  1. Double bogey for Lowrypublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -5 (11)

Two putts from the front edge of the green and Shane Lowry leaves an eventful 11th hole with a double bogey.

Back into a share of the lead.

  2. Postpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose -2 (1)

Justin Rose missed the green to the left at the first, from the fairway as well, but managed to get up-and-down for his four and a solid start.

    That's 19 holes without a bogey...

  3. 'The irony'published at 13:04 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -7 (10)

    Kat Downes
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

The irony is that this is the hole yesterday where Lowry took the lead on the opening day, and here he is toiling on the 11th.

That's what this hole can do to you.

  4. Burmester in the mixpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 19 July

    Burmester -2 (16)

Dean Burmester may be the richest golfer you've never heard of - with the big-hitting South African a winner on the LIV Golf tour this year he's banked just over $7.6m in that competition alone in 2024.

For reference the winner of the Open gets $3.1m this year (but that's another story).

Anyway, he's played well in the majors too, with a T12 at the US PGA Championship, and with a birdie on 16 he's now T4 at Royal Troon.

  5. Schauffele pars, Cantlay bogeyspublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -1, Schauffele -1, Woods +12 (13)

That's majestic from Xander Schauffele - or is it downright lucky?

With no sight of the green, he's whacked it out of the long grass, over the hill and stone dead within seven feet. Still, he misses the birdie chance.

Patrick Cantlay has made his first error of the day though, a putt from distance holding short and missing for par.

An up and down from Tiger Woods secures him a par.

    Rose -2 (1)

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland at Royal Troon

That wind really is picking up out here now. Justin Rose stepped off both his second shot and his putt as the gusts blew into his face. Still, an accomplished up-and-down ensures he stays bogey free for the tournament.

    Lowry -7 (10)

    Back to Shane Lowry...

He has actually dropped the ball on the spectator walkway between the 11th and 12th holes and sends his fourth shot in front of the green.

Looks like at least a double bogey incoming - he needs to make sure the damage isn't any worse than that.

    Fitzpatrick +6 (11)

While the Shane Lowry situation has been developing on the 11th, his playing partners have carried on.

Matt Fitzpatrick has carded a triple-bogey seven, after taking a penalty drop from where his tee shot landed and then knocking his third shot out of bounds.

In real danger of missing the cut now.

  9. Noren hands one backpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 19 July

    Noren -2 (4)

Alex Noren gives a shot back and annoyingly it's on a par five, when he had just 75 yards left playing his third shot from the fairway.

The Swede overshot his wedge and went off the back of the green, resulting in a six that slips him back to two under.

  10. 'There's nothing Lowry can do about it'published at 12:57 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -7 (10)

    Graeme Storm
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

If the ball is found within the three minutes, either by the player or a spectator, or others around, then that is the ball he has to play with. He can’t just declare it lost. It can be found within the three minutes.

The majority of players will say ‘look don’t look for it’ but is somebody finds it, there’s nothing you can do about it.

    Cantlay -2, Schauffele -1, Woods +12 (12)

All three of Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and Tiger Woods are scrubbing in the rough after their tee shots on 13.

I'll let Ken explain a bit more about penal that can be.

    Lowry -7 (10)

So - Shane Lowry has taken a drop back directly in line with where his ball landed in the bushes, and he's now on the 12th fairway preparing to take what will be his fourth shot.

  13. Can JT finally figure out links golf?published at 12:53 British Summer Time 19 July

    Thomas -3 (12:53 BST)

    Justin ThomasImage source, Getty Images

If any American has the game to master links golf it's Justin Thomas, one of the best shot makers on the PGA Tour who can move it both ways with ease.

However, although he's won two majors he's been nowhere near in the Open, with just a T11 at Portrush in 2019 his only finish of note.

That was in some pretty testing conditions though, so maybe there's a similarity with this week that could see him finally figure this style of golf out. He'll certainly be tested today.

    Brown -5 (6)

While the Shane Lowry saga develops on 11, back on the par-five sixth, Dan Brown registers another par.

  15. Bogeys for Schauffele and Woodspublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -2, Schauffele -1, Woods +12 (12)

Once again, there's the difference between Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele today as Cantlay rescues par and his mate lets it slip by.

Disappointment for Tiger Woods too as his trip to a greenside bunker ultimately costs him a shot.

  16. Postpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose -2

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland at Royal Troon

Big reception for Justin Rose as he strides on to the first tee. What price him being right in among it come the end of today?

  17. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -7 (10)

Hang on a second - it looks like Shane Lowry's ball from his second shot has been found...

  18. Spieth bogeys the 10thpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth +1, Young +2 (10)

That's well played by Scottie Scheffler to keep his card clean after overshooting the 10th green.

He needs to sink from nine feet to save par and does just that.

Meanwhile, after his ugly tee shot, Jordan Spieth gives himself a sniff of par from seven feet but misses. Shot dropped.

  19. Trouble for Lowrypublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -7 (10)

As he was on 10, Shane Lowry is slightly off line with his tee shot on 11.

This time, the second shot is hooked way left and into the bushes. I'm afraid that'll take some finding.

He takes a drop from the same spot and it doesn't seem like it's a provisional, so this will be his fourth...

Lowry finds the green, but it'll be a 20-footer to escape with a bogey.

  20. Postpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay -2, Schauffele -2, Woods +10 (11)

After sublime second shots on the past two holes, Xander Schauffele's blazed his into the crowd surrounding the 12th green and Patrick Cantlay comes up way short with his attempt.

Both scramble out but leave par putts of decent length to escape without any damage.
