Too keen from Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay at 17 as they fly the green.

Coming back though, Xander putts it close and Cantlay is millimetres away.

    Trouble-free pars.

Not so simple for Tiger Woods sadly as a 10-footer for par passes him by.

    Morikawa +1 (16)

Another monster putt is holed by Collin Morikawa, this one from about 40 feet on the 16th, and he's in red figures for his second round.

  3. Distance birdie for Schefflerpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -2, Spieth +3, Young +3 (14)

No issues with Scottie Scheffler's putting there!

He gives it some juice from 35 feet and gets only a second birdie of his round.

Suddenly he's in the rear view mirror of Shane Lowry and company ahead of him.

    Lowry -5 (15)

Shane Lowry once again finds himself in some long grass off the tee, but he'll be more than happy with his second shot from the rough, which nestles towards the back of the green.

    Two putts - par.

  5. Birdie for Brown on 10published at 13:56 British Summer Time 19 July

    Brown -5 (10)

Another superb putt by Dan Brown, who doesn't seem to be having any problems dealing with the pressure of being near the top of the leaderboard at The Open, and he's back into a share of the lead.

    Scheffler -1, Spieth +3, Young +3 (13)

The projected cut line is currently at +4.

That might be in the minds of Jordan Spieth and Cameron Young down the stretch.

  7. Back-to-back bogeyspublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 19 July

    Thomas -1 (3)

Justin Thomas is stuck in reverse sadly as he records a second straight bogey on the third.

This one comes after finding one of these tricky fairway bunkers which resulted in him just splashing it out onto the fairway - watch Ken Brown explain why these traps are so tough.

    Rose -3 (4)

Hello… Justin Rose goes to three under. Smashing approach and bold putt on the par-five fourth. He’s on the move.

He’s nearly as pleased as the wee girl who was handed his ball as a souvenir as the Englishman strode to the next tee.

  9. Postpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1, Woods +13 (16)

First to go is Xander Schauffele with 20 feet for birdie. Just missed.

It's a similar distance for Patrick Cantlay's birdie but it grazes the edge.

And it's nice to see Tiger Woods' effort drop in. No further damage to his card.

  10. Postpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1, Woods +13 (15)

Some relief is needed for Tiger Woods' ball after it clunks up against the 16th hole grandstand.

He's not too far away from the hole but it keeps trundling and he'll have 14 feet for par.

  11. Postpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth +3, Young +3 (13)

Ten feet proves too much for Scottie Scheffler in the end but again it's a par that he has made look straightforward.

Jordan Spieth never makes things look straightforward but a fine scramble out of the rough gets him to par too.

  12. Big par save by Lowrypublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -5 (14)

That'll make Shane Lowry feel a lot better about life.

He gets up and down in two from the back of the green on the par-three 14th, including a fine par putt from about eight feet, and retains his one-shot lead.

  13. Postpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth +3, Young +3 (12)

Scottie Scheffler is bent almost double as he weighs up his second shot out of the thick rough on the 13th.

He's got some magic in his hands though, clipping that out beautifully and spinning in to within 10 feet.

Birdie opportunity for the world number one.

  14. Postpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 19 July

    Morikawa +2 (15)

Lovely stuff from Collin Morikawa, who holes from about 25 feet to birdie the 15th hole and he's back to where he started the day on two over par.

  15. Bogey for Brownpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 19 July

    Brown -4 (9)

A dropped shot for Dan Brown on the ninth means Shane Lowry is back in the lead on his own.

Brown got a helpful bounce back onto the fairway from his tee shot, but leaked his approach left and couldnt get up and down in two from the longer grass.

Two bogeys and seven pars on his front nine, as he reaches the turn in a two-over-par 38.

  16. Flawless 68 from Daypublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 19 July

    Day -1 (68)

Australian Jason Day has matched the best round of the day so far with a three-under 68 dipping him under par for the tournament.

It's a flawless, bogey-free round for Day, which is a lot more like it for the 2015 US PGA champion and former world number one.

  17. Postpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1, Woods +13 (15)

Tiger Woods goes with a low cutter off the tee at 16. It hits the ground and rolls, and rolls, and rolls... straight into the burn that crosses this fairway.

    Another tough break.

  18. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose (-2) 3

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland at Royal Troon

Justin Rose gets his first look at a birdie… but his putt slips past. Still, a third par in his opening three. Steady. And he’s right in the conversation.

  19. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -5 (13)

The birdie chance goes begging for Shane Lowry. Another par, still sharing the lead with Dan Brown.

  20. Postpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 19 July

    Morikawa +3 (14)

We haven't mentioned Collin Morikawa in a while... he's parred holes 12, 13 and 14.

Barring something silly in the final four holes, he should be around for the weekend.
