  1. Europe uppublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 3UP (7)

Phil Mickelson draws some hollers from the masses as he fizzes a wedge into the seventh green, remember, Europe are in the splash here. Lefty gives Rickie Fowler 10ft for the win but Rory McIlroy gets in closer, so the US putt is pressured.

Fowler, he's been made to earn it by McIlroy for sure. He stands at the ball, steps away, stands over it again, steps away. Is this doubt we see? Those white trousers sit still, no flutters of wind. Starts it right, no break, stays right.

Thomas Pieters for the halve...a noise from the crowd distracts him. The Belgian, gathers his thoughts...in you go. Ba-ba-booey. Eat that America.

McIlroy shows his emotion, eyeballing the heckler. An escape from the water.

  3. 'Soft holes given away'published at 15:05 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    2UP Snedeker/Koepka v Stenson/Fitzpatrick (5)

    Des Smyth
Former Ryder Cup vice captain on BBC Radio 5 live

They are playing very nice golf but have given two soft holes away. They have handed holes to Americans and have to get down to work now.

  4. USA uppublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    2UP Spieth/Reed v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello (3)

The sight of Jordan Spieth with a putter in his hand is enough to give those of a European persuasion nightmares. He's holed another, this time on the par-five third, to put the US two up on the Spanish pair. Danger.

  5. Splash!published at 15:03 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 3UP (6)

I'll be honest, I'm already sick of writing about momentum. I was rubbish at physics in school and am not even sure how I'd define it. Still, I think this is a momentum moment.

Team Europe have been floating on air in this match but Thomas Pieters gives his ball too much air and finds the drink on seven, just as he did yesterday. Rickie Fowler hits the fairway.

  6. Postpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 3UP (6)

Thomas Pieters cannot convert from 20ft for birdie on six and the lead stays at three holes. Europe in complete control and dishing out a fine beating in the top match.

  7. 'Americans working hard'published at 14:59 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Walker/Z Johnson A/S Rose/Wood (4)

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

Jimmy Walker has had to make two nice par putts and I would say it's advantage Europe at this point. The Americans are working just a little bit harder.

Chris Wood, the second shot he hit on the third, he smashed a three wood from 285 on to the front of the green. Easy two putt for Europe.

  8. Spotless Fitzy...published at 14:58 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    2UP Snedeker/Koepka v Stenson/Fitzpatrick (5)

If Matt Fitzpatrick wins a major and the sponsorship deals roll in, he'd make a cracking ambassador for some kind of skincare company. Look at the young man, blemish free.

U-S-A! U-S-A! The cheers and chants tell us that Jimmy Walker (and his moustache) has done the bizo on the fourth green. You can't get a cigarette paper between these teams at the moment.

If you're having a Saturday on your sofa, pin this on the wall and it'll be just like being there. Beautiful.

  11. Postpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Walker/Z Johnson A/S Rose/Wood (3)

A brilliant flop from Zach Johnson threatens to drop into the hole, only to run on and still leave a ticklish putt back for par. Rose dinks from the fringe, close enough for a gimme. The US will need to hole for a half.

  12. Postpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    2UP Snedeker/Koepka v Stenson/Fitzpatrick (5)

The par-three fifth sucks both teams into trouble. Matt Fitzpatrick pulls right, Brooks Koepka pushes left. It takes good wedge play from Henrik Stenson to get close, Brandt Snedeker gets closer and it's halves all round.

  13. Postpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    3UP Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters (5)

Phil Mickelson has 100 yards and change between him and the cup, America's third shot on the sixth. He finds the green, some 25ft from the pin. Europe with the advantage again, much closer in. Could it be four up?

  14. Postpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Walker/Z Johnson A/S Rose/Wood (3)

This third match is starting to look pretty crucial, especially if the other three continue on the path they have begun. Currently tighter than John Daly's trousers, Chris Wood has just gone off the back of the green at the par-three fourth, while the US are in the bunker to the left.

  15. 'Not done too much wrong'published at 14:46 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    2UP Snedeker/Koepka v Stenson/Fitzpatrick (4)

    Des Smyth
Former Ryder Cup vice captain on BBC Radio 5 live

You don't want to go two down because they haven't done too much wrong. They have both played very nice golf.

  16. USA uppublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    2UP Snedeker/Koepka v Stenson/Fitzpatrick (4)

Henrik Stenson has a five footer to halve the fifth hole and not for the first time today he finds the task too much. A lip out, the ball racing off the cup at a right angle. Brooks Koepka and Brandt Snedeker embrace. They could be closing in on a second win.

  17. USA uppublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    1up Spieth/Reed v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello (2)

You just get the feeling that it will take something special for the Spaniards to hang with Spieth and Reed today. Rafa Cabrera-Bello misses the birdie putt, not such silliness from Spieth, whose putter is guided by laser. US one up.

    United States 5-3 Europe

    Carin Koch
Last year's European Solheim Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live

When you hit a bad drive you really want to hit it again. It’s the same with putting, it’s hard to get the feel. You might have a short putt and then the next one goes long.

Remember, players take alternate shots in the foursomes format. You can listen to Carin and the 5 live team, just click 'live coverage' at the top of this page.
