    Elliot Daly

It's not too far for Elliot Daly, though.

He whacks it over and there's just one point in it.

    England 3-7 France

A bit of kick tennis ends as Baptiste Pesenti knocks Jonny May over on the ball.

Elliot Daly steps up to take the penalty. It's 46m out and that might be a tad far for Owen Farrell.

Knife and butter springs to mind! Matthieu Jalibert looks about 12 years old, hair bouncing around, I have got to say there wasn't too much hint of an overlap, it looked like a missed tackle.

On that occasion the momentum came from the French forwards, and then you need the skill to finish it.

    England 3-7 France

    Well, well, well.

Not the start the newly returning fans would have wanted. England looked a little sleepy in the first 20 minutes against Wales last week and they have been caught off guard again.

Looks like we could be in for a good final.

    Brice Dulin

    Who saw that coming?

Matthieu Jalibert is the epitome of French flair as he dummies a pass, steps through England defenders and chucks the ball left where Brice Dulin has acres of room to slide over.

The young fly-half adds two more points as well.

    England 3-0 France

Not this time. It's a bit further outside the 22 and the ball swings left of the posts.

When France get that extra pass and challenge England's defence they look OK, once they start going backwards that's when they panic - they need to stay a bit more organised, more compact, and attack with numbers so they don't give away penalties.

  8. Postpublished at 12 mins

    England 3-0 France

A bit of a messy line-out but luckily for England Cameron Woki tried to pull Joe Launchbury down when the was still in the air.

Owen Farrell is going for another three points.

    England 3-0 France

France swing the ball from right to left but wing Gabin Villiere - who scored an incredible solo try against Italy last week - can make no progress against a tightly knitted England defence.

The visitors are penalised at the ruck again and their attack is over before it began.

The big boot of Henry Slade is pulled in for the kick to touch.

Owen Farrell could make a big dent into the 42 points he needs to reach 1,000 for England today.

  11. Penalty - England 3-0 Francepublished at 9 mins

    Farrell

    Posts it is.

Captain Owen Farrell steps up with a bleeding nose and nails his kick from just to the right of the sticks.

The crowd don't seem to mind that that attack didn't end in a try - they're just glad to be back and see their side in the lead.

    England 0-0 France

England get the penalty at the scrum as the French front row collapses. Will they go for the posts or are they looking to put on a show for the fans?

    England 0-0 France

George Ford bangs the ball into France's 22 and England look to put pressure on the visitors' line-out.

No luck there, but Maro Itoje erupts in celebration as number eight Selevasio Tolofua knocks the ball on at the breakdown. An inexperienced French scrum faces its first test against one of the best packs in the world.

What a passage of play. Lots of good kicking. England get territory now and win games off that kick - brilliant start. There was an opportunity for France to shift the ball a bit quicker, they have to take those if they want to run the ball.

    Phew.

Elliot Daly hoofs a massive kick up field, Brice Dulin returns the favour and we finally get a break in play. Exhausting start.

It's all a bit messy on the floor.

Kyle Sinckler jumps on a loose ball but he has no back-up and France immediately get the ball back.

Captain Baptiste Couilloud attempts a grubber kick through but it goes nowhere. England clear their lines and France attack again from the halfway line.

France are not going to be short of physicality, can they string it together? Have they had enough time, tactically, to take on a World Cup final side?

France's Cameron Woki gathers the ball but he is promptly bundled into touch.

Maro Itoje is a fingertip away from nicking the ball at the line-out but it does not take long before England turn the ball over on the floor.

They immediately kick it back to France though. Fast and furious start.

    Here we go then.

Fans cheer and whistle as Matthieu Jalibert kicks the ball into the sky and it echoes around the mostly empty stands. A beautiful, beautiful sound.
