The Kisner cruise continues, still six under and only three left now. Points has got it back to four under with four to play and Grayson Murray has also reached minus four after a birdie at his opening hole of the day.

    -3 Fowler; +3 McIlroy, Rahm

McIlroy threatens the hole with his neat little chip and run but he knocks in the return from three feet for a much needed birdie to get back to three over. Fowler has a chance to go to four under but it slips by on the right from six feet.

  4. Could McIlroy miss the cut?published at 17:48 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

    Iain Carter
BBC Sport golf correspondent at Quail Hollow

A fourth missed cut in his last seven majors is on the horizon for Rory McIlroy. He's dropped four shots in his last five holes.

We've seen this kind of destructive streak from McIlroy before, most notably in his first round at the Open Championship, where he was five over after six before finishing strongly.

If he makes it to the weekend, he could still be a factor this week - but making the cut is the priority for McIlroy now. He's got three to play, and he's four over par.

  5. Postpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

McIlroy and Rahm are in almost identical places after their second shots at the par five, pin high but 30 odd yards away in the rough. Fowler flirted with the water on the right but he's in the sand.

  6. Leaderboard updatepublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

    Leader: Kisner -6 (14)

    -4 Olesen

-3 Fowler (15), Points (13), Hun An (15) Murray, Woodland, Koepka, Stroud, Day, D. Johnson

    Selected others: -2 Casey, -1 Fleetwood, +1 Spieth, +2 Kuchar (14) +3 Rahm (15), +4 McIlroy (15)

  7. Postpublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

Three holes left for Rory and the par five seventh represents an ideal opportunity to put himself the right side of the cut line. After a long wait for the fairway to clear he has hit a perfect tee shot, carrying it 304 yards.

    +5 Rose (15)

Despair for Rose, his par putt from three feet slides by. He is staring at it incredulously but it is still above ground Justin. Five over now, although the projected cut has gone to plus four again. Playing partner Kuchar makes a fifth successive par and he should be safe enough on two over.

DA Points has dropped a shot so Thorbjorn Olesen is Kisner's nearest challenger on four under. The Dane does not begin his second round until 19:00 BST.

Some dark clouds over yonder as Rose plays to the par three sixth, 243 yards today. He is through the back of the green and faces a tricky up and down. A bogey here would leave him very much up against it.

Andrew Priestley: McIlroy's issue is that he is constantly too aggressive. He always seems to be on the attack, he needs to manage his rounds better. #bbcgolf, external

    -3 Fowler (15); +3 Rahm (15)

Fowler calmly slots in a six footer for par to remain very much in contention at three under, while Rahm's two-footer sneaks in the side door so he's on the cut line.

    +4 McIlroy (15)

But it is looking very dicey for Rory, his par putt from four feet lips out and he is plus four, with the projected cut moving to three over.

    Rose +4 (14)

Another superb save from Rose, holing an awkward putt across the slope from eight feet at the fifth, his 14th, to stay at four over.

  15. Postpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 11 August 2017

At the top, Kisner continues his serene progress, still six under with only five holes to play. DA Points is still four under. Who would have predicted those two at the top?

Rory has missed three of the last six cuts in majors but he's not quite done yet Stuart. However, he, Rahm and Fowler have all missed the green at the par three sixth, their 15th hole today.

    -3 Fowler (14)

Fowler, who took seven at this fifth hole yesterday, is a greenside bunker but plays out to around three feet and calmly knocks it in for par. Anyone got any money on Rickie to land a maiden major?

    +3 Rahm, McIlroy (14)

Warm sunshine out in North Carolina now and the greens are quickening up. Rahm and McIlroy both find the fairway bunker, Rahm's par putt from eight feet slides by and he is three over, dangerously close to the halfway axe. McIlroy, from a few inches closer, misses to the right. Anxious times for the talented duo. Now 71 players are at plus three or better, the top 70 qualify.

    Rose +4 (13)

Right on cue, Rose rolls one in from six feet and he's back to four over with five holes of his second round remaining.
