  1. Bye, Henrikpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

We have our first withdrawal of the 2016 US Open.

Sweden's Henrik Stenson shot a one under 69 in his first round, but was on nine over on his second and did not come back to complete his round this morning.

He has gone on to Twitter and wrote...

  2. Bogey - Westwood loses outright leadpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Well, it did not last long. Lee Westwood held an overall lead of the 2016 US Open after birdies at the first and fourth. But the joy only lasted for less than two holes as a bogey at the par three sixth drops him back down to four under.

That means that Dustin Johnson, who finished his first two rounds yesterday has regained a share of the lead.

  3. Double bogey - Willett's worst holepublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Three birdies for Rory McIlroy and it so nearly became four. His attempt on the 15th just creeps past the hole.

It is also bad news for Masters champion Danny Willett, who comes up with a double bogey at the same hole after earlier sending his tee shot into the sand. Both players are now on four over overall.

The projected cut is currently at the seven over mark, so both players still don't have much room for errors.

  4. 'It is definitely getting faster'published at 15:19 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Some quotes from Louis Oosthuizen, whose 65 is the best score of the day so far. He tells Sky Sports: "After my first round, I was not swinging it really good, but I found something and managed to hit it better. I gave myself a lot of birdie opportunities and hit it well.

"A lot of times, my swing was all over the place, but yesterday on the course I had something different to focus on and it worked. A day's rest would have been good to find out what went wrong. It is not always easy to save pars so you need to hit greens here.

"It is definitely getting faster. This afternoon will be different and Sunday will be a lot firmer and faster. The guys in round one on Thursday, it was a horrible day, but for us yesterday it was a very long day. But I will rest up and be ready for this afternoon."

  5. Eagle - Miyazato shows his dance movespublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Great scenes on the 18th as Japan's Yusaku Miyazato has just claimed an eagle, as his second shot on the 472-yard par four, from well down the fairway, bounces a few times on the green and disappears.

Miyazato then shows off his best dance moves to celebrate. He is wasted on the golf course. He needs to be on the dance floor. Miyazato is two over at the moment, so we may well be able to see him strut his stuff even more in the tournament.

  6. Birdie - Fowler still fightingpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Let's not forget the third man in the McIlroy and Willett threeball. It is of course American Rickie Fowler, a US Open runner-up two years ago.

He is not going to recreate his form from two years ago as his first round score of six over left him fighting just to make the cut. While McIlroy and Willett were impressing early in their rounds, Fowler was picking up bogeys at the 11th and 12th to drop to eight over.

But he has not given up yet, and sunk a spectacular putt from 31 feet for a birdie at the 14th.

  7. Birdie - McIlroy shines againpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Where was this Rory McIlroy on Thursday? It has been a dream start for the 2011 champion as he has just made his third birdie in five holes.

He swings in a perfectly-weighted 14-foot putt to claw another shot back on the 14th.

Once again, playing partner Danny Willett does exactly the same as McIlroy and the pair have identical records from five holes today.

Played five, birdies three, pars two, bogeys none.

  8. Landry dropping like a stonepublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

We just published the top of the leaderboard and you will notice that the name of Andrew Landry is nowhere to be seen. That's because the dream is dying for the surprise leader on the first two days.

Bogeys at the sixth and seventh have been followed by a double bogey at the eighth as he has gone out in four over, a score that has seen him drop from first to tied 12th.

Scott Martin: Westy is going to hold on. Come on.. England on high at the moment

Andy Murray fan: Would love Lee to win this.  Deserves it.  Good luck Westie.

Andrew Priestley: A birdie-par-birdie is a great start to round two by Rory McIlroy, but he's left himself a mountain of work to just make the cut.

  11. New leader - and he's Englishpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, we have an outright leader. And it is great news for England as Lee Westwood has moved top, curling in a five-foot putt on the 619-yard par-five fourth.

That is his second birdie of the day and what a sight the leaderboard is for the 43-year-old.

  12. Willett matches playing partner McIlroypublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

It has been a great start for Rory McIlroy and also for Masters champion Danny Willett, who is in the same threeball as the Northern Irishman.

Whatever you can do, I can do seems to be their motto. Both have birdied their first hole of the day - the tenth, both have made par at the 11th, and both have birdied the 12th.

Willett is now on three over overall, McIlroy five over, but they will be a lot happier then when they started.

  13. Birdie - Great start for McIlroypublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Rory McIlroy is starting to make a move up the leaderboard. He started with a birdie at the 10th and has just tapped in for another one, at the 12th.

A great start for the 2011 champion and will ease his nerves and those of his fans.

Two under through three and five over overall.

  15. 'My scoring hasn't been what I want'published at 14:33 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Another player facing an anxious wait is American Phil Mickelson, a five-time major winner who is seeking to become just the sixth player to have won all four Grand Slam titles.

He has been the runner-up a record six times at the US Open, but had to settle for a three over 73, to be on seven over overall.

"Hopefully, I'll make the cut. I believe that I will," said 46-year-old Mickelson said. "If so and I have an opportunity, you just never know on this golf course. We've seen low scores.

"I don't feel like I have to search for anything on the range. I feel like my game is there, but my scoring hasn't been what I want the first two days."

  16. Rose sweating on his futurepublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

There was some frustration for a number of golfers last night as bad light meant they had to set their alarms early this morning to finish off their work.

And there are some big names in trouble and sweating to see if they will get to play rounds three and four.

One of those in the biggest amount of danger is England's Justin Rose, the 2013 champion. He had to play his last three holes of round two early today, and two bogeys has left him on eight over overall, currently in tied 96th.

  19. Wonderful from Oosthuizenpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

We mentioned that McIlroy was targeting a 66, on one of the toughest courses - if not the toughest - in world golf. Well, it can be done.

American Daniel Summerhays scored a five under round of 65 yesterday and South African Louis Oosthuizen has done the same today.

Oosthuizen, the 2010 Open champion, was five over after the first round and started badly with a bogey at the 10th in round two. But three successive birdies, from the 12th to 14th followed, before dropped shots at the 17th and first.

But how about this for ending in style? Birdies in four holes in a row, from the third to the sixth, and then another one at the ninth. His efforts leave him on level par, and able to look forward to coming back out in action later on.

One of the golfers in tied third, two shots behind Dustin Johnson and Lee Westwood, is Spain's Sergio Garcia, who ended his round in style last night with a stunning 40-footer to save par on his last hole.

The Spaniard is in good spirits today and has just tweeted...
