I like your thinking, anon. But no, just a Champions League title with Real Madrid in 2022, and a Europa League squad of the season individual award in 2019, while playing for Frankfurt for Luka Jovic.

Keo: Simon, Liverpool have been misfiring this season. Do you think it's due to players slow to come back from injuries? Or, they need an overhaul up front like they did for their midfield. Thanks.

    Simon stone

It feels like we are approaching the end of an era at Anfield, Keo. The spat between Jurgen Klopp and Mo Salah did not look good at all and suggested a breakdown in relations between the coach and players, given Salah obviously has friends in the dressing room.

The campaign as a whole has not ended the way anyone at Liverpool would have wanted and Klopp’s exit brings a fresh pair of eyes in Arne Slot. And, while one of the attractions of Slot is that he plays a similar style of football to Klopp, any new manager would want at least a couple of his own players.

Evolution rather than revolution is how I see it at Liverpool this summer.

  6. Haaland 'probably the difference' in title racepublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 29 April

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland said "it is good to be back" after he scored to help his side to victory against Nottingham Forest.

The Norwegian striker missed City's midweek success at Brighton in the league and the FA Cup semi-final win against Chelsea last week because of a muscle injury.

But when he calmly took the ball around a defender and slotted into the left corner nine minutes after coming on as a substitute at the City Ground on Sunday, nerves were settled and the 2-0 win was soon sealed after what had been an uncomfortable afternoon for last year's Treble winners.

Victory meant City returned to being one point behind Premier League leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.

City have been without their talisman forward for a number of games this term and Haaland has struggled at times to find the scoring consistency that in 2022-23 saw him break the record for the most Premier League goals scored in a season - with 36 in 35 appearances.

But could Haaland "be the difference" as City push for an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title?

Gary, in wet and windy Belfast: Simon, have teams caught on to the fact that Trent Alexander-Arnold is not the greatest defender, and can Liverpool and England afford to take a chance on him defensively?

    Simon stone

Sorry about the weather for a start Gary. It is actually dry in the north-west of England today, which is a rarity over the past few months.

I think we have known for a while Alexander-Arnold is not the most watertight when it comes to tracking runners or holding his position in transition. The question is whether his abilities on the ball, which are exceptional, balance that out.

I am still uncertain. He can clearly step into midfield as has become the trend in the Premier League. But would I pick him in midfield for England? I am not sure about that given the players we have there.

I would definitely have him in my squad for the Euros but he is not starting ahead of Kyle Walker. It is slightly different with Liverpool because you can construct a squad that covers his weaknesses.

Tony, Warrington: Hi Simon, what are your thoughts on Leicester potentially starting next season with a points deduction? Is it right to carry over punishments until a team returns to the Premier League? What if it had taken Leicester 30 years to go back up - would they have faced a points deduction in 2054?!

    Simon stone

Last point first Tony, I think if Leicester had not come back up, if guilt had been proven, the points would have been deducted by the EFL, who have their own investigation.

I have sympathy with the leagues here. A lot of people say this stuff should have been dealt with more quickly. But how? Clubs have to submit their accounts to the league by the end of December. Then they have to be assessed, charges brought forward if needed, then legal argument, then a hearing, then an appeal. This all takes time. It is naïve to think this can all be sorted in a matter of days.

Leicester argued the EFL did not have the legal right to assess their accounts for a period when they were a Premier League club – and they won. They delayed the case. That was their right. What ‘faster way’ is there?

Nick, Hexham: Simon, has Declan Rice made the difference to Arsenal in the title race compared to last year?

    Simon stone

I think so Nick. I have never made any secret of the fact I am a huge Declan Rice fan. He was clearly captaincy material from a young age at West Ham and I felt he would stop Arsenal’s performance levels dropping off the way they did last season. Yes, he conceded a penalty at Tottenham yesterday but that is one moment in one game.

Someone like Rice has the calm mentality to restore order when situations are going wrong. In the end, it may not be enough this season because Manchester City are a phenomenal team but Rice is a key element of Arsenal running them closer. That said, I would like to see him scoring more goals.

Thiago Silva to the Chelsea website: "Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year and it ended up being four years. Not just for me but for my family, too.

"My sons play for Chelsea so it’s a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family – literally because my sons are here. I hope they can continue their careers here at this victorious club that many players wish to be part of.

"I think in everything I did here over the four years, I always gave my all. But, unfortunately, everything has a start, a middle and an end. That doesn’t mean that this is a definitive end. I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return, albeit in another role here.

"But…it’s an indescribable love. I can only say thank you."
