  1. Ciganda makes clutch puttpublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 14 September

Lexi Thompson gets the honour for the birdie putt and she piles on the pressure by rolling it in and giving a firm fist pump.

I said Calota Ciganda had hit a beauty - it's a bit further than six feet away though and she needs to hole it to stop the US taking the lead.

Clutch. Well played Ciganda. This match remains on a knife edge.

  2. Zhang crusing homepublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 14 September

    4UP An Lee/Zhang v Boutier/Grant (11)

It's all going pear-shaped for Linn Grant and Celine Boutier, who now have a mountain to climb to get back in this match.

Rose Zhang scoops up the ball out of the hole at the 11th and raises it triumphantly to the adoring crowd after another 10-foot plus birdie putt.

This fourball grouping will not be on the course much longer if Zhang continues to stay hot on the greens.

  3. Long-winded half at 12published at 20:32 British Summer Time 14 September

    2UP Khang/Lee v Nordqvist/Sangstrom (12)

There's some tactical putting by Megan Khang and Alison Lee, but Lee misses from four feet - and misses quite badly as well as it's nowhere near the hole.

Anna Nordqvist, meanwhile, is at the back of the green in two, then putts it off the front of the green and two-putts for par.

And after all that, Madelene Sagstrom misses a tough birdie try and the hole is halved.

    Ewing/Thompson v Ciganda/Pedersen A/S (9)

Europe need their big hitters to wrest this back over the final nine holes and Carlota Ciganda is stepping up.

Another majestic approach shot at the 10th will tee up a six-foot birdie chance for the Spaniard.

Hold onto the towel - she's nowhere near throwing it in.

Iain Carter says it took nine-and-a-half seconds - ish - for the ball to drop.

Fair to say that while the US have certainly played better and fully deserve their lead, they have had a few things go their way during this tournament.

One or two European faces looked pretty perplexed on the 11th when Megan Khang’s ball teetered on the edge of the cup and eventually dropped.

Albeit fans in the stand next to the dance floor tried to give it every chance banging their feet hard on the flooring to try to create some extra vibrations.

“What about the 10-second rule,” shouted a Scottish accent nearby as the referee waved the players on to the 12th.

    Corpuz/Vu v Hall/Hull A/S (8)

No joy for Charley Hull, either, as she sees a makeable putt hit the lip of the hole at the eighth.

Allisen Corpuz sniffs the chance to draw level and duly sinks hers for a birdie to wipe the bit of European blue off the board again.

Celine Boutier and Linn Grant, hands on hips, looking a bit forlorn after Andrea Lee trickles in a putt from 10 feet for a birdie. Playing partner Rose Zhang is wagging her finger in the air again in celebration on the green at the 10th.

Boutier steps and then misses a birdie putt of her own to give the American pair the hole as they go three up.

  10. Ciganda long putt stays uppublished at 20:15 British Summer Time 14 September

    Ewing/Thompson v Ciganda/Pedersen (9)

Carlota Ciganda is inches from claiming the ninth hole for the third match as she takes aim from 16 feet and it lips round the cup.

Fine effort but this group stays all square as it turns for home.

Europe's Esther Henseleit joined the BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra team just as Megan Khang putt's somehow dropped into the hole.

She played a vital role in securing a point for Suzann Pettersen's side this morning.

"Maybe a little heartbreak but that was a great putt from Anna. At least some momentum going for us and some putts are dropping. It's good to see.

"We're just trying to go for it. We need some points. We said the same thing this morning. Was great to see some blue even though we couldn't win the session.

"We definitely feel like we're getting it going - and we feel like we're still in it."

It twitched and it fell. Can you believe that.

Something is smiling down on this American team.

  13. It dropped in!published at 20:09 British Summer Time 14 September

    2UP Khang/Lee v Nordqvist/Sangstrom (11)

Wow! We've seen some lucky breaks today - and now even gravity seems to be supporting Team USA as Megan Khang misses her putt to halve the hole - or does she?

The ball is perched on the lip but doesn't look close enough to drop. Then, as Khang gives up and starts to walk, it suddenly disappears into the hole for the half!

Now this is definitely what I've been sent out here to spot...

Georgia Hall was in fits of laughter a short while ago on the sixth green.

While Charley Hull was lining up a birdie putt, she bent down to wipe something off the green. Turned out the 'something' was a bit slimy and not very nice.

I've seen plenty of birds this week... I think we all know what it was.

Charley too saw the funny side but was still examining her finger after wiping the poo, let's just call it poo, from her digit and taking two putts for a half.

  16. Altered 11th presents new challengepublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 14 September

    Steve Sutcliffe
    BBC Sport in Virginia

When you have four different tee-off areas dotted around it stands to reason that you can alter the complexion of a hole very easily, which is exactly the case on the 11th hole.

Shifting the tee 50 yards right has maybe narrowed the landing area slightly and brought an extra bunker to the front right into play as Madelene Sagstrom has just found out.

  17. Hall finding formpublished at 20:00 British Summer Time 14 September

    Corpuz/Vu v Hall/Hull 1 UP (7)

It's been a subdued start by Georgia Hall to this fourballs, but she nails a confidence-boosting lengthy putt to nab a birdie.

But for Lilia Vu it's a case of whatever Hall can do she can as well. Vu produces a stunning putt of her own to ensure they head into the eighth just one behind the Europeans.

Iain Carter says this is a must-win session. He's surely right.

    But will they?

Thumbs up if you're predicting 2½ or more for Europe.

Thumbs down if it'll be fewer than that.

Europe have to win this session.

    It's non-negotiable.

  20. Europe pull one backpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 14 September

    2UP Khang/Lee v Nordqvist/Sangstrom (10)

It's Anna Nordqvist who finds the birdie on 10, and it's a surprise to see Alison lee then miss from inside four feet to hand the hole to Europe.

    Still life in this one.
