  2. HALF-TIME Rangers 0-0 St Johnstonepublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 17 August

Plenty of effort and intent from Rangers but in truth St Johnstone have had the most clear cut chances.

An intriguing one at the national stadium and an interesting 45 minutes to come.

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

Another Rangers effort as Rabbi Matondo's shot deflects over. It was travelling.

  4. CLOSE!published at 18:31 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

Mohamed Diomande lifts a cross into the St Johnstone box and Danilo does well to direct a header in the general direction of the goal but it bounces just wide.

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

Vaclav Cerny is in behind the St Johnstone defence again as he latches on to a long ball but the ball just will not fall for him as St Johnstone scramble out for a corner.

Josh Rae punches clear the corner and Saints mount an attack of their own. Matthew Smith puts an excellent ball in from the right and Adam Sidibeh volleys on to the outside of the right-hand post.

Big let off for the hosts.

Another big Rangers chance as Danilo finds Vaclav Cerny, who hurries his shot and blazes off target.

  8. 'Clement will be frustrated'published at 18:22 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

    Richard Foster
Former Rangers defender on BBC Radio Scotland

I think Philippe Clement will be frustrated. Rangers have had one good opportunity and some half chances, I think for the way they started the game you'd expect them to have had more chances.

The lack of goalmouth action is going to probably frustrate Clement.

  9. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

Another decent spell of possession from Rangers and Jefte bends a shot over the St Johnstone goal.

  10. 'Should be 1-0'published at 18:17 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

    Neil McCann
Former Rangers winger on BBC Radio Scotland

He's made amends Rae, because it's a it of a howler at first.

Danilo is just trying to clip it past him, it should be 1-0 Rangers, but also a really good stop in the end.

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

Mohamed Diomande tests Josh Rae from the edge of the box and Danilo latches on to the rebound only to be denied by the St Johnstone goalkeeper.

  12. Postpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 17 August

  13. Pressure building on St Johnstonepublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Hampden Park

Minute by minute it feels like Rangers are going to pierce this St Johnstone defence, despite Andre Raymond's glaring opportunity moments ago.

They are exposed wide on their right and while Rangers haven't had much direct on target, it feels like that avenue has to be closed off before they pay for it.

That left channel for Rangers is a problem for St Johnstone.

They may need to flatten out the midfield to stop Jefte from getting so much joy.

  17. Postpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 17 August

    Rangers 0-0 St Johnstone

Twenty minutes in and it's been a positive start for Rangers, without really troubling the St Johnstone defence.

Saints are clearing their lines but their forward players have a lot of ground to cover and are struggling to get into the game.

  18. Postpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 17 August

More pressing by Rangers and another effort off target by James Tavernier. He rushed that one and had better options.
