Intrigued by those saying Konate needs ‘protection’. He’s a big boy at 26, with 88 appearances at Liverpool to his name - surely he should be able to hold his own, no?

  3. 'We dominated and deserved to win'published at 17:29 BST

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "To go top of the table after some big fixtures over the last week and some injuries, we got some today but we were able to respond.

"We dominated and fully deserved to win this. We had some big, big chances we didn't put away.

"The players who came on contributed to maintaining the standards. Let's look forward to the international break."

On Martin Odegaard injury: "So unlucky again. He went knee to knee and felt straight away something was not right. Let's assess him and see how bad the injury is. He has been very, very unlucky."

On Bukayo Saka and his 200th PL appearance for Arsenal: "It has been an incredible journey together. The way he has done it is special. He is loved by everybody and the numbers he is creating are incredible at his age - so much more to come from him."

  4. 'We have to start somewhere'published at 17:28 BST

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "That was not a good performance. We knew it was going to be tough, we were facing a good team. In moments we were organised and compact we made it tough for Arsenal. We didn't quite have the chance to have a breather and get forward, but no discussion about the result.

"We have to start somewhere and our priority is that we can be better each game, have more togetherness, more unity, more desire - a lot of things.

"In the Everton game we had shots, we had more of the ball and were able to keep it better. Today the movements going forward were not really there. We need better mobility to find the gaps.

"It's hard on me yes but it is much harder on the players. There are changes with philosophy etcetera and they are required to adapt. What is important now is having the break to settle down, ignore the noise and move forward together with training sessions and meetings."

Chelsea won’t win the league if they keep overhauling their squad every season. I think they really miss Jackson’s consistent pressing and movement up front. I agreed with selling Madueke, but Jackson could’ve been more effective on the left, where Gittens seems to be struggling.

  6. 'Odegaard injury doesn't look positive'published at 17:26 BST

    Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on the victory: "Very happy. We knew it would be a tough match. Three games in seven days and two very intense games before this. Very happy."

On learning from previous defeats by West Ham: "When we played Newcastle we said we had to learn from the past and the scars we had in that stadium. Today as well we lost the previous two at the Emirates (against West Ham) but we won today and fully deserved it."

On Odegaard's injury: "With Martin it was a clash knee to knee. It's not looking very positive at the moment."

On Rice's substitution: "With Declan he was struggling with back pain and he asked me to come off. Lett's see what the doctor says now and what is best for him."

On Saka scoring on his 200th appearance: "It's exceptional what he's doing at his age. The impact he has on those matches, it's very difficult to do I'm very happy for him. He's super consistent and willing to learn constantly. He finds ways to find goals. He will grow and become more mature. Hopefully he'll keep impacting the team."

  7. 'Arteta will bring us success'published at 17:26 BST

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

    Arsenal

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, speaking to BBC Match of the Day, on making 200th Premier League appearance for the club: "It is a beautiful feeling. A big achievement as well so I am very proud.

"It has been a really successful week for us as a team with three games and three wins. We go into the international break in a good place in the Premier League and Champions League.

"It has been a strong start to the season. We've had some tough games, particularly away. We are in a strong place in the Premier League and looking forward to coming back and pushing on.

"Mikel [Arteta] has very much improved my game as a lot. I am very grateful to have him as my coach. He will bring this club success and looking forward to when that day comes.

  8. 'We're 100% behind the gaffer'published at 17:25 BST

    FT: Man Utd 2-0 Sunderland

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount live on Final Score: "It was an exciting game, we enjoyed it. The first-half performance, up 2-0, really helped us. The second half we wanted to push on for more but the result was the most important thing. Happy with three points."

On goal: "Very happy - I haven't seen it back. The most important thing is three points, tough last couple of results. Very excited for the next game now and also [Benjamin] Sesko getting his goal and his performance today was very good so buzzing for him and for Senne [Lammens] too.

"You can see in the way the first half went we were sharp at the beginning, we started the game quick. At home if we start well we can take control and score goals. In the second half it gets a bit loose and that's something we'll work on. We're 100% behind the gaffer. We've had some results that hurt us - the team, the staff and the fans - but that was important today."

Is this start of building something? "It needs to be - we thought after Chelsea it would be the start of something and then we go to Brentford and have a disappointing result. It starts today and we'll be working hard over the break. We want to get back-to-back wins, then three in a row and push on for the top four."

On Lammens: "It's important in the Premier League keeping clean sheets, you have chances to score and then to keep the clean sheet in the second half was so important. He was solid, when we were under pressure, the option was Ben [Sesko] and we worked off that. Buzzing for him, everyone was around him today, it can be tough making your first start we wat to be together and I felt that today so we keep moving forward."

  10. 'International break will be good for us'published at 17:23 BST

    Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo: "Honestly all the game we were under pressure. Arsenal were on top of us. We didn't have the chance to control or go forward.

"We defend well somethings but mistakes in position. We knew it would be tough. But the boys worked hard and kept fighting. We have to start somewhere and that was the priority, how we compete."

On the positives he saw: "For the boys it's been hard these couple of weeks. Discipline, organisation, resilience. It's basics in football. The attitude was there."

On the international break coming at the right time: "We have a lot of things (to work on) but the break will be good for all of us, especially the players. To rest their heads. It's a moment to settle down and then to start working."

  11. 'The players are responding'published at 17:22 BST

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Nuno Espírito Santo, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We've had two tough games away from home against very good teams.

"Now is the moment to analyse but with all the changes that has been happening I feel the players are responding and trying and that pleases me the most.

"The international break will be important for all of us especially for the players to be calm, there's been many changes and many noises around us. This is our priority - that we know each other as a group because it is basically our unity and fight for each other [that we need]."

  12. 'It's a dream come true'published at 17:21 BST

    FT: Man Utd 2-0 Sunderland

    Manchester United

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko speaking to TNT Sports: "This [scoring at Old Trafford] has been the moment I've dreamed about as a kid, because the atmosphere here is unbelievable. Not just after the goal, but after every tackle as well. It's a dream come true, I'm happy we won.

"There are some differences [between the Premier League and Bundesliga], the guys are stronger, but I'm getting use to it more and more every training, getting better every single game."

    On playing under pressure:

"I work for that, if you have pressure it means you are doing something good. I don't' take pressure as something negative.

"It's important for us to win, to get confidence for the next game, especially as we go into the break. When we come back we will be ready to go into the next game."

Chelsea have given academy defender Landon Emenalo, 17, a spot on the bench as they welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge.

Emenalo is the son of former Chelsea technical director, Michael, and is making a Premier League squad for the first time in his career.

Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo and Levi Colwill are all out injured, with Trevoh Chalobah suspended after being given a red card against Brighton last time out.

If we are being honest with ourselves we have not seen one convincing performance from Liverpool, from the start of the season until now, where it is a full 90 minutes.

They have been fortunate to get away with it and we say "that's what champions do", but they have now had back-to-back losses.

  15. 'Liverpool missing experience and protection for Konate'published at 17:18 BST

    Chelsea v Liverpool (17:30 BST)

    Steph Houghton
Former Manchester City and England captain on Football Focus

Liverpool have been a little bit more transitional than they were last season, and when you bring in so many new players like Kerkez and Frimpong, you need to give them time to settle in.

Last season their basis was a solid back four with Alexander-Arnold and Robertson either side at full-back. They do miss that bit of experience and protection for Konate at the moment.

  16. 'Mamardashvili is a real talent'published at 17:17 BST

    Chelsea v Liverpool (17:30 BST)

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham goalkeeper BBC Radio 5 Live Premier League kick-off

On how much Liverpool will miss Alisson and Mamardashvili taking his place:

Liverpool will always miss Alisson. He is one of, if not the best in the world at what he does.

But Liverpool signed Mamardashvili and released Kelleher, and we know the potential that was there with him, he was always seen as the natural successor to Alisson. But in Mamardashvili they've got a real talent.

  17. 'On another occasion Sunderland finish the first half chance'published at 17:16 BST

    FT: Man Utd 2-0 Sunderland

    Steph Houghton
Former Manchester City and England captain on Final Score

United played really well today, they dominated the game, but on another occasion Sunderland finish that chance in the first half.

They had another chance towards the end of the second half as well that could have changed the game and put the pressure on.

As a Sunderland fan this is just a journey we're going on and I'm happy with the start that we've had.

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

    Chris Wise
BBC Final Score reporter at Emirates Stadium

Say it quietly, but this does feel like a different Arsenal this season. The squad depth is strong, and they had West Ham right where they wanted them this afternoon.

I’ve seen games here in recent seasons where there has been a sense of nerves rippling around but not a semblance of that today. That’s significant when you consider what was on the line for Arsenal today.

They’ve sauntered up to the summit of the Premier League table.

  20. 'We have to take the positives'published at 17:13 BST

    Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville after his side's defeat by Arsenal: "I think we did quite good in first half. We slowed them down sometimes but a team like this it's always difficult. I think in the second half they went over us and it was difficult to slow them down sometimes. We have to take the positives and go again after the break. On what Nuno told his players: "He said like we have to take the positives. We knew it would be difficult and we have work to do after the international break.

On his role: "Obviously we knew we wouldn't have the ball a lot so for me personally when we had the ball I try to give the team some space up and (create) some magic. I'm not so happy with myself today. I have to work on some things. On working under Nuno: "I think we have a lot in us especially with this coach. He wants us to attack a lot so that's good for me as an attacker."
