I'm rooming with Gareth Lord, who is caddying for Justin Rose.

As a caddie, you just have to try and show your player that you are feeling relaxed, even if you're not.

After I won this tournament with Martin Kaymer in 2014, he gave me a replica of the trophy and all I remember is driving in my car, listening to Loaded by Primal Scream, with the windows down, singing along.

The people I passed on the street must have wondered what was going on.

  2. Hovland homing in on Nicklaus recordpublished at 22:16 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

    Hovland -4 (9)

Viktor Hovland won the 2018 US Amateur championship at Pebble Beach.

With a round of 68 or better today, he'll break the 72-hole scoring record for an amateur in the US Open, set by Jack Nicklaus in 1960.

Oh and he turns professional on Monday, so I'm sure he'll have a few quid pretty soon after that.

    Fitzpatrick -3 (9)

Matt Fitzpatrick has reached the turn in 33. The 24-year-old from Sheffield is two under for the day having just dropped a shot at the ninth.

That puts in him in a tie for 18th. The prize money around that mark is £150k give or take a few quid.

    Oosthuizen -7, McIlroy -6 (22:08 BST)

Rory McIlroy tees off to a cry of "the King of the North..." nobody tell Jon Snow, eh.

The Northern Irishman and playing partner Louis Oosthuizen crack a couple of irons down the opening fairway to get under way without issue.

Justin Rose has had 20 fewer putts or so than Brooks Koepka. That means Brooks has been excellent tee to green, but Justin's short game has been keeping him in it.

They've done it very different ways but can Rose keep it together today?

Rory McIlroy needs to make up five shots if he is to win a first major since 2014, and says he'll be more aggressive on the final day.

"I basically need to go out there and not miss a shot and maybe get some momentum early," he said.

"You can play the first seven holes in three or four under it is possible and I need to just get going from there.

"I don't think you can chase too much. So the strategy will be the same but if I need to be more aggressive on the back nine I will do that."

Behind the frontrunners sits the man who has won the previous two US Opens and is looking for a fifth major title in his past nine starts.

Oh, and he's also the world number one.

Brooks Koepka, champion in 2017 and 2018 and winner of the US PGA last month, is four shots back alongside fellow American Chez Reavie and South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen.

Four-time major winner and 2011 US Open champion Rory McIlroy is a further stroke back at six under par.

Tigers, yachts, rough that drops off into the Pacific Ocean... it's the unmistakable setting of Pebble Beach.

The final day is well under way on the Californian coast and we are just half an hour from seeing the leaders head out.

England's Justin Rose is lurking one shot off the lead as he looks to win a second US Open, but it's Gary Woodland who tees off in pole position with eyes on claiming his first major.

    Let's 'av it...
