    Spieth/Reed v Garcia/Cabrera-Bello

Europe's all-Spanish combo couldn't look more relaxed, as if they are taking a Saturday morning stroll. They are on the first tee, set to take on the US frat boys.

    Walker/Z Johnson v Rose/Wood

How about this for your first shot in the Ryder Cup? Chris Wood is under a tree, scooting the ball low, running it on to the dance floor. It doesn't stick, but it's a helluvan effort from that spot.

    Walker/Z Johnson v Rose/Wood

Lemmy Walker from the bunker, shielding his eyes from the sun. Some clowns shout something indecipherable as he makes contact - do they think these things up overnight? He likes it. On the green.

Rory McIlroy twirls the club after his follow through on three, it's just a lay up on the par five. Back on two, Brandt Snedeker is in the fairway with a rock solid drive.

Henrik Stenson has been on the protein shakes again, lashing a drive down the fairway. That's frightening. He'd clear the fence at my driving range. Show off.

It takes something special to knock the Premier League's Saturday 15:00 BST kick-offs off the prime billing on BBC Radio 5 live, but when Europe meet the United States in the Ryder Cup it is just that.

Coverage of Saturday's action from Hazeltine will begin at 14:30 BST right here - or by clicking the coverage box at the top of this page, with the football switching to 5 live sports extra.

  8. 'Tight from here on out'published at 14:08 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    United States 5-3 Europe

USA Ryder Cup captain Davis Love talking to Sky Sports: "It's tough to not put Dustin Johnson out there every match but we are also looking to Sunday. We all want to be ready, there are 12 points on offer on Sunday and that is what we are talking about. We need to be rested.

"We know Rory very, very well and there are no hard feelings. I'm not going to tell Patrick to stop shushing or Rory to stop bowing. I bowed to him on the range this morning - it's all in good fun.

"There will be momentum changes between now and Sunday. We need to go out and have fun, enjoy playing and let our game come out. It will be tight from here on out."

    Walker/Z Johnson v Rose/Wood

Rose with the honour, hush from the thousands gathered around the first box. That's left, almost tangoing with a camera man. Johnson, shades even at this early hour, skews it right and into sand, but the lie looks OK. Nervy.

    1UP Snedeker/Koepka v Stenson/Fitzpatrick (1)

If it's possible, I think the roars are getting louder. Henrik Stenson's ears are ringing and his blood is boiling. He's left with eight feet for par and to halve the first but can't make it. As the ball passes the hole there's an almighty noise. The Americans pounce on the vulnerable, it's the Ryder Cup after all.

Despite being behind trees in the fairway off the tee, Brooks Koepka and Brandt Snedeker have a point on the board.

    Walker/Z Johnson v Rose/Wood

Match three. Justin Rose and Chris Wood, in that European beigey/greeny/brown are on the way to the first tee. An all-English combo. They are up against the square-featured Zach Johnson and Jimmy Walker, who is sporting a rascal moustache that makes him look like Lemmy.

    Mickelson/Fowler v McIlroy/Pieters 1UP (2)

Rory McIlroy does what Rickie Fowler can't, dropping in a mid-range birdie putt. Lovely weight from McIlroy. He continues where he left off yesterday. The putter is hotter than sand on a Portuguese beach.

  17. Blow for blow...published at 14:00 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Up on two we continue to see the two teams egg one another on. Rickie Fowler sets up a birdie putt for Phil Mickelson (who for once found the fairway off the tee). Thomas Pieters betters it, a nice bit of back spin showcases his control and Rory McIlroy will have a birdie putt.

On the first, Brand Snedeker is in trouble thanks to Brooks Koepka's drive. The Nashville-born player negotiates some trees after a lot of thinking time and finds the green to huge roars. Magic little shot. Henrik Stenson from the first cut, tricky, too much on it and he's in the fringe at the back of the green.

This mob are in the house again. They must camp there as they get front row seats again. Maybe they left a towel on their seat last night. Claimed.
