That Lee Westwood miss is catastrophic. The gap will surely now be three points overnight.
He was just over the length of his putter from the hole. You can line the golfing technicians up to tell me about putting strokes, misses like that on 17 and 18 are played out between the ears, I don't care what anyone says. In the most respectful manner possible, he has folded like a beach towel.

Stenson has chipped in at 16! Remarkable scenes, it's difficult to remember golf like it. And here's Reed with an eagle putt... doesn't make it, USA two up with two to play...

Former US Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 liveI'm in shock,I feel bad for Lee to not finish that off. I feel really bad for him, even though it was good for the United States. That is a huge swing.
Very seldom do you just get handed a hole but the Americans were handed the 17th, gift-wrapped, and said "go to 18 and see what you can do". We felt like this was going to go to 18 and it has.

Lee Westwood, one of the biggest putts you've probably ever faced. One practice swing, he's over it, just a few feet, it has to be...NO. An unbelievable miss.

Lee Westwood is in the middle of the fairway, Danny Willett is 15ft from the pin. Be aggressive Lee, you have to be. He whips the ball off the fine grass, eyes it up and down, beauty. An absolute beauty. Three feet left for birdie.
Ryan Moore is out of this, he chunks a chip nowhere. Europe are on the brink of salvaging a halved match. JB Holmes can't hole out so it comes down to Westwood's putt. We know what he did on 17...

Rose with his second at 16 and he finds sand. Reed starts walking after his ball immediately and what a shot that is, right into the guts of the green.

Kuchar to win the match from about six feet but misses to the right. Sergio for his birdie, also from about six feet, and he feathers it in. Mickelson, however, still has a putt for the match... in it goes...

Some slim hope of a halved hole on 18 as JB Holmes and Ryan Moore find sand off the tee. These sand traps are generous though. Danny Willett or Lee Westwood need magic.
Hole: 18
Yards: 432
Par: 4
A hole where players will trust the yardage book as hitting uphill means they cannot see the surface of the green. Tee shots will not run too far on this slope, so it's a solid iron needed to fire up toward the waiting crowds. A place in history beckons, don't mess it up.

Kaymer on tee at the par-three 17th and he's safely on. Garcia has stiffed it to six feet. Mickelson takes aim and almost gets inside Garcia, that could be the jab that set up the knockout blow. Kuchar almost matches them...

Shout loud enough and Lee Westwood will hear you Michael. Keep it clean. Speaking of clean, that water looks a little dicey. Chocolate brown is never a good thing.

Former US Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 liveThat was a great hole for Ryan because he was the only guy in the hole. It wasn't a team event all of a sudden.
This hole completely changed, when JB hit it in the water you thought 'advantage Europe', but then we are in the hole first.
The tide turned on this hole right here. That was an unbelievable turn right there. Wow, huge.

It has to go in Lee Westwood. He stands, white glove stuffed in his back pocket, the stroke is tame, the put is lame, America lead, one up, one to play. Suddenly, the scoreboard looks too red. Darren Clarke has sunglasses on and they are probably hiding a sad set of eyes.
