    Scheffler -5, Hatton -4 (7)

Over to Scottie Scheffler who could really do with taking advantage at the par-five eighth.

He's onto the green but has undercooked his approach. A birdie opportunity yes, but not a likely one.

  2. Postpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 12 April

    McIlroy -11, Conners -5 (6)

What's Rory McIlroy's plan from deep in the trees down the seventh?

For the rest of us, pitch out, lay up and take your medicine.

But he's feeling it so takes aim over the top.

It'll come to a halt just behind the green and to the left. Terrific recovery.

  3. Postpublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 12 April

    Rose -7, DeChambeau -8 (5)

Both men come up well short of the flag on the sixth, in similar positions to where Rory McIlroy made par from earlier.

Justin Rose is definitely not a happy bunny here, having a word with a patron or cameraman or someone after his shot, presumably for making a noise during his swing.

  4. Postpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 12 April

    McCarty -5 Lowry -7 (7)

Shane Lowry's turn to show his skills from the sand, as he's not got much room to work with when stuck in the front trap at the seventh, but he blasts it out and leaves just a tiddler to clean up.

  5. 'DeChambeau was very unlucky'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 12 April

    Rose -7, DeChambeau -8 (5)

    Trish Johnson
Eight-time member of the Team Europe Solheim Cup team on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

DeChambeau was very unlucky not to hole that bunker shot, because that was exquisite.

I think he is very under-rated, short-game wise.

  6. Postpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 12 April

    McIlroy- 11, Conners -5 (6)

    Don't run at Augusta!

The patrons are committing a cardinal sin around here as they race after Rory McIlroy's ball from his first miscued tee shot of the day.

    He's hit that way right.

If Rory manages to shoot a three from here...!

  7. Pin shot!published at 20:47 British Summer Time 12 April

    Rose -7, DeChambeau -8 (5)

    Bryson DeChambeauImage source, Getty Images

Bryson DeChambeau is brilliant from the sand, and shows it again by almost holing his effort from the bunker on the fifth, with the small hitting the foot of the flag and just nestling alongside the hole.

It could have whistled a few feet past, but it also could have dropped in, as DeChambeau saves his par again and clings on to the streaking Rory McIlroy.

  8. Scheffler makes bogey at sevenpublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 12 April

    Scheffler -5, Hatton -4 (7)

Not so lucky for Scottie Scheffler up ahead at seven as he cannot save par after bunker problems.

A bit erratic at the moment from the world number one - and he slips a further shot behind Rory McIlroy.

  9. Brilliant par save from McIlroypublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 12 April

    McIlroy -11, Conners -5 (6)

    Never in doubt.

    Nerveless putt from Rory McIlroy.

He has started his round with six threes - the first player ever to do that at Augusta National.

  10. Postpublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 12 April

    McIlroy -11, Conners -6 (5)

A chink in the armour of Rory McIlroy as he takes aim for 48 feet with his putter.

Maybe the adrenaline is pumping a bit too much as he gives it plenty, only to watch it run eight feet past.

    Tricky return for par.

  11. Postpublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 12 April

    McIlroy -11, Conners -6 (5)

Perhaps a conservative play off the sixth tee for Rory McIlroy as he takes eight iron into this par three.

It shows in the distance he gets as his ball lands way short of the pin - but then it is on the green and very safe.

He'll take that over partner Corey Conners, who has emulated Scottie Scheffler and flown the back of the putting surface.

  12. Birdie puts Lowry thirdpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 12 April

    McCarty -5 Lowry -7 (6)

Shane Lowry taps in the birdie on six thanks to that stripe show off the tee, and he joins Justin Rose in third place now and playing beautifully.

  13. Bogey for Rosepublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 12 April

    Rose -7, DeChambeau -8 (4)

    Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

Uh oh! Big mistake from Justin Rose as he rolls a lag putt nicely to three feet, but then goes and misses it!

He can't quite believe it as that putter has been red hot for two days now, but it seems to have cooled off alarmingly today as Rose is going in reverse.

  14. 'Trying so hard not to smile'published at 20:35 British Summer Time 12 April

    McIlroy -11, Connors -6 (5)

    Trish Johnson
Eight-time member of the Team Europe Solheim Cup team on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

McIlroy is trying so hard not to smile.

This must be so difficult because he is enjoying it so much - but there is a steeliness, at the moment.

  15. Postpublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 12 April

    McIlroy -11, Conners -6 (5)

An hour ago, Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners teed off together at six under par.

The Canadian is now five shots behind his playing partner and is at level par for his round.

Have you ever seen anything like this?

  16. Postpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 12 April

    McCarty -5 Lowry -6 (5)

Brilliant tee shot from Shane Lowry at the sixth, a par three, that he's conjured up as he's ended up only about four feet away from the flag.

    Big birdie chance coming up.

  17. Postpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 12 April

    Rose -8, DeChambeau -8 (3)

Bryson DeChambeau finds himself in the bunker on the fourth or "in the pit" as my daughter calls it - but he makes a great escape from the pit and has a chance to save par.

  18. Postpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 12 April

I didn't have time to publish that stat from Stephen before McIlroy got yet another shot on the field.

    Slow down Rory!

  19. McIlroy magicpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 12 April

    McIlroy -11 (5)

    Stephen Watson
BBC Sport Northern Ireland at Augusta National

Rory McIlroy is the first player to begin a weekend round at the Masters with birdie-eagle-birdie since Mark O'Meara in the final round in 2001.

  20. Another birdie for McIlroy!published at 20:31 British Summer Time 12 April

    Is this happening?

Oh my goodness Rory McIlroy - what a terrific putt.

    He's three in the lead!
