Regardless of the overall outcome, the Thompson versus Nordqvist contest will be remembered as one of the greatest Solheim Cup singles. Thompson recovered from missing a tiddler on the first, shanking on the second and trailing four down at the turn with a blistering back nine. But Nordqvist, Europe's best player, made a magnificent birdie to snatch a dramatic half at the last. Brilliant stuff.

Creamer v Hall All square (After 17)

All eyes on Creamer v Hall now.

The American to go first with the second shots and she finds the heart of the green. That's a fine shot under the circumstances. She'll have around 10 or 15 feet.

Hall - with eight iron in hand - follows Creamer to around the same area but her ball comes to a stop further away than her opponent.

Hall to go first. All square on the 18th green...

    Thompson v Nordqvist - Halved

Anna Nordqvist speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm just tired and speechless. I've played really well but I was really impressed with Lexi. But I'm just tired now. I'm happy with my game. I've been suffering from glandular fever but I need to rest for a few days now."

Creamer v Hall All square (After 17)

We're going to have another match head to the 18th. England's Georgia Hall is still battling against Paula Creamer. They're all square. Europe need this one. Can the 21-year-old deliver?

    Kerr 1UP v Reid (After 16)

Mission Impossible has just got even harder for Europe now. Where can they look for some blue on the leaderboard?

They need wins and fast. Mel Reid holes a great putt to halve the deficit against Cristie Kerr. Can that inspire the Europeans?

    Breaking

    US 11-6 Europe

The crowds are packed around this 18th green. Pressure on Thompson. She has been solid as a rock on the back nine but the heart must be pumping now.

    Up she steps...

    No. Thompson misses.

What a match. The players high five and then embrace.

A fair result but the United States edge closer.

    Thompson 1UP v Nordqvist (After 17)

This is one of the best rounds of matchplay golf I have ever seen.

Nordqvist, who has seen her four shot lead wiped out, hits her approach right at the flag within a couple of inches on 18. Thompson is about 20 feet away and has conceded that Nordqvist putt.

That means the American must make this putt to half the hole and win the match...

    Thompson 1UP v Nordqvist (After 17)

"Great shot," says an American fan as Thompson tees off. The camera focuses in on the American. I doubt she can believe she's in this position on the last. I can't. I thought Europe would have this one wrapped up by the 15th.

Nordqvist just cuts the corner of the fairway to edge ahead after the first shot.

The TV pictures have just replayed that moment on the front nine when Thompson was struggling badly, four down after the first four holes. The difference is quite amazing.

    Thompson 1UP v Nordqvist (After 17)

Ooooooooo. That was close, very close, but for once Thompson misses.

US captain Juli Inkster thought it was in. She was almost celebrating.

Thompson and Nordqvist head onto 18 with the match still alive. Just.

    Thompson 1UP v Nordqvist (After 16)

It's not there. Not the cleanest contact from off the putting surface and Nordqvist will have to putt again. This is no formality in fact on second viewing it is about 10 feet. This must drop.

Not even close. It started right and stayed right.

Thompson will have a short putt to win the match...

    Thompson 1UP v Nordqvist (After 16)

Back on 16, Georgia Hall has holed a tricky putt to stay all square with Paula Creamer going onto 17.

Those two will be watching this Thompson/Nordqvist match from the tee.

Thompson up first. Delightful. A chip from the front of the green runs and runs, up and over a hump in the putting surface and to around six feet. I doubt Nordqvist will give her that one.

Here comes the Swede. Putting from the edge. Does she have to hole this for Europe to have any chance?

    Thompson 1UP v Nordqvist (After 16)

Anna Nordqvist just doesn't know what has hit her. She gets a consoling pat on the shoulder from her team captain.

The Swede has been pretty solid on the back nine but has been unable to cope with the eagles and birdies of Lexi Thompson.

On to the 17th. Both players miss the green. Thompson is short. Nordqvist is left. Advantage Europe, just.

    Thompson 1UP v Nordqvist (After 16)

Thompson just cannot miss. You might not even need me to tell you she has holed it. I think I heard the cheers all the way from Iowa.

Thompson is eight under on the back nine and is one-up with two to play.

All of a sudden the United States are up in four of the top five matches. The fat lady is warming up those vocal chords...

Thompson v Nordqvist All square (After 15)

Can Anna Nordqvist be the first to bring about that change? She desperately needs to fight off this charge from world number two Lexi Thompson.

The Swede is first up on the 16th green. Can she make birdie to pile on the pressure?

Not with that putt. It drifts wide to the left. Thompson up next. She has holed everything on this back nine...

Lang v Hull All square (After 10)

Europe need a change at the top of the leaderboard. The top two matches are all square and the three below are in the United States' favour.

Further back on the course Charley Hull has let her lead slip against Brittany Lang.

The United States could wrap this up pretty soon.

    Creamer A/S Hall (After 14)

Paula Creamer sinks a putt of about 25 foot and there's a huge roar from the crowd as that brings her back to all square with Georgia Hall.

It is all going the United States way. In match number five Angel Yin goes two up on Karine Icher in match number five.

That is huge from Lexi Thompson, holing a monster for eagle on 15 to level it with Anna Nordqvist having been four down at the turn. The Swede has done very little wrong. It is an epic contest at the top of the order.
