    "Mission Impossible".

No Tom Cruise is not in town for this one. That is how Europe captain Annika Sorenstam described the task her side has ahead today.

The Swede has also given out bracelets engraved with messages to each of her players this week and today is no different.

“She believed she could and so she did.” That's what the European players will read today if they look down to their wrists during these singles matches.

“I’m going to tell them that every ‘she’ is every player,” Sorenstam said. “You just have to go out there and believe in themselves, focus on their own match and don’t look at any leaderboards. Like you’re getting in a boxing ring with an opponent, just punch ‘em.”

How will that inspire the Europeans?

Starting the day 5½-2½ behind, Europe fared better in the opening foursomes on Saturday although failed to cut the US's deficit.

The pairs of Anna Nordqvist and Georgia Hall and Karine Icher and Catriona Matthew both claimed wins as the points were shared.

Cristie Kerr became the US' record points scorer with a victory alongside Lexi Thompson over Carolina Masson and Jodi Ewart Shadoff while Paula Creamer and Austin Ernst earned the hosts' other win.

But in the afternoon the US secured what looks to be a trophy-winning grip.

Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Anna Nordqvist won their fourball 4&2, but the US took the remaining three matches on Saturday afternoon.
