    For a while Europe offered a glimmer of hope they might complete a historic comeback but in the end the US powered to victory.

    Europe's beaten captain Annika Sorenstram speaking to Sky Sports: "I am extremely proud. We fought so hard. It wasn't easy coming in today we decided to give it all we had and fight to the end and we did that. I want to congratulate the US team they played awesome golf.

    "I am very honoured (to be captain). We had a great leadership team and players to work with and I couldn't have asked for anymore.

    "I am not someone to look back. We did everything we could. The team was extremely helpful and cooperative. Sometimes you are outplayed and that is what happened this week.

    A disappointed but proud Catriona Matthew has just told me she would be thrilled to lead Europe at the next Solheim Cup at Gleneagles. The Scot finished up winning three out of four points in a match where she had been destined to be a captain's assistant. Meanwhile interim Ladies European Tour boss Mark Lichtenhein says he has had very helpful meetings with the LPGA this week regarding boosting the faltering LET circuit.

    The Europe team, dressed all in yellow and blue, following their player. The result is confirmed but Pedersen is still playing for pride.

    They have lost this Solheim Cup but the players and support staff are walking arm-in-arm down the 16th fairway to support Emily Pedersen in the final match of the day.

    The European flag is still waving.

I've got a great group of gals. We had great preparation. I tried to not make things too regimented. We had lots of banter and played lots of ping pong."
