"What they have done in the short space of time that [manager Unai] Emery has been there, is absolutely astonishing. I keep repeating it to myself that Aston Villa are a Champions League team - it's a dream."

As an Arsenal supporter, the notion that Spurs would have any influence as kingmaker, is hilarious, but how embarrassing is it to cheer when your club lose? Ange is going to walk, don't blame him.

  4. De Bruyne & Haaland combine yet againpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 15 May

    Tottenham 0-2 Man City

Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne has assisted Erling Haaland 12 times in the Premier League since the beginning of last season, at least four more times than any other player has for a team-mate in the competition.

The Belgium midfielder has now recorded 10+ assists in six different Premier League seasons, the joint-most times alongside Cesc Fabregas.

De Bruyne (112) also moved ahead of the Spaniard into outright second for most assists in the competition’s history, behind only Ryan Giggs (162).

Ange can bristle all he wants. Even with 'full' support, recent form against top opponents has been poor and fourth was gone. Bigger issues for him to focus on next year are player belief and away form.

On Manchester City's win: "It was a professional performance yet again. The players dug deep and have been exemplary.

"I don't often credit the goalkeepers, but I have to give it to them today."

On whether City have sealed the title: "I never say never. They are relentless. I was watching them in the warm-up - the concentration levels were up to it, the focus was incredible."

Ange digging out the fans is a disgrace, these are the same fans that have been singing his name despite a run of 3pts from the last 18 and abject performances since November that are mid/low table. And all that time refusing to change and sticking to 'his principles'. He should just leave, blaming fans for his inability to beat top teams. I was in the south stand last night and I didn't see one Spurs fan clapping or cheering City, no doubt there were a few in a crowd of 62,000 - are all other clubs fans perfect? I've had enough of Ange and his inflated ego that are not backed by his PL results - concentrate on sorting yourself out mate instead of the supporters who've backed you through some very poor months of football.

Tottenham are now guaranteed to finish outside the Premier League's top four for the fourth time in the last five seasons, after finishing in the Champions League spots in each of Mauricio Pochettino’s final four full campaigns in charge (2015-16 to 2018-19).

They finished last season in eighth place with 60 points. With one game remaining in Ange Postecoglou's first season as manager they are fifth with 63 points.

How many of Spurs' recent managers have criticised the mentality of the fans? Jose, Conte and now Ange all certainly have. Perhaps the fans should notice that trend and look at themselves when complaining about a lack of trophies. Because if you're cheering not qualifying for the CL and losing the prestige, money, and chance to sign better players, all because it spites a rival, are you really judging your team's success by the right metric?

  10. 'I think that is credit to Ange'published at 10:30 British Summer Time 15 May

    Tottenham 0-2 Man City

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Joel Beya, an Arsenal fan on BBC Radio 5 Live, joked: "I took my Spurs shirt off when Son missed that chance. If anyone had told me that Son would have missed a one-on-one, in the 85th or 86th minute, I wouldn't have believed you, especially the way they were playing through the course of the game. I was really surprised.

"I think that is credit to Ange [Postecoglou]. In his press conference he said the correct words, 'It only takes one Spurs player' and it did."

Steven McInerney a Manchester City fan from the Esteemed Kompany podcast, on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I trust Man City and I trusted them to win the game but I don't trust football not to do something silly like Spurs giving Arsenal the lead [in the table].

"They were playing that game really well and most of that game was really intense for the City fans. It was not a good performance and not the City that we have seen recently but we got the three points and we are now top of the league.

"I have to thank Son [Heung-min] for missing that chance."

Manchester City had won at Tottenham in the FA Cup earlier this season but in their five previous visits to Spurs' new stadium (including one Champions League game) they had lost on each occasion - without even scoring a goal.

Erling Haaland’s opener last night came from City's 79th shot there in the Premier League and was the Blues' first away league goal against Spurs since Riyad Mahrez scored at Wembley Stadium in October 2018.

Was a very strange atmosphere last night at Spurs. I can understand not wanting a rival to succeed but Spurs had Champions League on the line last night so everything to play for themselves. City looked flat and tired and were there for the taking. It's no surprise that Ange was so upset. I wonder if he now truly realises the scope of the task at Spurs.

That was some game, I really enjoyed it. When that goal went in right at the end, I thought 'this is how to win a title'. Special times.

It is just an amazing club to be around, the levels of what everybody expects from each other, and it's humble as well.

It’s nonsense the media highlighting a handful of Spurs fans apparently wanting to lose last night. The chanting was simply a comic way of having a dig at Arsenal and please name me one other club who wouldn’t do the same with their local rivals?

  16. The foundations are fragile - Postecogloupublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 15 May

    Tottenham 0-2 Man City

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou said the foundations are "really fragile" at the club after Tuesday's defeat by Manchester City ended their hopes of Champions League football.

Spurs could have handed north London rivals Arsenal an advantage over City in the Premier League title race had they taken points off the visitors.

Postecoglou's side needed to beat City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to keep hopes of a top-four finish alive, but lost 2-0.

"The foundations are really fragile," the Australian said. "The last 48 hours have shown me that.

"It's inside the club, outside the club. Outside, inside - everywhere. It's been an interesting exercise. It's just my observations, mate."

Dan, Kent: In response to 09:17 Rob, that's absolute rubbish. I was watching on TV and heard anti-Arsenal chanting in the first 5mins. Unless you're suggesting the media injected those chants over the coverage? In which case, what size would you like your tin hat and flat earther t-shirt?

It's a massive result for Man City. I think the real Premier League trophy will be sat outside Manchester and I think the replica will be somewhere near the Emirates.

City were professional, they weren't at their glittering best, but they have been there and got a job done.

Manchester City's 0-0 draw with Arsenal in March saw Erling Haaland go a third straight game without scoring for City.

The Norway striker has since scored nine in eight games to reach 38 in all competitions and set himself on course to win a second straight Premier League Golden Boot trophy.

Not bad considering he's apparently had a poor season.
