We are now into the bottom half of the singles draw. Worryingly for the Europeans, their six players in this section have mustered only one and half points so far compared with 11 from their American counterparts.

    2UP Creamer v Hall (After 4)

Paula Creamer is pumped. She is using every trick in the book to get the crowd behind her up against rookie Georgia Hall.

The American doubles her lead with a birdie on the third hole and keeps it steady on the fourth to stay two ahead.

Back on the first, Michelle Wie misses a short putt to win the hole to let Caroline Masson escape all square after one.

As Iain says there was a fair bit of rain over night and as a result the players have been able to get plenty of action on the ball on the greens.

There is also threat of some nasty weather later this evening which is why the final day has got under way earlier than originally scheduled.

The Des Moines Golf and Country Club course is playing much softer today. There was a huge thunderstorm overnight and approach shots are spinning back much more than they did yesterday.

    US 10½-5½ Europe

"On the tee from Hawaii, Michelle Wie". Six matches now under way with 'the Big Wiesy' taking on Caroline Masson.

The US are in navy today with Europe in the classic blue and yellow. The golf course looks a picture under blue skies. The leaderboard and scoreline do not from Europe's point of view...

US skipper Juli Inkster has abandoned her station on the first tee to join Lexi Thompson on the fourth fairway to offer much needed encouragement. Thompson has been all over the place in the top match losing the first three holes to Anna Nordqvist.

    Thompson v Nordqvist 4 UP (After 4)

The only match where the US are struggling is the first one where Lexi Thompson is three down on Anna Nordqvist. USA captain Juli Inkster has caught up with her player and is giving her a hug on the fairway.

Will that spur her into action?

Nope. Nordqvist is flying. Four holes won out of four. The Swede is dismantling the highest-ranked player in the Solheim Cup.

    1 UP Kerr v Reid (After 2)

More red. Cristie Kerr moves ahead of Mel Reid.

Juli Inkster is loving it. A big thumbs up to the crowd. There are five matches out there. Three of them are in favour of the US.

They only need three-and-a-half points to win remember.

    1 UP Lewis v Matthew (After 1)

Nordqvist is flying but there is a bit too much red below for Europe's liking.

Stacy Lewis has moved one up on Scotland's Catriona Matthew on the first. Remember Matthew was only down to be a non-playing vice-captain this week until Suzann Pettersen pulled out with injury.

Bad news on the third too. Paula Creamer moves two up on rookie Georgia Hall. Creamer gives a "come on" and a fist pump to the home crowd. Feisty stuff...

    Thompson v Nordqvist 3 UP (After 3)

Things are getting better and better for Anna Nordqvist as she moves three up after three holes with her opponent Lexi Thompson missing another short-ish putt.

Europe could not have asked for any more from their leading player. It looks even better when you consider she has been suffering with glandular fever in the run up to this year;s tournament.

Lexi Thompson and Cristie Kerr are unbeaten as a pair this week with two and half points out of three, but individually each has shown early signs of nerves. Both missed short putts on the opening hole. Kerr was walking after her's in trademark fashion and looked stunned when it lipped out. Thompson's putting stroke looked shaky again as she missed on the third. Hope for Europe?

Kerr v Reid All square (After 1)

Plenty of action and movement on the leaderboard early on. The packed grandstand on the first tee are well into it. US captain Juli Inkster was getting them pumped before play but she won't like this one bit.

Cristie Kerr has the chance to move one up on the first hole against England's Mel Reid but misses a very short putt.

Kerr thought it was in. She was walking after it. The hole gets a good stare as a result. Nerves early from the Americans?

    Thompson v Nordqvist 2 UP (After 2)

Many of you will remember Lexi Thompson as the player who was in tears after receiving a four-shot penalty at the first major of 2017, the ANA Inspiration, a few months back.

A major winner in 2014 she will be will be seen as a banker on the US team and has won two-and-a-half points this week.

She is struggling on the second hole though and as a result Anna Nordqvist has two putts for a two-hole lead. The European's first effort swings around the cup but she taps in and marches to the third with the perfect start.

Georgia Hall's inexperience was evident on that first hole. The Dorset 21-year-old encouraged the crowd to be at maximum volume when she hit her tee shot, but sent it into the rough. Thereafter she three putted the opening green to hand opponent Paula Creamer an easy win - the last thing Europe needed.

    (1 UP) Creamer v Hall (After 1)

Hmmmm. As I said Georgia Hall has been very impressive this week winning two of Europe's 5½ points but she falls behind early.

A bogey on the first and not the start she was after.

    US 10½-5½ Europe

    Iain Carter
BBC Sport golf correspondent at Des Moines Golf and Country Club

Wearing a bright yellow and blue viking hat, European captain Annika Sorenstem said that last night's team meeting was "so inspiring." The Swedish skipper added that Europe have "the best team spirit I've ever known." But Sorenstam admitted: "We need to play some good golf and need some luck as well."

    Creamer v Hall

With early wins needed or bust for Europe it is little surprise they have packed the front matches this afternoon. US captain Juli Inkster has done the same so we have some tasty matches up top.

England's 21-year-old Georgia Hall has impressed this week and is in the second match against Paula Creamer.

The youngster is loving it out there despite the deficit. She plays to the crowd on the tee, asking for more and more from the European support.

Not the best start though. Hall finds the rough but Creamer is in prime position on the fairway.

    Thompson v Nordqvist 1 UP (After 1)

And it is good news on the first green.

US' Lexi Thompson finds the green with her second shot on this par four and has what looks like an easy putt for birdie.

Pressure on Nordqvist then. She needs to hole this 10-footer. And does! A clench of a fist from the Swede.

Over to Thompson. This is regulation right? No! The American misses. Europe one up on the first.

    Nordqvist vs Thompson

Right. That's enough build-up. Let's get out on the course.

The first match is already under way and it's a biggie. The match sees highest ranked players on either side, Anna Nordqvist and Lexi Thompson, go head-to-head.

One thing is for sure, Europe need a result from this one.

The players received a deafening reception as their names were called on the tee. Plenty of "U.S.A. U.S.A" but there are a fair few Europeans out there too.

12 matches, nine points needed for Europe. Easy, right?
