That is some atmosphere around that ninth green.

It's still good-natured and is on the right side.

This is just a classic Friday afternoon at the Ryder Cup.

It's all happening at the ninth in the top match - which has attracted both Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald to check out what's happening.

The Americans try some fourballs tactics with Scottie Scheffler furthest away but JJ Spaun having his try first from nine feet, to avoid Scheffler giving a read to Jon Rahm.

Spaun misses it though and then Scheffler's effort is poor, but Rahm gets a read of the line and is just a few inches away from draining it from 18 feet!

Hard to know who got away with it more there, but it ends up halved.

The crowd is still very good natured.

Obviously they’re cheering the Americans – you’d expect that, trying to get them up, trying to get them going.

Shane Lowry isn't known as one of the world's best iron players for nothing and he fires his approach to the seventh pin high. Lowry needed that, he's not contributed too much so far.

Water and sand the dangers from the tee box on the eighth hole. Cameron Young finds the green but American team-mate Justin Thomas is in the bunker.

Europeans Ludvig Aberg and Rasmus Hojgaard both on the green.

Fourball is made for DeChambeau - he can just let it rip knowing that his partner is there for support.

    1UP Griffin/DeChambeau v Fleetwood/Rose (8)

Justin Rose is up first with his putter and his uphill effort stays straight then breaks left.

There's a fair bit for Bryson DeChambeau to take on board from that but it pulls up short of the cup.

Can Tommy Fleetwood take the hole for Europe...?

There's nowhere near enough gas on that and he'll have work to do as his playing partner Justin Rose misses a slippery four footer to halve the hole. His fellow Englishman makes no mistake from three feet.

Does Justin Rose care about the Ryder Cup?

    You tell me.

    1UP Griffin/DeChambeau v Fleetwood/Rose (7)

Ben Griffin goes miles right off the tee on the par-three eighth. It may be a case of, over to you partner, with Bryson DeChambeau landing on the right of the putting surface.

Justin Rose's ball trickles back and hits Bryson's so will potentially give him a read on the putt. But what can Tommy Fleetwood do?

The Englishman goes straight at the pin and will find he's about 20 feet closer than either Rose or BDC.

  11. Blue back on the boardpublished at 19:51 BST 26 September

Scoreboard with two red matches and two blues

That ties us up again as the opening match approaches the turn.

Europe very much back in this session.

  12. McIlroy pours in putt for leadpublished at 19:50 BST 26 September

    Burns/Cantlay v McIlroy/Lowry 1UP (6)

Patrick Cantlay is through the back and flubs his chip halfway to the hole. That was not pretty. Sam Burns flips his chip from an acutely uphill lie to all-but gimme distance.

But Rory McIlroy can make that irrelevant if he can box this.

Eight feet I said? Probably more like 10 actually... but that doesn't matter to the man who has completed Grand Slam.

IN it goes! And McIlroy and Shane Lowry chest pump to celebrate. They will take some beating, I'm telling you.

Monster drive from Rory McIlroy on the sixth. He could blow this onto the green if there wasn't a bunker in front of his ball.

He pitches it to eight feet and a chance of a three.

    Catriona Matthew

[Scheffler] is just standing looking at the line as if he misread it but it didn’t even look as if it was that close from that distance.

  16. And Rahm lands one!published at 19:43 BST 26 September

    Scheffler/Spaun v Rahm/Straka 2UP (8)

The putts are flying in now as Jon Rahm cans his birdie putt from 17 feet on the eighth - and although Scottie Scheffler only has seven feet for the half he crumbles and misses to hand Europe a two-hole lead.

Scheffler is a bit like a reverse Ian Poulter - simply untouchable in regular strokeplay but in the Ryder Cup he just can't do it.

  17. Rose responds after Griffin drains long puttpublished at 19:42 BST 26 September

    1UP Griffin/DeChambeau v Fleetwood/Rose (7)

Ben Griffin drains a putt from downtown on the seventh and sprints over to chest bump his team-mate Bryson De Chambeau.

The American duo think this hole is in the bag until Justin Rose sinks a 40-footer to halve things and celebrates in a similar style.

  20. Aberg fluffs chancepublished at 19:38 BST 26 September

    2UP Young/Thomas v Aberg/Hojgaard (6)

Justin Thomas has the chance of a birdie putt on the sixth from just over 12 feet, but comes up just short. He shakes his club in frustration.

Ludvig Aberg takes his time with a simpler birdie putt of his own to win the hole and claw a point back, but skims it just wide.

The Swede chuckles to himself. He cannot believe he didn't sink that.
