It is time for me to say goodbye and hand over to Peter Scrivener, who will take you through the rest of today's action.

  2. Spieth survivespublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Jordan Spieth is on four over coming into the 18th and barring a dramatic late horror show has done enough to carry on.

  4. Willett scrapes throughpublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Playing partners Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler have fallen by the wayside, but Masters champion Danny Willett has done enough to ensure his participation tonight and tomorrow, in the third and fourth rounds respectively. But only just.

A par at the last sees him level for the day and five over overall.

  5. Knox in the mixpublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Scotland's Russell Knox will be around for the rest of the weekend. He has birdied the 17th to get back to level par for the tournament. A 10-foot par putt at the last for par? Pulled left. He's going to start round three on one over par, very much in contention.

  6. McIlroy is outpublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Confirmation that Rory McIlroy's double bogey at the last sees him miss the cut by two shots. Great drama at the US Open. A great shame for the Northern Irishman.

It is the top 60 plus ties who will be taking part in the third and fourth rounds of the US Open, and McIlroy is tied 76th.

The last time McIlroy missed a cut in a major was at The Open in 2013.

  7. Rahm last amateur standingpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Spaniard Jon Rahm will be the lone player flying the amateur flag in the final two rounds of this year's US Open.

Rahm followed up his first-round 76 with a one-under 69 today to finish on +5 for his two rounds.

American amateur Scottie Scheffler was in contention after round one with a one-under 69, but a 78 today has seen him slip to +7.

He's not in bad company though, other big names who have missed the cut are former champions Justin Rose and Ernie Els, six-time runner-up Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Luke Donald.

  9. McIlroy is going to miss the cutpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 18 June 2016
    Breaking

McIlroy in the sand. And one shot later he is still in the sand. Absolute disaster, as his escape attempt hits the top of the bunker and the ball rolls back into the trap.

He looks distraught and that is going to be the end of that. He is not going to make the cut.

The last two rounds will be taking place without the former world number one.

  10. Birdie - Westwood ends stronglypublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

What a mixed day for Lee Westwood. He is one under after a birdie on the last. He had earlier dropped six shots in nine holes, after being in the outright lead before that.

The sort of round when you need a good lie down straight after.

  11. McIlroy in the bunkerpublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Unbelievable. Also on the ninth, and Rory McIlroy has sent his tee shot into the sand. It is a par four so he has three shots to stay in the tournament. If he needs any more then it will be all over.

  12. Willett hanging onpublished at 18:41 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Masters champion Danny Willett is on five over with one to play. He has a one-shot cushion so could still advance with a bogey. He bangs his tee shot on the ninth - his final hole - straight down the middle.

  13. McIlroy still fightingpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Rory McIlroy's tee shot was not the best, but his second repairs the damage, finishing a couple of feet away to give him a great chance of saving par at the short eighth and he taps in. One to play and the mantra must be do not bogey, do not bogey, do not bogey...

  15. McIlroy drags tee shot widepublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

On to the eighth tee and McIlroy drags his first shot wide. He slams the club into the ground in frustration. This is a par three, so again it is a test of nerve for the Northern Irishman. Again, he has to be flawless from here.

  16. Birdie - Willett closes in on the third roundpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Masters champion Danny Willett is on five over, but any fears of him missing the cut seem to have ended with a birdie on the seventh to go to four over.

Unless he falls apart in his last two holes, that should be enough to see him into the third round.

McIlroy gets out of the rough well to leave a six-footer, and he keeps his composure to save par. Just what both golfers needed.

  17. Par for Spiethpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Defending champion Jordan Spieth, just like Rory McIlroy, is battling to keep his US Open hopes alive.

He has just rolled a monster putt from one side of the 15th green to the other to within a couple of feet of the hole and comfortably makes par.

The two-time major champion is +5, just within the projected cut, with three holes to play.

  18. McIlroy in the roughpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Rory McIlroy's tee shot on the seven finds the middle of the fairway, but he is in trouble with his second shot, which bounces off the green, past the hole and into the rough.

It is a par four, so he has two shots to save himself on this one. There is no room for manoeuvre. any mistake could cost him his US Open future.

Remember, he started on the 10th, so just the seventh, eighth and ninth left for the former world number one.

  19. Bogey - McIlroy on the brinkpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Rory McIlroy has three of the most important holes of his year right now. A bogey at the sixth, leaves him in grave danger of missing the cut.

That comes at 60th and ties, and McIlroy is currently 60th. One mistake from now on and that could be his hopes evaporating.

  20. Birdie - Just what Westwood needspublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

That will make him feel better. After a run of six dropped shots in nine holes, a birdie is just what Lee Westwood needs.

And that is just what he gets on the 16th. He is level par overall. Four strokes off the lead, although his poor run in the middle of his second round could prove critical when it comes to the final shakedown on Sunday.
