Lee Westwood sees his birdie attempt at the last die just around the back of the cup. He taps in for 73 - not much went his way today.

And Danny Willett cards the same score, good to see him getting back into contention again. He's tied with Tyrrell Hatton, who slipped in under the radar with 69 earlier on today.

  3. Did you see my birdie lads?published at 17:38 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Holmes +2 (16)

For every moment of joy golf ensures it keeps its equilibrium by making someone suffer.

Shane Lowry is in golfing heaven, JB Holmes is in far more gloomy surroundings - 12 over for his round.

He started the day 10 under, with hopes of mounting a challenge. Now he's tied 41st.

    Golf is hard.

Still, if that were my card I'd still be talking about my birdie on seven.

Shane Lowry shook his fist in delight when that putt dropped and behind the green his dad Brendan embraced with two pals. That should do it.

Tommy Fleetwood rolls a birdie attempt up but it's not threatening. Shane Lowry has a shorter attempt - he's just been a bit too good for Fleetwood throughout today.

The 15th hole is home to a huge, huge roar as they watch their man stroke home for birdie.

He fist bumps his caddie. He stands alone and looks down, contemplating what he is about to achieve.

Six shots clear, three holes to play. This is what you worked for Shane Lowry, this is what you visualised.

It's all happening just as you planned.

    Finau -7 (F)

Tony Finau handled the conditions better than most and a par putt on the 18th, his fifth in the row, meant he finished even par for the day and with the clubhouse lead on seven under overall. A second top five finish at a major this year. Edging closer.

Ireland has waited 11 years since Padraig Harrington took a major home.

Shane Lowry, a Guinness or two will be raised in your name tonight.

  9. Koepka moving on uppublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Koepka -7 (15)

At last! A birdie for Brooks Koepka, his first of the round, at 15 takes him to joint third place. He eagled the fifth, but that was after a horror start of four straight bogeys.

First signs of frustration on Tommy Fleetwood’s face, he really does not look happy and will feel that’s it - but the Southport man still has time to give a young lad his ball on the way to the 15th tee. Touch of class.

  11. The final six are 24 over par!published at 17:25 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer on BBC Radio 5 live

If you look at the final six players on the golf course they are a combined +24 today. Quite simply the conditions have been awful!

  13. Fowler fluffs birdie chancepublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Fowler -6 (16)

Text book stuff off the tee at the par three 16th from Rickie Fowler - he keeps it low into the wind and sets up a decent birdie chance.

But he can't take it and stays at six under.

  14. Ireland... your moment is close...published at 17:22 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Lowry -14 (14) Fleetwood -9 (14)

And just like that, surely it is over?

Shane Lowry makes bogey on 14 but Tommy Fleetwood makes double.

    THE LEAD IS FIVE.

    Ireland, can you feel it?

  15. Match point...published at 17:17 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Fleetwood -11 (13) Lowry -15 (13)

Tommy Fleetwood's caddie tells his mate that Lowry "doesn't have the easiest chip in the world."

Fleetwood is in rough and up a bank, so his stance is a bit obscure. His chip isn't great and the ball rolls off the green. With that my friends, surely Shane Lowry will shut the door and bolt it closed.

Here he goes with his chip... 15ft left while Fleetwood is off the surface.

    Match point. Game ball.

    Fleetwood -11 (13) Lowry -15 (13)

From the sand Tommy Fleetwood crosses the 14th fairway and is in the rough. From the rough Shane Lowry is through the green and in more rough.

As I said a few entries back. These fellas are chugging along. It's not too expansive and is instead more about survival.

  18. Westwood drops a shotpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 21 July 2019

    Westwood -6 (16)

Lee Westwood has a seven-footer for par at 16, but it doesn't break enough and slips by for his sixth bogey of the round. That means Tony Finau is alone in third place - the top four (including ties) qualify for the Masters next year, by the way.

    Lowry -15 (13) Fleetwood -11 (13)

The pot bunker is maybe 20ft wide. There are hundreds of feet all around it to aim for. But this is golf, so Tommy Fleetwood pumps one in the sand. Shane Lowry doesn't take advantage as he's in the rough.

Both men chugging along but in these conditions, the men chugging along are the ones thriving.
