    Moore/Holmes v Willett/Westwood 1UP (7)

I am reliably informed neither Danny Willett or Lee Westwood have been in the lead in a match at the 2016 Ryder Cup until now. They have been pacing themselves. Watch them kick for home like Mo Farah now...

  2. Europe up - Westy magicpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Moore/Holmes v Willett/Westwood 1UP (7)

Danny Willett's Ryder Cup week appears to be changing. Not only has he just pumped a ball into water - only for it to catch a rock and bounce back onto grass - but partner Lee Westwood appears to be fully woken up from a 36-hour slumber.

Willett carried Martin Kaymer yesterday and Westy in the early exchanges today, his back must be in pieces. Time for some help from Mr Westwood who drains one from distance on the seventh, spinning into a meaty fist pump to celebrate. That's the stuff Lee, that's the stuff indeed.

  3. 'Poor putting in Sergio's head'published at 20:52 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    2UP Mickelson/Kuchar v Kaymer/Garcia (6)

    David Leadbetter
Leading golf coach on BBC Radio 5 live

It was not a good putt from Sergio. Martin is not playing particularly well either and to miss a few short putts like that, they are gimmes for the American for halves.

Sergio's putting, no question, is the fall in his game. He's very suspect on the greens. It's probably more in the head, a confidence thing.

His ball hitting is one of the best for many years.

USA dodge a bullet as Garcia jabs at another putt on six, the hosts stay two up heading towards the short par-four seventh.

  5. Kaboom!published at 20:48 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    D Johnson/Koepka v McIlroy/Pieters 3UP (8)

A female fan screams "ooohhh Rory," as he smashes through the 300 yard barrier on nine. The "fore right" scream comes for Thomas Pieters and Dustin Johnson. Brooks Koepka keeps it straight. These guys are hitting the paint of the ball.

  7. 'Big mistake from USA'published at 20:45 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    D Johnson/Koepka v McIlroy/Pieters 3UP (8)

    Carin Koch
Last year's European Solheim Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live

That is a big mistake from the Americans, being on the green and both three putting. You don't want to see that in this format.

    D Johnson/Koepka v McIlroy/Pieters 3UP

Slurp, slurp. Ryan Moore finds water on seven, Danny Willett and Lee Westwood have an opening. Rory McIlroy will putt for the hole on eight, that's not even close and it looks like we will see that stretch halved. But what's this? Brooks Koepka's knees start knocking and he misses. Thomas Pieters takes full advantage. A key moment as we move to the ninth.

"Ole, ole, ole, ole," rings out around the green as McIlroy serves up a tentative fist pump.

    A/S Reed/Spieth v Rose/Stenson (5)

Rose gets his line and speed all wrong at the fifth and America should get back to all square. Indeed it does. The crowd getting seriously frothy now, as news reaches me European vice-captain Ian Poulter has challenged an American fan and McIlroy has had another ejected for some fruity language.

  11. Atmosphere staying on the right sidepublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Tom Fordyce
    Chief sports writer in Minnesota

Mid-afternoon and at peak temperature across Hazeltine, the atmosphere still pumped but only rarely straying into the unpleasant. With 50,000 in and throats thirsty you have to expect some spice, and missed European putts are certainly being cheered. Yet it's still more Western Terrace at Headingley pre tea interval rather than Chelsea v Leeds 1973.

  12. Postpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Reed/Spieth v Rose/Stenson 1UP (4)

Reed with a neat chip at the fifth, should make birdie from there. Rose with an iffy chip himself, and Spieth's isn't any better.

  13. All about the drivers...published at 20:38 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    United States 6½-5½ Europe

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

What a difference in matchplay, all hitting drivers. In the Ryder Cup it's drivers!

    A/S /Holmes v Willett/Westwood (6)

Lee Westwood looks a lot better with the putter today. In truth he couldn't have looked much worse than yesterday's showing. He'd have been better using a garden rake on Friday. Good stuff from Westy here though, holing out on six from five feet when he knew a miss would have given JB Holmes and Ryan Moore the lead.

    8th holeImage source, .

The par-three eighth next up for this marquee match. The green holds a nasty slope near the front and Thomas Pieters catches it, his ball rolls back away from the flag. I think Rory is going with an eight iron perhaps...over the flag and solid. None of the four stick it close. Who can conjure something?

    2UP Mickelson/Kuchar v Kaymer/Garcia (5)

At the fifth, Kuchar for birdie from about 12 feet... in it goes, America move two ahead...

  17. Don't mess with Poultspublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

From the pictures we are getting, it seems Ian Poulter has been having a go at a supporter for heckling. It's not like Poults ever stoked the fire in the event eh?

  18. 'Rory like a snake...'published at 20:27 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    D Johnson/Koepka v McIlroy/Pieters 2UP (7)

    Des Smyth
Former Ryder Cup vice captain on BBC Radio 5 live

Rory was like a snake. He was laying in the grass there and someone stood on his tail, and up he bounced.

    D Johnson/Koepka v McIlroy/Pieters 2UP (7)

Unbelievable stuff from Rory McIlroy. He's really stepped up to the plate in the last 24 hours. He watches Thomas Pieters three putt, meaning it's all about his own birdie attempt. Sumptuous stroke from 15ft and it's in. Talk about taking responsibility.

It's now Brooks Koepka to save the hole, this would be a right steal from Europe, not to be though, Brooks to the rescue.

    Reed/Spieth v Rose/Stenson 1UP (4)

Mickelson's second at the fifth, chipping on, leaves it about five feet short, lovely touch. back at the fourth, Spieth taps in for par and that's holed halved.
