  1. Postpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1, Woods +13 (15)

A trio of pars at the 15th as Woods, Cantlay and Schauffele match each other with close birdie attempts.

The 16th will provide probably the best opportunity on the back nine to pick up a shot.

  2. Noren heading backwardspublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 19 July

    Noren -1 (6)

Two bogeys in three holes for Alex Noren and they're both on the par fives and both because of poor approach play.

After missing the green long last time he's found the greenside bunker short this time and that costs him another six. Pros hate bogeying par fives and the Swede has now do it twice!

  3. Postpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -5 (12)

Shane Lowry sends a wedge to within 15 feet of the hole on 13 - another birdie opportunity...

  4. Burmester in positionpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 19 July

    Burmester -2 (69)

A par-par finish for Dean Burmester that gives him a round of 69 and elevates him 15 places up the leaderboard from where he started, and at two under he's a really nice position for the weekend.

  5. Postpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth +3, Young +3 (12)

Nerveless putting from Scottie Scheffler at the 12th pockets a seventh straight par.

    He's not going anywhere.

Jordan Spieth went backwards on the previous hole but stays afloat here with a similar par.

  6. Bogey for JTpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 19 July

    Thomas -2 (2)

Justin Thomas rescued par on the first, but he can't on the second as he misses the green in the wrong spot and has no chance of getting it close with his chip.

It's actually a lovely long putt almost from Prestwick, but it just doesn't break at the death and stays up.

  7. Postpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1, Woods +12 (14)

Picture perfect drives from Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay down the middle of the fairway but it's Tiger Woods that gets his shot in closest.

And from the rough out right as well.

  8. Ken on the coursepublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 19 July

If you've just seen Xander Schauffele's booming drive bounce and run all of 384 yards down the fairway and wondered how he's done that - well you're in luck, because our Ken can explain all..

  9. Troon playing easier today?published at 13:24 British Summer Time 19 July

    Andy Stevenson
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

22 of the first 27 players to finish their second rounds have scored better than yesterday.

  10. 'It was just one bad shot and an unlucky break'published at 13:24 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -5 (12)

    Catriona Matthew
Captain of Team Europe at the 2019 & 2021 Solheim Cup

I think hole 12 really settled Lowry down, I think his caddy has got to be reminding him he’s still five under, he’s still tied for the lead and we’re only halfway through the second round.

I think he’s got to remember where he is. He’s playing well. It was just one bad shot and an unlucky break.

  11. Postpublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth +3, Young +3 (11)

Some serious gorse bushes flank the 12th fairway and Scottie Scheffler is behind a big clump of them as he weighs up his second shot.

Clunk out as far as he can and make sure he gets back in play is the order of things for the world number one.

He's on to the fairway and about 70 yards from the pin.

  12. Postpublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 19 July

    Brown -5 (8), Lowry -5 (12)

Pars for the two leaders at their most recent holes.

Shane Lowry is temporarily disturbed by a plane flying overhead, but lags his putt close for a four on the 12th.

At the Postage Stamp, Dan Brown takes two putts from long distance to keep himself on five under.

  13. Johnson shunts up leaderboard with eaglepublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 19 July

    D Johnson +1 (16)

Eagles have been very few and far between at Royal Troon so far this week but two-time major champion Dustin Johnson gets a three on the par-five 16th to go to one over for the championship.

There are many vultures circling on that leaderboard, still within striking distance as we look ahead to the weekend.

  14. 'I'll watch the golf like any other fan'published at 13:14 British Summer Time 19 July

    Horschel -2 (68)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

BBC Radio 5 Live's Andy Stevenson has been speaking to Billy Horschel, who is two under for the tournament after a 68 today:

"When you wake up and see the weather conditions are going to be favourable for the majority of the morning for you, you want to take advantage of it and I did a really good job of that going out and then just played solid coming in.

"I could be very disappointed that I left a lot of birdie putts out there but we’ve got 36 more holes and I’m in a good spot going into the weekend."

On the difference in conditions between today and yesterday: "The first nine holes, the wind was blowing hard in off the right and it’s just a challenge flighting the golf ball the right way.

"It’s tough to cut it for a right-handed golfer into the wind because if you miss it up into the wind it’s not going to go anywhere and if you tug it, it rides the wind a lot.

"Coming in today we only have five miles per hour, seven miles per hour winds - it’s not that hard to control your trajectory and be a little bit more precise on your landing numbers."

On his plans for later, and does he hope the wind gets up later? "I don’t hope it blows a gale - I don’t want to bring bad karma on me.

"I’m going to do a little practice, some fundamentals. You play in this wind and the basics get a little off so I’m going to do that, do a little workout and watch the golf like every other fan."

  15. Postpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose -2 (2)

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland at Royal Troon

Justin Rose has had his jersey on, off, and back on again in the space of two holes. Not sure if that’s meteorologically-significant but he does seem a little discomfited out here right now.

He misses the target again with his approach but again keeps a bogey off his card. That could be a priceless knack today.

  16. Postpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1, Woods +13 (14)

Effective bunker shots get Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay out of bother on the 14th.

The duo will pocket pars and get out of there.

Tiger Woods takes aim from 48 feet and is inches from converting, only to fail on the way back and make bogey.

  17. Double bogey for Spiethpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth +3, Young +3 (11)

Jordan Spieth has paid the penalty for his tee shot - putting from the fringe for bogey and then ending up with a double.

Sink to the haunches for Scottie Scheffler as he just misses a lengthy birdie at 11.

Better news for Cam Young though as he finds a birdie to climb back above the projected cut line.

  18. Postpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 19 July

    Brown -5 (7)

After a par on the seventh, Dan Brown - now co-leader of The Open - has found the putting surface with his tee shot on the par-three eighth and will have a long birdie try to take the outright lead.

  19. Postpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -5 (11)

How does Shane Lowry recover from his travails on the 11th?

His tee shot on 12 is straight down the middle of the fairway.

  20. Postpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth E, Young +2 (10)

All that time delay on the 11th with Shane Lowry might have given Jordan Spieth time to find his tee shot.

He shanked it onto the other side of the railway line and out of bounds.
