Thousands of people have gathered in Bath this week to celebrate the Jane Austen festival in the 250th anniversary of her birth year.
Meanwhile, more than 25,000 shoes are on show in Street and rehearsals are underway for a theatre play based on Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre.
Read about that and more in our weekly picture round-up.

Fancy dress: People from all over the world gathered in Bath for a parade celebrating the 250th year since Jane Austen's birth.

New play: Actor Alison Campbell stars in a new production of Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre, in association with Live Wire and RoughHouse Theatre, at Taunton Brewhouse.

Heels and history: A shoemaker museum has opened in Street, Somerset, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Clarks shoes. It is situated next to the company's headquarters in Street and houses more than 25,000 shoes.

Safe now: A bird of prey is being cared for by a wildlife charity after it was trapped inside a food waste skip that had travelled more than 40 miles. The red kite was discovered in the skip that had come from Calne in Wiltshire to a waste site at Avonmouth docks in Bristol.

Good news: On Tuesday, councillors looked set to cancel the restoration of a crumbling Victorian pier when news broke of some 11th hour funding from the National Lottery Heritage fund. More than 30 years after it closed, Birnbeck Pier appears to have been saved.

Emergency care: More patients can now be treated and return home the same day, following the expansion of the Same Day Emergency Care Unit at Weston General Hospital. It was made possible by nearly £5 million in funding from NHS England, awarded to University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

Dramatic: BBC Weather Watcher Nessa captured the sunrise over the sea in Burnham-on-Sea.
