    Rangers v St Johnstone (17:45)

Rangers manager Philippe Clement wants his side to move on from the disappointment of their midweek loss against Dynamo Kyiv.

"It's part of football and part of life," he tells BBC Scotland. "If you keep on grieving, you miss out on other opportunities and chances, so you cannot do that as a top professional and someone who wants to work in football.

"It’s about standing up and showing your qualities again. It was a hard blow for sure, with these circumstances, with this crazy decision of the referee, but we need to look forward now.

"The most important thing today is a result. We’re working hard to do that and to make the players and the squad better and to gel them together better and integrate the new players as fast as possible and develop the young players in the squad.

"I know there’s a bright future for Rangers because I know things will only become better."

    Rangers v St Johnstone (17:45)

Rangers make five changes following Tuesday's loss to Dynamo Kyiv. Dujon Sterling, Kieran Doweel, Vaclav Cerny, Rabbi Matondo and Danilo all start as Connor Barron, Cyriel Dessers, and Ross McCausland drop to the bench and injured Ridvan Yilmaz as well as Tom Lawrence miss out.

Just the one alteration for St Johnstone with Graham Carey taking over from Aaron Essel, who is not in the squad.

  14. Saints' poor Rangers recordpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers v St Johnstone (17:45)

St Johnstone lost all three meetings with Rangers last season by an aggregate of 8-0 and they have suffered four straight defeats away to the Glasgow side since a penalty shoot-out Scottish Cup win at Ibrox in April 2021.

  15. Kimpioka and Sidibeh in spotlightpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers v St Johnstone (17:45)

Craig Levein's visitors have had a mixed start to the season but arrive at Hampden on the back of an impressive 3-0 win over Kilmarnock, albeit the hosts were down to 10 men for most of game.

The form of Benjamin Kimpioka, with six goals already this season, and fellow striker Adama Sidibeh, with four, has led to media speculation about their futures and scouts will be keen to see how they test a Rangers defence that lost left-back Ridvan Yilmaz to injury on Tuesday.

Indeed, St Johnstone have not scored in the latest five meetings between the sides since winning at McDiarmid Park in November 2022.

  16. Will Rangers' Hampden woes continue?published at 17:34 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers v St Johnstone (17:45)

Cup holders Rangers will look to put Tuesday's Champions League qualifying defeat by Dynamo Kyiv behind them in the first of four all-Premiership ties this weekend.

It means Philippe Clement's side return to the national stadium having won just one of their four outings this season - last Saturday's narrow defeat of struggling visitors Motherwell.

Rangers' temporary home amid Ibrox renovations was far from full to watch them against the Ukrainians.

How many will turn up to see them against less lauded opponents from the east after such a European body blow? Hampden is looked a tad empty at the moment.

  19. Half-full Hampden test for cup holderspublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers v St Johnstone (17:45)

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Hampden Park

Half-full might be on the generous side as Rangers set out to retain this silverware.

This looks likely to be one of the emptiest "home" Rangers crowds I can recall and is a sign of the collective feeling of malaise that has engulfed the club since the midweek Champions League blow.

St Johnstone, on the other hand, might feel this is a real opportunity to make an early impression on this season. They come here off the back of a great result with a bit of threat up top characterising their early season efforts.

This might not be as straight-forward as some might expect.
