Europe take three-point lead on opening day of Ryder Cup

    1UP Griffin/DeChambeau v Fleetwood/Rose (5)

Neither Tommy Fleetwood or Justin Rose can record a three on the fifth and are punished as Bryson DeChambeau drops in a right-to-left putt almost dead weight from 13 feet.

The American looks pumped as he celebrates seeing his ball disappear to win the hole.

    1UP Young/Thomas v Aberg/Hojgaard (4)

Another wayward drive by Cameron Young as he finds the rough to the left of the fairway before Justin Thomas does the same. It must be catching.

Ludvig Aberg only has eyes for the fairway and he lands safely and Rasmus Hojgaard does the same.

Team Europe in better shape on hole five.

A bad miss from Rory McIlroy there, but I'd be surprised if that phases these two.

They look deep, deep in the zone and it will take some effort from Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns to tame these heroes from the island of Ireland.

    1UP Young/Thomas v Aberg/Hojgaard (4)

In fact, Justin Thomas hits his third shot to catch up to Team Europe on the green and he leaves just under seven feet. Cameron Young with his third shot also goes close to the pin.

Rasmus Hojgaard is the first to get his putter out and his long putt is just short, but here is Ludvig Aberg with the birdie.

Young, now under pressure, finds the hole for the half.

    Griffin/DeChambeau A/S Fleetwood/Rose (4)

Oh dear. Tommy Fleetwood and Ben Griffin go right off the fifth tee.

The Englishman finds the rough while Griffin, may need some pebbles to find his way back from there.

He can only punt his second 50 yards back into play and when Fleetwood flights a crisp wood into the heart of the green around 14 feet from the pin it applies a little touch of pressure to Bryson DeChambeau, who answers in fine style, zipping into 13 feet.

I really didn’t see that coming. It looked like [Rory McIlroy] hit a great putt, but it just dived at the end.

Full on horseshoe, straight back at him and he’s just staring in disbelief that it didn’t go in.

    Not ideal here.

Turns out Justin Thomas found his ball but the lie of it means he can only drop 65 yards away from the hole. Far from ideal for the US.

Cameron Young is having a bit of trouble with his ball. One to come back to.

    Burns/Cantlay A/S McIlroy/Lowry (3)

No joy for Patrick Cantlay. That slides by without touching the hole.

So, Rory McIlroy from three feet for back-to-back wins for this pair.

    No!

    Horseshoes out!

Let-off for the US there. This game has the makings of a classic.

    1UP Young/Thomas v Aberg/Hojgaard (3)

Team Europe hit first with Ludvig Aberg from the rough managing to dig out a fine shot and landing to within 35 feet of the pin. Rasmus Hojgaard was the only player to find the green but his approach shot isn't the best and he's got a very long putt coming his way.

Team USA are probably still trying to find their balls in the trees.

  10. Lipped out!published at 18:52 BST 26 September

    Scheffler/Spaun v Rahm/Straka 1UP (5)

If you watched JJ Spaun win the US Open you'll know this guy can putt - especially from long range and he's so close to adding another 30-plus footer to his collection as it tracks right to left but just catches too much of the right edge and turns away from the hole.

Europe escape with their lead intact.

    Burns/Cantlay A/S McIlroy/Lowry (2)

Sam Burns hits his shot left into the rough on the 212-yard par three. Struggling from there with Rory McIlroy so close.

Patrick Cantlay is a streetfighter, though, and he feathers his long iron to eight feet.

He will likely have to hole that for the half. But he's that sort of character.

    1UP Young/Thomas v Aberg/Hojgaard (3)

Cameron Young does not like that drive and it's no surprise! His ball is currently sitting left in the native area. Justin Thomas manages to be even worse and finds the trees.

Rasmus Hojgaard goes right and finds the fairway before Ludvig Aberg also ends up in the rough.

A bit of trouble for all four players here.

    Burns/Cantlay A/S McIlroy/Lowry (2)

Club twirl from Rory McIlroy means we can assume this is going VERY close.

    Three feet, at most.

    These two are pumped.

I wonder what Donald Trump said to US captain Keegan Bradley after this morning's humbling in the foursomes.

Do they have dungeons at the White House?

We haven’t seen anything that separates the teams so far. Everybody’s been in the fairway, everybody’s been on the green except for Bryson on two. Playing pretty steady.

    Griffin/DeChambeau A/S Fleetwood/Rose (4)

Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood both putt for eagles on the fourth. Had either of them made a three the hole was turning blue but it doesn't with both unable to drain lengthy efforts.

Ben Griffin's superb chip to gimme range ensures the quartet trundle off to the fifth tee with the match still all square.

  17. Lowry lands a blowpublished at 18:45 BST 26 September

    Burns/Cantlay A/S McIlroy/Lowry (2)

'Sugar' Shane Lowry lands a jab right on Team USA's nose by ramming in a 16-foot putt for birdie three.

So Rory McIlroy can pick his up, and it's over to Sam Burns to try to half the hole.

He is a superb putter, Burns, but he can't match Lowry and it's all square in the grudge match.

  18. Postpublished at 18:41 BST 26 September

    1UP Young/Thomas v Aberg/Hojgaard (3)

Ludvig Aberg steps up with the putter in hand first and leaves his ball just under four feet away. Rasmus Hojgaard is over 40 feet back and he sends in a lovely putt but can't find the hole.

Justin Thomas now with a chance to win the hole from the fringe but he'll be relying on partner Cameron Young.

Can Young find the hole from 16 feet? No. He's centimetres right.

    1UP Burns/Cantlay v McIlroy/Lowry (1)

Rory McIlroy hits his drive down the right and leaves himself a horrible hanging lie. To mere mortals that means a raging pull left, but he's Rory McIlroy and he caresses his approach to three feet.Sam Burns gives himself a chance of a three too, though, with a fine approach.

    Griffin/DeChambeau A/S Fleetwood/Rose (3)

    Tommy Fleetwood doesn't like that...

The Englishman's iron shot into the par-five fourth drifts left and finds the fringe of the green.

Thankfully his parter, Justin Rose zips into the middle of the putting surface inside both American balls.
