  1. Gary who?published at 22:45 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Woodland -11 (1)

    Alex Miceli
US golf reporter on BBC Radio 5 live

Gary Woodland was a good sportsman in other sports before golf. He was a good basketball player but clearly wasn't going to make it as a professional.

Similar to Brooks Koepka, you don't really know what he's thinking out on the course but in a quiet way, he can be a real assassin.

  2. Koepka escapes with parpublished at 22:43 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Koepka -8, Reavie -7 (2)

A real wrist-rattler for Brooks Koepka as he hacks his way out of the rough at two, and that will find a steep bank leading into a bunker up ahead. One leg three feet higher than the other as he attacks this... and what a shot! Remarkable from the world number one, he puts it to within five feet of the flag and should save par. No mistake to complete the great escape.

  3. Birdie for Rosepublished at 22:42 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Rose -11, Woodland -11 (1)

Brilliant from Justin Rose who sinks another putt. He's been on fire with his flat iron this week and now has a share of the lead, as Gary Woodland starts with a par.

You'd fancy him in match play from here wouldn't you?

  4. Postpublished at 22:38 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Rose -10, Woodland -11 (22:30 BST)

Great start from Justin Rose. On the fairway and now on the green, with a presentable birdie chance. He spent most of Saturday in the sand.

Gary Woodland's on the dance floor as well, but the American will be putting from at least twice the distance.

  6. Postpublished at 22:35 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Koepka -8, Reavie -7 (1)

Well, Brooks Koepka got off to the perfect start with a birdie at the first but he has just lashed a huge drive towards the car park off the second tee... it clears the first line of spectators and might be out of bounds down there.

  7. Postpublished at 22:35 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Rose -10, Woodland -11 (22:30 BST)

Justin Rose whips his ball away off the first tee to warm applause. Gary Woodland veers a little right but he's ok, in the thicker grass on the right side of the fairway.

These two look to have a decent rapport out there, you can tell they are pals off the course and share the same management company.

A long iron off the tee is usually order of the day here. This dogleg par four bends abruptly to the right.

Although the fairway slope helps a ball that is hit from left to right, length is not important here. The priority as ever is to keep the ball on the fairway for a good approach into the narrow dance floor.

  9. Double bogey for McIlroypublished at 22:34 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Oosthuizen -8, McIlroy -4 (2)

Bogey putt for Rory McIlroy from nine feet after dishing out of the greenside bunker, it fizzes by... frustration on the face of the world number three, and still a bit of work to do.

He skittles in for a double bogey at the second to all but end his US Open hopes.

  10. Double bogey for Molinaripublished at 22:32 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Molinari -4 (9)

What goes up must come down. Frankie Molinari made four birdies through his opening eight holes to climb to six under par, but has just double bogeyed the ninth. Ouch.

  11. Birdie for Koepkapublished at 22:30 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Koepka -8, Reavie -7

Boom, boom Brooks! They wouldn't drop for the world number one yesterday, but Koepka is off the mark with a birdie at the first today. No messing from the American, arrowing in his putt from seven feet. Three off the lead...

  12. 'I haven't had my A game this week'published at 22:29 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

Justin Rose sits one shot off the lead as he heads into the final round of the US Open, but says he's yet to discover his "A game" this week.

"The harder the shot the better I played. I stepped up on certain occasions," he said. "A couple of misjudgments with the wind and spin, decent looks at birdie and ending up coming in pars. Five birdies is always great, you can have a mistake out there if you have five birdies on the scorecard.

"It is probably more of a mental one. I haven't had my A game all week, might not have it tomorrow, and it might be that kind of day where you have to be as mentally strong as you can."

Gary Woodland has never led at this stage of a major championship before but he sounded pretty bullish about his chances today after the third round.

Asked if he believed he could win, the 35-year-old American, who has won three PGA Tour titles said: "100%. I worked for this my whole life. I've trained since I started walking."

"I've played sports, I've competed. I've learned how to win, even if I haven't done it as much as I'd like.

"I know what it takes to win. And my game is in a great spot."

  14. Birdie for Molinaripublished at 22:28 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Molinari -6 (8)

Francesco Molinari is absolutely flying as he approaches the turn.

Stuck in the greenside bunker on eight, he whips his ball out and two bounces later it trickles into the centre of the cup. And with a doff of the cap, that is that.

The Open champion is now four under for the day and tied for sixth.

  15. Rory in troublepublished at 22:27 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Oosthuizen -8, McIlroy -6 (1)

Trouble for Rory McIlroy at the second. He's found some fescue off the tee and can only lash his ball out of the straggly long grass into a bunker a tad further up. Clean strike for the Northern Irishman as he looks for the green, but that's loose to the right and ends up in another patch of sand.

    Uh oh...

    Koepka -7, Reavie -7 (22:19 BST)

Chez Reavie's baseball cap always seems too big for his head. Like a Lego figure. He fizzes an approach into the first green and watches it spin back some, before Brooks Koepka clips on to give himself a shot at birdie.

  18. Sarri presenting the golf on BBC Radio 5 Livepublished at 22:24 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

Make your own mind up folks - is that really Maurizio Sarri presenting the golf from Pebble Beach tonight?

  19. Koepka out to make historypublished at 22:21 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Koepka -7, Reavie -7 (22:19 BST)

If Brooks Koepka were to come through and win today he would become the first player to win a single major championship in three consecutive years since Peter Thompson's run at the Open between 1954-56. The two-time defending champion finds the first cut off the first tee.

  20. Birdie for Oosthuizenpublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Oosthuizen -8, McIlroy -6 (1)

Louis Oosthuizen is wasting no time. He pops an approach to 18 feet and just wriggles his birdie putt gently down the sloping green before watching it break just in time to drop.

Birdie for the South African, and he moves to within three of the lead.

Rory McIlroy is coming at his from the fringes but leaves it short. He taps in for an opening par.
