  1. Pars all roundpublished at 10:10 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay +1, Schauffele -1, Woods +10 (3)

A steadier for Tiger Woods as he plonks his second shot at three onto the green, tickles it closes and tidies up for par.

    Similar story for Xander Schauffele.

Once again, Patrick Cantlay is the closest with his effort and has a decent look at birdie. This time, he misses.

(I got called out for it but my colleague still used my Siem pun. Am happy with that)

  3. Falling apart at the Siem(s)published at 10:07 British Summer Time 19 July

    Siem +1 (14)

The front nine at Royal Troon has always been about making your score and then hanging on for dear life on the much tougher back nine.

Marcel Siem was first out this morning and he raced through the first eight holes, picking up five birdies to climb to three under but since then it's all been a bit of a struggle.

Four shots gone in six holes, the latest at the 14th. A warning for those that are following as the wind starts to pick up.

    Morikawa +2 (2)

A couple of scrambling par saves to start for Collin Morikawa, who won on debut at Royal St George's in 2021.

He's contended at a couple of the majors this year, finishing in the top five at the Masters and the US PGA Championship.

  5. A birdie to start for Shanepublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 19 July

    Lowry -6 (1)

Easy as you like, Shane Lowry pops in a breaking birdie putt and is back in a share of the lead.

  6. Postpublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth E, Young +2 (09:58 BST)

Irons in hand for all three and they're safely away at the first.

  7. Postpublished at 09:59 British Summer Time 19 July

    Koepka -1, Clark +6 (3)

A routine par for Brooks Koepka on three.

Wyndham Clark, who started seven over, has given himself birdie opportunities on each of the first three holes and taken just one of them. He needs to pick up at least a couple of shots, you feel, to give himself a chance of being here for the weekend.

  8. Postpublished at 09:59 British Summer Time 19 July

    Horschel -1 (8)

An update on Billy Horschel who is having himself a neat round.

He’s just taken apart The Postage Stamp for a fine birdie and is up to one under for the tournament.

  9. Trouble in the undergrowthpublished at 09:58 British Summer Time 19 July

The gorse bushes are a graveyard for golf balls at Royal Troon. I discovered the hard way just on the edge of the 11th fairway.

Even if you can see your ball, you won’t be able to play it. And don’t, I repeat don’t try to retrieve one or you’ll fight a losing battle with the prickles. My sore finger should be a lesson to you all.

  10. Postpublished at 09:57 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -1, Spieth E, Young +2 (09:58 BST)

Plenty of potential in this group.

Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth and Cameron Young are waiting on the first tee.

From one behemoth American trio to another...

  12. Birdie for Cantlay, pain for Schauffele and Woodspublished at 09:57 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay +1, Schauffele -1, Woods +10 (2)

Lovely stuff Patrick Cantlay as he tucks away from 10 feet for an early birdie. Just what the doctor ordered.

That's in contrast to his playing partners who both pay for their second shots - Xander Schauffele with a bogey and Tiger Woods with a punishing double that includes a miss from four feet.

  13. Postpublished at 09:56 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fitzpatrick -1, Lowry -5

Shane Lowry is pinpoint accurate with his approach to the first and has a putt of about 10 feet left for birdie.

Matt Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, leaks one left and finds himself in the same patch of short grass that Collin Morikawa was a few minutes ago.

Also playing with this group is 2022 Open champion Cam Smith, who shot a nine-over 80 yesterday, but he's safely on the green in two and has a birdie chance.

  14. Will the real Spieth stand up?published at 09:55 British Summer Time 19 July

    Spieth E (09:58 BST)

    Jordan SpiethImage source, PA Media

Signs of life from the four-time major champion who has not been able to get anything going in the big tournaments this year.

Like his best mate Justin Thomas, he seemed to relish the swirling conditions on Thursday, even if he, as usual, juggled some excellent shots with a litany of errors.

We've seem him do that on a Sunday before (2017 at Lytham, anyone?) so know he can go low.

  15. Siem bogeys 13published at 09:51 British Summer Time 19 July

    Siem E (13)

Yep, sadly for Marcel Siem all those shots he gained on his front nine are being eroded.

He's given another back at 13 and finds himself at level par once again.

  16. Postpublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 19 July

    Morikawa +2 (1)

A touch of class from Collin Morikawa on the first.

Just off to the left of the green in two, his third shot is a chip that looks for all money that it's going to drop - but lips out at the last moment.

A par will do to start, though.

  17. Postpublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fitzpatrick -1, Lowry -5

A nice round of applause for Shane Lowry as he gets his second round under way.

His tee shot has a bit of fade on it and slides into the semi rough.

Matt Fitzpatrick goes with an iron and is safely on the fairway.

  18. Hunting a Tigerpublished at 09:48 British Summer Time 19 July

    Woods +8 (1)

Andrew Murray out with a Tiger Woods fanImage source, BBC Sport

Former European Tour pro Andrew Murray is out following Tiger Woods, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay this morning, in the company of 5 Live commentator Alistair Bruce-Ball.

We think that's Andrew on the right of this photo.

Live comms kicks in at 11:00 BST.

  19. Postpublished at 09:47 British Summer Time 19 July

    Cantlay +2, Schauffele -2, Woods +8 (1)

A mistake from Xander Schauffele at the second as he tries to draw his approach in from the right. It doesn't move though and he's only found the greenside bunker.

Tiger Woods was out in the rough and can't recover to get on the green either.

Only Patrick Cantlay will have a birdie look here.
