That is a huge mistake. You can't go in there on that hole.

    Rose -11, Woodland -13 (6)

Now then, what have we here.....

Gary Woodland finds the bunker at the short par-three seventh while Justin Rose is on the dance floor. Big chance to reduce the arrears?

  3. Birdie for Scottpublished at 23:48 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Scott -9, Schauffele -8 (12)

Adam Scott is quietly going about his business away from the furore that follows the leaders. He's just made his SIXTH birdie of the day, and he's only played 12 holes.

The Australian moves to nine under par.

  4. Birdie for Rosepublished at 23:47 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Rose -11, Woodland -13 (6)

Argggghhhh. Close. So close to an eagle for Justin Rose who slides by from about 20 feet. that looked in all the way.

Still he'll pull a stroke back on his playing partner and leader Gary Woodland, as he snaffles up a birdie.

Woodland, can't do better than par after squirting his chip 15 feet past.

    Koepka -11, Reavie -7 (7)

Spot of bother for Brooks Koepka. His approach to the eighth green is lagging some and anchors down in a patch of rough flanking the bunker. He's already made one miraculous recovery today...

    Hovland -4 (F)

What a fantastic tournament Viktor Hovland has had. He birdies the last to finish on four under par for the weekend that should make him the leading amateur... the 21-year-old Norwegian will turn professional next week. Watch this space...

    Rose -10, Woodland -13 (5)

Go on, go on. That's nice from Justin Rose who chases his second shot on to the green from about 235 yards.

    Eagle chance coming up.

Gary Woodland who has taken a slightly more conservative approach, with an iron off the tee has got a chip on from about ten yards off the front of the green, but needs to land this just right, to get close.

It's the sort of shot that makes a recreational golfer break out in a cold sweat.

    Koepka -11, Reavie -7 (7)

Whiskers. That whistled past the hole and was a fraction away from dropping for Brooks Koepka at the seventh but he has to settle for par.

    Rose -10, Woodland -13 (5)

Justin Rose made an eagle at the sixth in his first round. He could probably do with another right now.

He's certainly going about it the right way as he cracks his tee shot about 285 yards.

    Rose -10, Woodland -13 (5)

Close but no cigar for Justin Rose on the par-three fifth. He runs his birdie putt up to around 10 inches from 30 feet.

Gary Woodland has a 10-footer for birdie, but can't convert. He's looking comfortable at the minute, I wonder if he's heard the roars accompanying Brooks Koepka yet?

    Koepka -11, Reavie -6 (6)

Brooks Koepka's birdie run comes to an end at the sixth as he finds a greenside bunker and duffs his sand shot slightly. It makes the dancefloor, but leaves him a long-range birdie putt and the American is a few rotations short. Par it is.

  12. McIlroy climbspublished at 23:30 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Oosthuizen -9, McIlroy -6 (7)

Rory McIlroy is channeling final-day Tiger Woods circa 2000 at Pebble Beach with his head to toe beige outfit. He could do with some of that turn-of-the-century Woods inspiration... and gets it at the par-three seventh with a tee shot that almost runs its way in. Back-to-back birdies it is for the Northern Irishman.

    Scott -8, Schauffele -8 (10)

Adam Scott is lingering. The Australian has moved to eight under after birdies through nine and 10 - Xander Schauffele has also crept up to eight under with a birdie of his own, both are five under for the day.

    Rose -10, Woodland -13 (4)

Woooaaahhhh. Justin Rose's birdie putt from 20 feet horseshoes out. So nearly perfect. Par it is.

    Rose -10, Woodland -13 (3)

Justin Rose has found more trouble on the fourth, in the thick stuff just left of the putting surface.

He's pitched on but he'll be going some to make birdie from about 20 feet on the right fringe.

Gary Woodland, knocks on in two and then gets up and won. Safe as houses that par.

    Koepka -11, Reavie -6 (5)

A win today would put Brooks Koepka level on US Open titles with Tiger Woods (3) and he'd have as many majors as Phil Mickelson (5). Not bad going before his 30th birthday...

He hammers his way 310 yards down the heart of the sixth fairway.

Chez Reavie, who is playing with Brooks Koepka, came off the fifth green laughing, as in he can't believe what he's seeing and how ridiculous is the golf from Koepka.

John: What happened to Tommy Fleetwood? He shot 10 shots worse than normal on a US Open Sunday. I know Francesco Molinari doesn’t call or text him anymore but he shouldn’t let that affect his golf!
