  4. Vipotnik blow for Swanseapublished at 14:57 GMT 1 November

    Gareth Vincent
    BBC Sport Wales

Zan Vipotnik is at The Valley for Swansea's game against Charlton Athletic this afternoon, but the bad news for the Welsh club is that their leading scorer will not be getting changed out of his tracksuit.

Swansea travelled on Thursday for this game with Vipotnik on board and expecting to be involved against the Addicks.

However, Swansea's eight-goal leading scorer is believed to have picked up an injury in training on Friday, meaning Adam Idah starts for only the second time in the league following his move from Celtic two months ago.

Swansea fans, meanwhile, are left anxiously waiting for news of the extent of Vipotnik's problem. We will hear more from Alan Sheehan on that later.

Good afternoon from a wet and windy St Mary's Stadium where Southampton have only won once in the league so far this season.

Will Still's side are looking for a third league win of the season as they welcome a Preston side that have only lost three times all campaign.

The Lilywhites are currently eighth in the Championship and just two points off the play-off positions.

Saints fans started to vent frustration at the manager and board in their last defeat at Blackburn, you feel things could turn ugly today if they don't start to turn things around.

  6. 'We can't just say we want to win' - Daviespublished at 14:53 GMT 1 November

    Birmingham v Portsmouth (15:00 GMT)

    Media caption,

The Blues boss looks ahead to this weekend's game with Portsmouth.

Many touted Birmingham City as favourites for a promotion-contending season upon their re-entry to the Championship - but so far, they haven't made much of an impression.

They sit firmly in the midtable, in 15th place, six points clear of the bottom three but four off the top six.

Not only that but their last appearance in front of the St Andrew's crowd gave them their first taste of defeat in 29 home matches, with Hull City prevailing to spoil the party and prove that Blues can indeed be challenged on their own soil.

Today, they return to home ground and host Portsmouth, a side who are currently three places below them and on a three-match winless streak.

"It's an important week for our season," Davies told BBC Radio WM. "These next four matches, three are at home, we've got an opportunity to climb the table.

"We're all desperate for more wins, that's obvious, but as I've said to the players: it's very important we focus on our performance.

"We can't just say we want to win, we've got to play as well as we can, and they'll eventually come more consistently.

"It's two home games we feel we've got a good chance in. We've got to try and take maximum points if we can."

  7. Blades look to get recovery mission back on trackpublished at 14:51 GMT 1 November

Sheff Utd v Derby (15:00 GMT)

Sheffield United's bid to recover from their wretched start to the season was halted last time out when they chucked away a two-goal lead at Preston to fall to a ninth defeat of the season.

They'll hope to get back on the horse today and welcome a Derby side who have lost each of their past four visits to Bramall Lane.

Back-to-back wins for John Eustace's men last week saw them climb away from trouble at the bottom and another victory today would have them looking up.

  8. Addicks welcome Swans to Valley fortresspublished at 14:51 GMT 1 November

    Charlton v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

There can't be many more daunting away trips in the Football League right now than a visit to Charlton.

The Addicks have lost just one of their past 20 home games in the league having taken to life back in the second tier like a duck to water.

Today's visitors Swansea have been the very model of inconsistency so far this campaign.

The Welsh side have won four, drawn four and lost four so far.

  9. Sinning Saints to stay silentpublished at 14:50 GMT 1 November

    Southampton v Preston (15:00 GMT)

Southampton boss Will StillImage source, Shuttershock

All mouth and no trousers - that's what my Dad used to say about people who talked a lot but failed to back it up with actions.

It's basically what Southampton boss Will Still has accused the club of this week and telling everyone it's time to "shut up and get on with it".

He's kind of right isn't he? At some point the Saints have to stop talking and start winning - they are on a run of just one win in 11 league matches under Still and four victories in 47 games since they won promotion to the Premier League in May 2024.

"As a club we need to stand up, fight back and show what this club is about and not moan about everything and find excuses for why things aren't going right," Still told BBC Radio Solent.

    Will that fightback start today?

Well, they might be starting in seventh place but Preston's away form is hardly much to write home about - one win in 12 road trips with seven defeats to be precise.

Surely a chance for Southampton to be wearing the trousers rather than talking about them come five o'clock?

  10. Something to give at Loftus Road?published at 14:48 GMT 1 November

    QPR v Ipswich (15:00 GMT)

    Media caption,

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna addressess speculation linking him with the job at Celtic.

A supporter of either side pitching up at Loftus Road today is surely doing so more in hope than expectation.

QPR have won just two of their past 11 league games at home while Ipswich are winless in eight on the road since a Premier League victory at Bournemouth back in April.

The Suffolk side have arrived back in the Championship with a bump although that hasn't stopped speculation this week linking boss Kieran McKenna with the head coach role at Celtic.

"We're in a really important season and a really important part of the season with three big games in the week, starting with QPR, anything outside of that hasn't touched my radar," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.

Most Town fans would be happy for him to concentrate on trying to get their stop-start season into some sort of forward motion rather than having to deal with more newspaper tittle-tattle.

As for QPR, given they are only one point short of the play-offs before the start of play today, their indifferent home form comes as a surprise although they have won six of their past seven against Ipswich in West London.

  11. The Gary Rowett derby (part 3)published at 14:46 GMT 1 November

Oxford United v Millwall (15:00 GMT)

Oxford manager Gary Rowett applauding supportersImage source, Shuttershock

Such is the range of Championship clubs managed by Gary Rowett he can't help but trip over one of his previous employers.

This is episode three of an eight-part thriller with a win over Derby and a defeat by Birmingham already in the books followed by today's meeting with Millwall and Tuesday's visit of Stoke.

For the U's head coach though it is just about getting points on the board, no matter who the opposition might be.

Two wins from their past three outings have given them some breathing space to the drop zone but a lack of consistency is liable to keep them at the wrong end of the table.

Meanwhile, Millwall ride into town looking to make it five league wins on the bounce for the first time since the end of the 2023/24 season with the possibility of finding themselves in second place by the close of play.

This is all done on a modest budget by Championship standards with boss Alex Neil not expecting a sudden windfall to spend in January.

"I don't have any views of trying to strengthen. The simple fact is that I work within the constraints of what the club is and where we are," he told BBC Radio London.

Where they are right now is the envy of many...

  12. Stoke still seeking 'top level' as they host Robinspublished at 14:42 GMT 1 November

Stoke v Bristol City (15:00 GMT)

    Media caption,

Stoke boss Mark Robins speaks ahead of the visit of Bristol City

Stoke's start to this season has been a remarkable turnaround.

From battling relegation in April to contending with the very best the league has to offer in November, boss Mark Robins has seen his side transform into the joint-best defensive side in the league.

Today's task will be tough. Visitors Bristol City have backed up a promotion-contending season with another fine start to the league, losing just two games.

The Robins are the joint-second highest scorers in the Championship so far this season but will their attacking prowess overcome the Potters ever-improving back-line?

"We are trying to improve all the time," Robins told BBC Radio Stoke.

"If we continue in the same vein, then we will improve and will keep getting better and close to the goal - the ultimate goal of being at the top of the division at the end of the season rather than talking about it after 12 games.

"While no-one is at their top, top level yet, there is scope for it to happen and for people to improve."

  13. Can Boro capitalise on Cov slip up?published at 14:39 GMT 1 November

    Watford v Middlesbrough (15:00 GMT)

Coventry's defeat at Wrexham on Friday has opened the door for Middlesbrough to go level on points with the Sky Blues at the top of the table.

Boro had to settle for a point themselves when they hosted the Red Dragons last time out and their recent record at Vicarage Road is... Not great.

The Teessiders have won just two of 12 visits here this century and are looking to avoid losing away to the Hornets for the third season running.

Meanwhile, Javi Gracia's Watford are the only side in the second tier not to have kept a clean sheet so far this season.

That was the first 0-0 draw in a match between these two sides since September 1974.

West Brom had the better of it but they didn't do enough for the three points and they've now won just one of their past five.

  16. 'Nowhere near good enough'published at 14:32 GMT 1 November

    FT: Leicester 0-2 Blackburn

    Matt Piper
Former Foxes winger on BBC Radio Leicester

The big difference between these two sides is not where they are in the table, it's the fight when they put on the shirt.

I don't know what goes through these players' heads. I don't know if they're too entitled or if they expect to roll over Blackburn.

That was nowhere near the level of performance I expect from this team.

  17. Canaries grounded, Tigers roaringpublished at 14:31 GMT 1 November

    FT: Norwich 0-2 Hull City

The Norwich fans who remained at Carrow Road at full-time directed their displeasure mainly towards sporting director Ben Knapper.

    What now Norwich fans?

As for Hull City, they are now in the top six, albeit ahead of the 15:00 GMT games but can the Tigers finish in the play-off spots?

The final whistle is followed by boos from the Albion faithful.

For Albion, their woes in front of goals continues. The day after Halloween and it's been a lifeless performance. It's just been a bit dull.

  19. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:24 GMT 1 November

    West Brom 0-0 Sheff Wed

Administration-hit bottom side Sheffield Wednesday pick up a point to move to minus five for the season.

West Brom's good start to the campaign is looking like it is fizzling out as boos ring out from a large chunk of the home support who have stuck around.

I'm not going to sugar-coat it, that was NOT an entertaining football match.

    Norwich 0-2 Hull City

Joe Gelhardt runs away after scoring for Hull CityImage source, getty ima

    Disaster for Norwich.

    Brilliant for Hull City.

Second-half goals from Joe Gelhardt and Darko Gyabi send the visitors into the top six and make it half a dozen games unbeaten.

But Norwich will rue not making more of their first-half dominance with Jeffrey Schlupp hitting the bar and Josh Sargent, Shane Duffy and Ruairi McConville all missing clear cut opportunities.

There were calls for Norwich head coach Liam Manning and sporting director Ben Knapper to go during and after the game.

Six straight home defeats to start a league season for the Canaries as well.

They head to Sheffield Wednesday in midweek and, but for the Owls' points deduction, they could have been travelling there bottom of the Championship.

Hull happily await their trip to Derby.
