets a defender instead.

  2. Hatters make the ideal startpublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Swansea 0-1 Luton

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales at the Swansea.com Stadium

It has been a long old year on the road for Luton Town, who have managed just one victory away from Kenilworth Road in 2024.

They have lost eight Championship away games in succession since that solitary travelling triumph, at Millwall in mid-September.

Can they improve that dreadful record this afternoon?

They have made the ideal start, thanks to uncharacteristic error from Swansea keeper Lawrence Vigouroux which presented Carlton Morris with the opening goal.

    Watford 0-1 Cardiff

Watford are unbeaten at home this season and Cardiff are yet to win away. Could that be about to change this afternoon after that early goal for the Bluebirds?

What a dream start that is for Cardiff. Callum O'Dowda down the left-hand side with loads of space, picked out an excellent low cross to Callum Robinson.

Talking of space, he's about 16 yards out, he's got three or four yards of room around him, so he pulls the trigger and finds the bottom corner of the net.

And then runs 50 yards to celebrate with his under pressure manager Omer Riza.

    Coventry 0-0 Millwall

Millwall have made a bright start at Coventry and carved out a few early chances.

Ryan Leonard has a shot well blocked by Jake Bidwell, with the effort eventually going wide for a corner.

Just moments later, Japhet Tanganga sends a header over for the Lions.

What a start for Luton but a nightmare one for Swansea keeper Lawrence Vigouroux.

He goes to clear his lines only to hit it straight at Luton skipper Carlton Morris who volleys home.

    Quick bit of housekeeping here.

Stoke were forced to make a VERY late change to their starting line up after Eric-Junior Bocat picked up a knock in the warm up.

Lynden Gooch comes in in his stead

    What a start for Cardiff!

Callum Robinson has fired the visitors ahead inside a minute.

Callum O'Dowda and Chris Willock with some good link up play before O'Dowda crosses for Robinson, who sets himself and slots home.

    That wasn't in the script.

Hello from Oxford United's Kassam Stadium.

Both sets of players have finished their warm-ups and headed back down the tunnel for their final instructions before kick off.

The sound system is blaring out plenty of loud music as we get closer to kick off, both sides will be keen to finish 2024 with a win.

There will be many on Alex Neil watch at the CBS Arena today, with the former Norwich, Preston, Sunderland and Stoke boss reportedly close to taking the top job at Millwall.

Millwall lost at the Canaries on Boxing Day, and they get a bit of a rejig with striker Macaulay Langstaff and midfielder George Honeyman coming into the starting XI.

Meanwhile, Coventry get only a minor tweak from boss Frank Lampard as the in-form forward Ephron Mason-Clark is forced out because of injury.

  12. Time running out for Rooney?published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Oxford v Plymouth (15:00 GMT)

    Wayne RooneyImage source, Rex Features

Is it too early in the season to call a game a six-pointer? Maybe.

In any case, bottom-of-the-table Plymouth can ill afford to lose at 20th-placed Oxford today.

The Pilgrims are without an away win all season and haven't taken three points since beating Portsmouth on 5 November.

Boss Wayne Rooney said after Boxing day's 4-0 hammering at Coventry that he is the right man for the job but a heavy loss to the U's could leave that decision out of his hands.

New Oxford boss Gary Rowett is looking to make it successive wins after starting with a 3-2 victory over Cardiff on Thursday.

    Coventry v Millwall (15:00 GMT)

Coventry manager Frank Lampard smilesImage source, Rex Features

It was only three weeks ago that a trip to Millwall delivered a first win for Frank Lampard as Coventry City boss.

Today, the Lions are welcomed to the CBS Arena by a Sky Blues side that could go above Millwall if they were to repeat the result.

Just two places and a solitary point separates Lampard's side and the Londoners, who remain without a manager as they look for a replacement for Neil Harris (more on that shortly.)

Coventry have managed three wins in their past five games, and are coming off the back of a thumping 4-0 victory against Plymouth, while the Lions have notched up just a single win in from their past eight.

  14. Swans and Hatters in search of consistencypublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Swansea v Luton (15:00 GMT)

    Liam CullenImage source, Getty Images

Swansea go into today’s game after bouncing back to form with a 3-0 win over QPR last time out. It was a fine response following two dispiriting defeats before Christmas, with Luke Williams' team triumphing for only the second time in six matches.

The Swans are winless in their last five league games against Luton Town (D2 L3) since a 1-0 win in March 2021 but they’ll be hoping striker Liam Cullen continues his good form after scoring his sixth goal in eight games following his brace against QPR.

Luton slipped down to 18th after suffering their 12th defeat of the season when they lost 1-0 at Bristol City on Thursday.

However the Hatters have won their last two away league matches against Swansea. In fact they are looking to win three in a row for the first time.

Rob Edwards’ side will be looking to avoid another defeat on the road after losing their past eight away games.

Bristol City v Portsmouth (15:00 GMT)

Bristol City come into today looking for a third win in four home Championship games at Ashton Gate.

Manager Liam Manning might also be pleased to hear that the Robins are unbeaten in their past six home league matches against Portsmouth, a run stretching back to 1991.

Pompey currently find themselves one point clear of the drop zone and they could do with a confidence boost away from home, having not won on their travels since October.

That said, they were unlucky not to get more from Boxing Day's narrow 2-1 defeat at Watford, losing to a 95th minute goal at Vicarage Road.

  16. Watford aiming to end year with unbeaten home record intactpublished at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Watford v Cardiff (15:00 GMT)

    Vicarage RoadImage source, Getty Images

Play-off hopefuls Watford will be looking to stretch their unbeaten home record to 12th league game when they welcome Cardiff to Vicarage Road.

They’ll need to improve their recent record against today’s opponents if they are to do so as they have lost their last three home league games against the Bluebirds and have only won two of their last 11 against them at Vicarage Road (D4 L5).

Watford haven’t won their final league match of the year in any of the last three years (D1 L2) since beating Norwich 1-0 in 2020.

It’s no wins in nine games in all competitions for second-from-bottom Cardiff whose struggles continued last time out when they fell to a 3-2 defeat at Oxford.

Their form at Watford is good though and will be looking to win consecutive league games against them for the first time since a run of three between March 2009 and March 2010.

    Blackburn v Hull (15:00 GMT)

BBC Radio Humberside's Mike White sees the January window as 'season-defining' for struggling Hull City and you can see why.

In the first half of 2024, the Tigers saw themselves just a smidge away from a play-off spot under then-boss Liam Rosenior at the conclusion of last season.

Then came the start of this campaign.

An axed Rosenior was replaced by Tim Walter, who was promptly sacked a few months later and now new boss Ruben Selles gets to begin the final game of the year with a team third from bottom of the table.

Comparatively, hosts Blackburn Rovers finished their dismal 23-24 season in 19th place but are going into this afternoon in a play-off spot.

Can Blackburn end on a high or will Hull City salvage their winter blues before the transfer window opens its doors?

  18. Can Shawcross steady sinking Stoke ship?published at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Stoke v Sunderland (15:00 GMT)

    Stoke CityImage source, Rex Features

It was far from a merry Christmas for Stoke City and boss Narcis Pelach.

The Potters fell to a 2-0 home defeat by Championship leaders Leeds in the fog and Spaniard Pelach was relieved of his duties the following day after just three months in charge.

Club legend Ryan Shawcross is in temporary charge, for the second time this season, as they look for a first win since beating Blackburn back on 6 November.

Visitors Sunderland had to settle for a point from their visit to Ewood Park on Thursday but are in fine form as they look to keep pace with the top three.

It'll be a long wait for Sheffield United - who inch on top thanks to their 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion - until Leeds and Burnley have their chance to usurp them later on today.

Meanwhile, a 12th draw of the season for the Baggies sees them unable to claw into a play-off spot and Norwich's point from behind against QPR puts them into the top 10.

    For now.

Still much more to come as our attention turns to the 15:00 GMT kick-offs.

A superb draw from Albion's point of view.

You could not fault their commitment and work rate.

They've worked hard to come from a goal down.

Not many come here and get anything, but it's been a great day for the Albion.
