Thompson v Nordqvist All square (After 15)

It is wide from Europe's Nordqvist. It was close, in fact I think the Swede thought it was in, but not close enough.

Europe were 4UP in this one on the ninth hole and now it is all square. Truly remarkable from Thompson. She can do no wrong at the moment. She is seven under for the back nine.

This crucial first match looked all over in Europe's favour but now it is all going the American's way.

    Thompson v Nordqvist 1 UP (After 14)

    Oh. My. Word.

Lexi Thompson take a bow. She has holed 35 footer on the 15th for eagle! What a come back this is. Anna Nordqvist is now faced with her own eagle putt that remarkably she needs just for a half...

    Creamer v Hall 1UP (After 13)

Paula Creamer is in a bit of trouble. She completely misjudges her chip and the ball comes back down the hill. I think Georgia Hall might have got in her head as she looks disturbed. She chips her second onto the green but she has to get this in just to half the hole, but it goes two feet long. Georgia Hall, who was two down after three holes, is now one up. Is this the momentum change Europe need?!

The standard is terrific; putts are flying in all over the place. If the US go on to win this, as expected, we can identify the Friday fourball whitewash as the decisive session. Europe are putting together a spirited singles display, probably will not be enough, though.

    Piller 1UP v Parker (After 9)

Gerina Piller has a putt of about seven feet to win the hole and she rattles it in. A fist pump and a high five with her caddie and she marches on to the ninth hole. She's won two of the last three and is now 1UP.

    3UP Lewis v Matthew (After 11)

That top match may be a battle in which for now Europe are clinging on but there is a block below that will really worry Annika Sorenstram.

The US are up in matches three, four and five and if they stay as they are then the hosts will be on the brink.

  8. Postpublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 20 August 2017

    Nordqvist 1 UP v Thompson (After 13)

Anna looks nervous as she steps up for her putt which is about 11 foot. She looks at the hole and approaches the ball but something in the crowd unsettles her. So she steps away from the ball, re-groups and strokes it into the hole.

Lexi now has to hole her putt of 10 foot to remain one down. The pressure is on. She looks nervous and like Anna steps away from the ball, but like Anna she puts it in too. Wow. Two brilliant putts.

It's game on between the top seeds from Europe and the United States.

    Wie v Masson 4UP (After 10)

    Iain Carter
BBC Sport golf correspondent at Des Moines Golf and Country Club

Michelle Wie is feeling the wrath of Caroline Masson. The German has played far better this week than he record of three defeats in three matches would suggest. Masson has now made three birdies and an eagle to go four up after ten holes, providing just the performance asked of her by skipper Sorenstam.

  10. Nordqvist's lead cut from four to onepublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 20 August 2017

    Nordqvist 1 UP v Thompson (After 12)

Anna Nordqvist has a tricky putt of about 12 feet to halve the hole but she hits it about two feet long. She's let a lead of four shots somehow reduce to one. Let's hope she can steady herself and regain some composure over these final five holes.

  11. Postpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 20 August 2017

    Wie v Masson 3 UP (After 9)

Michelle Wie has a four-foot birdie putt to halve the hole. She needs this otherwise she'll start the back nine four down. The American strokes and the ball slows as it approaches, will it go in?... Yes. Masson remains 3 up.

    Hall A/S Creamer (After 11)

Georgia Hall has a 6ft putt to level it up with Paula Creamer. She measures it up and smoothly rolls it in. It's all square.

    Thompson v Nordqvist 2 UP (After 11)

Anna Nordqvist two putts giving Lexi a chance to salvage a hole that was seemingly Europe's, she steadies herself, and strokes it in. Impressive save there from Lexi,

  14. Postpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 20 August 2017

    Thompson v Nordqvist 2 UP (After 11)

Lexi Thompson's ball is close to a tree. She just has enough room to swing her club and gets a good connection, landing the ball just onto the edge of the green. Anna's shot lands in the middle of the green.

  15. Postpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 20 August 2017

    Thompson v Nordqvist 2 UP (After 11)

Lexi Thompson's heart must be racing after that. Can she control it? No!

The American goes wild off the tee. It goes right, way right. The ball looks to have come to a stop just in front of a tree trunk. That could be a terrible lie.

What of her opponent Nordqvist? Ice cool. Straight down the middle of the fairway. Over to you Lexi.

Paula Creamer and Lexi Thompson have injected much needed energy into the home crowds - Creamer holed an excellent putt for birdie at the 10th moments after Thompson's wedge for eagle disappeared into the hole on the 11th.

  18. Eagle for Thompsonpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 20 August 2017

    Thompson v Nordqvist 2 UP (After 11)

That's the biggest cheer we've heard all day and no wonder.

Lexi Thompson has just holed her approach shot on the 11th from 100 yards. The crowd goes wild, Thompson has her arms in the air, her caddy has his hands over his mouth in shock.

Even Anna Nordqvist knows that eagle was special and gives her opponent a high five.

The Swede still gas a two shot advantage in that crucial first match but that lead has been halved in the last two holes.

    1UP Kang v Pedersen (After 2)

Let's not get too excited. Two good putts in the late matches as Danielle Kang moves up on Emily Pedersen and Lizette Salas takes the advantage over Jodi Ewart Shadoff.

The American crowd like that. I hadn't used that USA up graphic for a while.

  20. Is this the turning point?published at 17:57 British Summer Time 20 August 2017

The players are going at it on the course and there's even some light-hearted competition between the two captains.

Annika Sorenstram and Juli Inkster have just had a dance off on the first tee. The song of choice? ABBA's Dancing Queen. Surely there's some advantage for the Swede there?
