1. Arsenal out of the WSL title racepublished at 08:36 British Summer Time 29 April

It won't be a Premier League-WSL double for Arsenal this season.

Jonas Eidevall's side had their title hopes ended by Manchester City's win over Bristol City, which left the Gunners eight points behind the WSL leaders with two games to play.

Arsenal had been held to a 1-1 draw with Everton earlier on Sunday.

The Gunners' Alessia Russo poked the ball home with 10 minutes of normal time remaining, the England striker pouncing on the rebound from a fine save from Courtney Brosnan.

But Everton levelled in the 95th minute through 16-year-old Issy Hobson who said scoring her late equaliser was "the best feeling ever".

After a long, hard season of struggle, Bristol City's increasingly inevitable exit from the Women's Super League was confirmed on Sunday.

Their 4-0 home defeat by Manchester City ensured an immediate return to the Championship for the Robins, who won the second tier last season.

Lauren Smith's side have lost all 10 of their home league games so far. They face Everton on the final day, aiming to avoid a whitewash at Ashton Gate in 2023-24.

Bristol City have never been outside the WSL bottom two all season, sinking to the very foot of the table at the start of 2024 and never resurfacing.

And by every statistical metric, it has been a horrible season for City. They are on course for the lowest points tally from a 22-game WSL season.

Whilst we hate losing to Arsenal, we need to not overreact (lots of people saying Ange is out of his depth). The same was said of Arteta in his first season - now look at them. There's been enough this season to say Spurs are heading in the right direction.

On Sunday, Manchester City beat Bristol City 4-0 to move six points clear at the Women's Super League summit.

The visitors toiled for the first hour until Mary Fowler broke the deadlock from distance, before the Australian finished a Lauren Hemp cross at the near post for her second.

Amy Rodgers then turned into her own net before Alex Greenwood headed in the league leaders' fourth with the last touch of the game.

Man City have equalled the WSL record of 14 successive victories and are six points above Chelsea at the top, albeit having played two games more.

  6. Four games, three points & one massive Old Firm derbypublished at 08:09 British Summer Time 29 April

Celtic and Rangers players battle for the ballImage source, Getty Images

Not since 2011 has there been such a tight Scottish Premiership title race.

The nature of the split means both clubs face the league's top teams in their final fixtures.

Next up for Celtic is the visit of a Hearts side who have defeated the leaders twice already this season - including a win in Glasgow in December.

Twenty-four hours later, Kilmarnock, who have won seven points against the Old Firm this campaign, go to Ibrox.

A midweek trip to Rugby Park, where Celtic have lost twice this term, on the penultimate matchday could prove to be quite the test for Rodgers' side, as could Rangers' journey to Tynecastle on the final day.

But before all that is a potential derby decider at Celtic Park, where the men from Ibrox will likely have to win for the first time in almost four years to have any chance of wrestling top spot off their rivals.

  7. Rangers keep pace with narrow inpublished at 08:04 British Summer Time 29 April

Cyriel Dessers thinks Rangers "are close to doing something special" after his winner at St Mirren avoided another potentially grievous blow to their Scottish Premiership title hopes.

Victory drew Philippe Clement's side level with Celtic at the top of the table before the reigning champions also won 2-1 at Dundee in Sunday's later kick-off.

But striker Dessers thinks Rangers "have everything in our own hands for the next five games" as they look to complete a domestic treble.

"We are close to doing something special and we have to be aware of that and just leave it all on the pitch," he told BBC Scotland.

"It’s going to be an exciting month with everything to play for. That’s what we deserve with the things we did in the last few months.

"Now it’s up to us to give ourselves what we deserve and what belongs to us."

Will the real Roberto de Zerbi step forward? Oh, he did. 2 points in the last 6 games. Slipped nicely into Graham Potter's shoes then took Brighton backwards. Brighton could do worse than let De Zerbi go to one of his suitors for a nice fee and then send a lovely 'miss you' card to Potter.

  12. Celtic maintain lead after beating Dundeepublished at 07:49 British Summer Time 29 April

    Andy Campbell
    BBC Scotland

Brendan Rodgers lauded James Forrest as one of the "fathers" of Celtic's success over the past decade after the veteran winger's double downed Dundee and maintained Celtic's three-point Scottish Premiership lead.

Forrest marked his return to the starting line-up with a stunning first-half volley from the edge of the box and low drive midway through the second period.

Dundee replied with Adam Idah deflecting an Antonio Portales shot past Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart but were unable to deny the visitors victory.

"He's one of the fathers of the great success that this club has had over the last decade," said Rodgers of 11-time league winner Forrest.

"Very humble, very understated but what he has, he's got immense quality."

  13. Arsenal leading the chargepublished at 07:44 British Summer Time 29 April

Bournemouth and Brighton were also in action on Sunday...

Enes Unal scored on his first Premier League start for Bournemouth as the Cherries beat below-par Brighton to reach their highest top-flight points total.

Marcos Senesi's 13th-minute header gave Andoni Iraola's side the lead, nodding in from three yards after the visitors failed to clear a corner.

Turkey striker Unal dragged wide in the first half, but scored his second goal since joining on loan from Getafe in January when he cleverly headed Dango Ouattara's cross into the far corner after the break.

The impressive Justin Kluivert sealed the win when he drove at the Brighton defence late on and drilled a left-footed strike past Bart Verbruggen for his third goal in three home games.

Brighton were lacklustre throughout and failed to create many meaningful chances - coming closest when Simon Adingra's effort was tipped over the bar by Mark Travers.

There was concern late on for Bournemouth though, with winger Antoine Semenyo carried off on a stretcher with a suspected knee injury.

The victory moves the Cherries to 48 points - two more than their previous best top-flight haul in 2016-17.

Yesterday's result at the City Ground was good news for Burnley, who closed the gap on Nottingham Forest to two points with their draw at Manchester United on Saturday.

Burnley entertain Forest on the final day of the season and as they have a much worse goal difference, the Clarets must be within two points to give themselves a chance of survival.

They cannot know whether Forest get any points back through their Profit and Sustainability case appeal - the result of which is due this week - and given they play Sheffield United at the weekend, they have a clear chance to get points.

But Dara O'Shea says belief in the Burnley camp is high after one defeat in eight games.

"We're not giving up, we are not backing down," said the Republic of Ireland interational.

"Only losing one in eight is massive for us. It’s our best run of the season and for it to come at the end, when it’s most important is great.

"I believe we can do it - and the lads do too. I just hope we haven’t left it too late."

Erling Haaland marked his return with a goal as Manchester City kept up the pressure on leaders Arsenal with victory over Nottingham Forest.

The Norwegian striker missed two games through injury but came off the bench in the 62nd minute at the City Ground.

He slotted into the left corner nine minutes later to wrap up the points and move City back to a point behind Premier League front-runners Arsenal.

City went ahead 32 minutes in as Josko Gvardiol scored with a powerful near-post header from Kevin de Bruyne's inswinging corner.

That came while Forest's Neco Williams was off the pitch receiving treatment for an injury, which subsequently forced his substitution.

Pep Guardiola's City have a game in hand over Arsenal but may still need to win all of their games between now and the end of the season to secure a record fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Arsenal overcame the hurdle of a north London derby and an anxious finale to maintain momentum in the Premier League title pursuit with a vital victory at Tottenham.

Mikel Arteta's side moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League, although second-placed Manchester City later reduced that deficit to one point with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest and also have a game in hand.

The Gunners' meeting with their bitter rivals was seen as arguably the most treacherous of their remaining fixtures, but they took ruthless advantage of Spurs' defensive flaws to establish a three-goal lead by half-time.

Arsenal were then thrown off course when a dreadful clearance by goalkeeper David Raya presented Cristian Romero with a goal after 64 minutes, the nerves really jangling when Heung-min Son scored from the spot three minutes from the end of normal time after Declan Rice fouled Ben Davies.
