There have been messages of support flowing in from some of sport's biggest stars for Europe's players, here's a few of the best...

Former England rugby union coach Sir Clive Woodward "Great teams are made of great individuals - support each other and enjoy every minute."

Ex-England striker Alan Shearer: "Just remember, pressure is for tyres...good luck!"

Tennis Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray: "Good luck guys. Love the Ryder Cup! Will be watching. Bring it home!"

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 1UP (10)

Rory McIlroy and Thomas Pieters need to stop the American run of holes on 11. It's a par five and nothing in it after two blows. A chipping contest awaits. Rickie Fowler, shoddy, leaves a lengthy putt. Pieters, shoddy, leaves a lengthy putt.

    3UP Reed/Spieth v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello (7)

Spieth on tee at the par-three eighth and he's safely into the heart of the green... before his ball rolls back down the ledge. Cabrera-Bello tugs his left, setting up a long-range putt-out. On tee at nine, Zach Johnson finds sand. Europe, meanwhile, are safely on the fairway.

  4. 'Woods won't go through surgery again'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    United States 5-3 Europe

Three-time Ryder Cup player Hunter Mahan speaking to BBC Radio 5 live on whether USA team-mate Tiger Woods will ever play in the competition again: "We have to watch him play at least once or twice, give him at least six months of golf before we make that conclusion.

"I don't think he can go through surgery again. I don't think he wants to go through rehab again. He wants to make sure his body is right before he goes out there again."

    Walker/Z Johnson v Rose/Wood 1UP (8)

Rose with his birdie putt at eight, from about 30 feet, and it slides a couple of inches by. So, Zach has a 20-footer to win it but can't pull it off. As you were... Back at seven, Garcia bends in a nasty birdie putt, but Reed follows him in. USA remains three up, Spieth punches the air in relief.

  7. Party in Minneapolispublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    USA 5-3 Europe

It's like golf meets Glastonbury. Party hats, flags, worn pathways. No sign of Seasick Steve though.

    3UP Reed/Spieth v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello (6)

Cabrera-Bello into the seventh, after a fine approach by Spieth, and that's decent. Although, I should add, not as decent as Spieth...

  9. USA up - Two in a rowpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 1UP

Even though Thomas Pieters dug Europe out on nine, America press it home. You have to say hats off to Phil Mickelson for another crackerjack putt. They were not letting Rory McIlroy off after that shocker drive. That's two holes in a row for the US and suddenly the lesson that was being delivered is over and the pupils are fighting back.

  10. 'Spieth not missing from there'published at 15:49 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    3UP Reed/Spieth v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello (6)

    David Leadbetter
Leading golf coach on BBC Radio 5 live

That’s unusual to make him putt from there, but there is no point in giving it to him. The last time Jordan missed one of those he was about three years old.

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 2UP (9)

Thomas Pieters is down in the jungle, 'cheers Rory'.

He has leaves around his feet, tree roots, it's rough. He can get a club on this though and no matter how good the strike, he's going to need some luck. With a crack he makes contact and the ball lands deep on the green. A cracking escape. A reminder that was the original ball, no penalties.

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters

The Rory McIlroy drive has been found on the border parting North and South Dakota. They'll need to fizz an iron back into Minnesota.

  14. 'Rose confident'published at 15:45 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Walker/Z Johnson v Rose/Wood 1UP (7)

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

Europe deserved that one. That will give Justin Rose some confidence.

    Walker/Z Johnson v Rose/Wood 1UP (7)

Zach Johnson's birdie putt at seven bends too soon, meaning Rose has a putt to win the hole. Here he is, from about 12 feet... boom, Europe edge ahead in the penultimate match.

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 2UP (9)

    Hard hastImage source, Getty Images

Right, Phil Mickelson is on the tee so I'm getting the hard hat out and getting under the desk. He stares at the ball with the look of a man absolutely petrified inside. One thing I will say, he continues to go with driver despite his scary performance with the big dog.

It's into the fairway but then finds the rough.

Now then. Lefty has infected Rory McIlroy. He lets go of the club with his right hand and the ball is deep in the trees. "Let's hit a provisional," he says quickly.

Mickelson then tells Thomas Pieters to declare it's a provisional. "Thomas, say it's provisional." Pieters does so and then turns to the American: "Did I say that good?" "Yup," deadpans Phil.

The Belgian slams his drive into the trees. You didn't hit it good that's for sure. I'll update you on whether either ball is found shortly.

    A/S Walker/Z Johnson v Rose/Wood (6)

Jimmy Walker with a fine scramble at seven, after a wayward drive by partner Zach Johnson. Wood bang middle of the fairway and he's safely on the front. Putt-out between Johnson and Rose...

  18. Postpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    2UP Reed/Spieth v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello (5)

Cabrera-Bello plugged over at the sixth and is only able to bungle it back onto the fairway. Garcia with Europe's fourth at the sixth and it's OK, but not as good as it needed to be.

  19. USA up - Big miss...published at 15:37 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 2UP (9)

Oh Rory McIlroy. Where did that come from. The putter has been so hot but suddenly a cold snap on the ninth. After good approaches and missed puts it comes down to short tap ins to secure a halve. Rory misses his. Rubbish. Drop him. He's past his best.

Europe's talisman and Thomas Pieters still in control at the turn.

Brandt Snedeker - from my calculation he's made $31m on the course in his career - lovely swing and he walks after it instantly on eight. It drops from the sky like a stone to leave eight feet.

Up on nine both Rory McIlroy and Phil 'The Thrill' Mickelson hit the dancefloor nicely.
