  1. Par for Lowry, bogey for Landrypublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 19 June 2016

    Lowry -7 (1), Landry -2 (1)

We have some early movement as Branden Grace taps in for birdie on the second. Don't forget, that's a hole you can get at and Lee Westwood and Dustin Johnson are teeing it up.

Andrew Landry is in a bit of trouble on one. He's too heavy with a wedge and will leave 15ft for par. That's not what you want to start a day when there are more eyes on you than ever before. Here comes his effort, it's low, a shade off line and that will be bogey.

Shane Lowry has gone through the green and his short game is needed. A solid chip, 10ft for par now. He stands, white cap, black shirt, white trousers and his putter is white hot. Cracking save.

Dustin Johnson is about to try to drive a 320-yard par four, so now is a good time. Boom.

Rory McIlroy has singled out the pin position on the second green as one which is particularly harsh.

It's 11ft on and 7ft from the edge but what these charts don't show you is that the hole is at the top of a slope.

Balls will roll back off the green as Jordan Spieth has already found out. Anything short gets punished. Anything long with too much spin will fly back down the green and end up on the fairway again.

    Grace -1 (1)

I'd call Branden Grace a wily old fox. He just has the look of a clever fella who knows how to make himself a contender on days like today.

"Go, go, go," he yells on two as he tries to drive this 320-yard par four. The South African finds the green but his ball will roll back down to the fairway.

  5. Piercy's perfect startpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 19 June 2016

    Piercy -2 (2)

Scott Piercy makes a big early move. Birdie-birdie start for the American. He's been hanging around the top of the leaderboard all week, pesky bogeys checking his progress. But he's up to two under.

Playing partner Sergio Garcia gets up down from the bunker for a scrambling par save to stay level.

    Johnson -3 (1), Westwood -2 (1)

The penultimate group are up on this first green. Par is a major haul on this drag. The green is a nuisance, no other word for it.

A nice touch from Lee Westwood from the fringe and that should be a tap in for par.

Dustin Johnson has a 37-footer for birdie. It goes and goes and goes to leave 10ft for par. That's nicely tidied up by DJ. Westwood is in too. Well done lads.

  7. Lowry's countrypublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 19 June 2016

    Lowry -7 (20:30 BST)

It would perhaps be fitting if Shane Lowry became America's national champion. He likes the place so much he got married in New York this year.

You would presume his wife Wendy is in attendance. This could be some year for the couple, life changing in more ways than one.

    Lowry -7

It's a bit of a hook from Shane Lowry, that ball is drawing at a rate of knots and as my colleague says, "he's in the cabbage". It's rough but the green is in sight for the Irishman.

  11. Landry has a gameplan to create historypublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 19 June 2016

Andrew Landry, the surprise package of the week, is playing his first major. Should he win he will be just the fourth player to win on debut. The first was amateur Francis Ouimet who won the US Open in 1913.

Since then, only Ben Curtis at the 2003 Open and Keegan Bradley at the 2011 US PGA Championship have followed suit.

Not that Mr Landry is too bothered with the weight of history weighing down on him...

"My game is feeling good so I'm continuing with my gamplan and hoping for the best," he said.

"Everybody has the belief, whether me or Jason Dufner or Kevin Na. Everyone's got the belief that they are going to win. Nobody is here thinking they just want to make the cut."

When asked how he would deal with the pressure if he was in contention going down the stretch, he replied: "I have a gameplan. I have a gameplan for everything."

    Grace -1 (1), Westwood -2, Johnson -3, Garcia E (1)

Branden Grace has played a superb second shot from the ninth fairway to find the first green. Yes, you read that correctly. His putt leaves a tap in for par. He'd have taken that a few minutes ago.

Sergio Garcia is melting down on two, chipping through the green and into a bunker, he'll have an up and down for par.

Lee Westwood from 168 yards and the bunker on one... solid to the fringe.

Now Dustin Johnson, fresh from a 378-yard drive, has a wedge in his hands. It's a little short and leaves a long putt.

Now, to the lead group on the tee...

  14. That's ugly!published at 20:26 British Summer Time 19 June 2016

    Spieth +8 (9)

Jordan Spieth his finding it tough out there again today. The swagger and confidence has gone, I'm not going to say it's since his dance with the water at Augusta.

He makes the turn three over for the day and eight over for the tournament.

Spieth has hit 57% of fairways and 56% of greens this week. It's just not good enough.

  15. Cabrera finishes uppublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 19 June 2016

Angel Cabrera knocks in a par on the last for a one-over 71 to finish on nine over par. That's just four shots worse than his winning score at Oakmont back in 2007. A decent week for the man from Argentina.

  16. What a shot!published at 20:22 British Summer Time 19 June 2016

    Johnson -3, Westwood -2

Lee Westwood starts the first badly, into the sand off the tee. Dustin Johnson stands up there and treats the ball like a hockey puck. It's frightening, it's long, it's not stopping and it's brilliant.

I'm guessing that's over 350 yards and Lee Westwood would buy that drive off him right now.

    Day +1 (2), DeChambeau E (2)

Zach Johnson has started bogey-par-par and moves back to two over as a result. He needs some of the Brooks Koepka medicine if he's to figure here.

Scott Piercy - an American trying to win their national title - makes birdie on one and is now one under and well placed.

Bryson DeChambeau on two, for back-to-back birdies, this has huge break and is delicate... no. It hangs on the lip.

Jason Day will go for birdie on the same green, eight feet or so, uphill, in she goes.

Sorry John, but I'm far too young to remember The Magnificent Seven. I do hope Shane is "quick on the draw" though but that he doesn't "fire" too many "shots" astray.

  20. I'm just going to try and hit the fairway - Westwoodpublished at 20:12 British Summer Time 19 June 2016

    Westwood -2 (20:20 BST)

“It’s taken some while to get short game into my head," Lee Westwood tells Sky Sporys. "My bunker play and chipping has greatly improved after working with Pete (Cowan).

"On the first, I’m just going to try and hit the fairway and make a four.

"There is a lot more pressure when playing Majors. We build them up more than we should do.”
