  13. McCabe 'would be fraud' to turn back on principlespublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 17 August

    FT: Dundee 6-1 Airdrieonians

Airdrieonians player-manager Rhys McCabe told BBC Sportsound: "The manner in which we lose the goals is the frustrating part. There was large parts of the game where there was decent enough stuff. We were playing against a difficult operator, so we knew it was going to be tough. We lost four goals from set pieces, there’s basics there we could and should have done better with. But Dundee were good.

"That’s the difference the further up the levels you go. We were on the ascendancy and we get a reaction from half-time which is obviously pleasing, but then shortly after that we concede. Those are the areas we need to manage a bit better but we will learn from the experience.

"I'd be a fraud to tell the boys at our level that we want to play this style of football, but the minute you come up against someone who’s a little bit [superior] to you, we throw our principles in the bin. I’m a firm believer in that style of entertaining football, it works for us.

"There’s going to be mistakes along the way, of course. It’s a learning process. But ultimately, I’m trying to prepare these young lads for hopefully big moves in their career. They have had the exposure early on and they’ve dealt with keeping the ball in tight situations. So, when they go to places like Celtic Park, they are able to strut their stuff."

  14. Davidson 'proud' despite Pittodrie losspublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 17 August

    FT: Aberdeen 1-0 Queen's Park

Queen's Park head coach Callum Davidson told BBC Sportsound: "The lads were magnificent today. We've been guilty, when we play the bigger teams, of being too open. Today, we worked really hard.

"We had our own really good chances, opportunities to hurt Aberdeen. It was one of those games, we could have held out and gone to extra time but bodies get tired.

"If I get more performances like that, I'll be pretty pleased. I'm happy with how we're working. I'm disappointed today, but we move on.

"It was tough but overall, it's the first time we've made it into the knockout stages. Hopefully, next year we go further."

  15. 'So far, so good' for Thelinpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 17 August

    FT: Aberdeen 1-0 Queen's Park

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin tells BBC Scotland: "We needed some luck to go through. Their goalkeeper made good saves, you have to respect that and their fight and their belief.

"The fans stayed with us after the first half and pushed us to the winning goal. Sometimes you need that extra push when the opponent defends well."

On his 100% record so far, he added: "It's not been smooth. You have to find a way to win games. We still have things to improve.

"We need to keep trying and grow and be better all the time and have strong determination to manage the league and cup games. So far so good."

  16. 'You've got to take your chances'published at 18:37 British Summer Time 17 August

FT: Falkirk 2-0 Heart of Midlothian

Hearts head coach Steven Naismith tells BBC Sportsound: "Ultimately we're really disappointed, we're out the cup. The tale of the game is you've got to take your chances.

"We create four really good chances in the first half but you've got to take them. Cup football is defined by that. The second goal absolutely kills us in terms of any sort of momentum.

"There's no excuse. We ultimately need to just put 11 players on the park that are going to win us the game and if that's keeping the same team or keeping the majority even with our tight schedule then we'll need to do that. It probably clears that part up, that we maybe can't rotate as much as we would've liked."

  17. Dundee fans 'must be purring watching that'published at 18:37 British Summer Time 17 August

    FT: Dundee 6-1 Airdrieonians

Dundee boss Tony Docherty told BBC Sportsound: "I knew how tricky a game it was going to be. A really tough opponent. You seen that in the way they came out for the second half. But huge testament to my players. That’s us now scored 27 goals in seven games.

"We had to be good against the ball, then when we opened up we had to be brave. And I think you saw that in absolute spades. I couldn’t be more pleased for the players. But I’ve got a group in there that are angry. Angry that they did not keep a clean sheet. That just shows you the type of group I’ve got in there.

"If I’m a Dundee fan watching that there, I’m absolutely purring. To watch your team be so good out of possession and also clinical, brave and showing quality on the ball, it’s a good time to be a Dundee fan."

We'll turn attention back to Hampden shortly but let's get some more reaction from today's earlier games...

  19. Rangers on top but warnings signs therepublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 17 August

    HT Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Hampden Park

Rangers have looked strong in most departments, other than the decisive one. That said, it's St Johnstone who will feel they've come closest, not once, but twice.

Adama Sidibeh was so unlucky to see his effort crack off the post and that should serve as a warning to the home side.

Philippe Clement's side have created any number of really promising chances but they just can't get it right where it counts. Off target, wrong pass, it just won't go for them in front of Josh Rae's goal.

St Johnstone are living a charmed life at times but remain right in this.

  20. Jim McIntyre departs Arbroathpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 17 August

Jim McIntyre has left his role as Arboarth manager.

The former Ross County and Dundee boss was appointed during last season, replacing Dick Campbell, but failed to keep them in the Scottish Championship.

After their 3-0 home loss to Kelty Hearts this afternoon they currently sit bottom of League 1 with a sole point and only one win in their seven games so far this campaign.

The club posted a brief statement online to announce his departure: "Arbroath FC can this evening announce the departure of Jim McIntyre as manager."
