Five minutes are added on at the end of the first half. Southampton are holding on.

  5. Postpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Everton 2-0 Wolves

An Everton corner comes in from the right and James Tarkowski, who had a goal ruled out earlier in the half, gets there and heads the ball down, but Jose Sa is well placed to deal with it.

  6. 'Guardiola will have something to say at half time'published at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Man City 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Jen Beattie
Former Scotland and Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

City have started well and they are 2-0 up but I still think Pep Guardiola won't be happy with the chances that they have given away. He will have something to say at half time.

  8. Southampton's capacity for calamity is incomparablepublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Southampton 1-3 Chelsea

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Not only has goalkeeper Joe Lumley effectively handed Chelsea two of their three goals but Jack Stephens has been sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella's hair.

The most remarkable part of the defender's red card is that the Saints were actually attacking Chelsea's goal after winning a corner.

In fairness, they mustered a shot on target after the VAR told referee Tony Harrington to check the monitor and send off the captain Stephens.

But as much as Chelsea are beating Southampton by taking chances that are handed to them, the south coast team have been their own worst enemies.

  9. Postpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Everton 2-0 Wolves

Everton are enjoying themselves. Dwight McNeil tries his luck and it may have been on target, only for Mario Lemina to get his head in the way and deflect it for a corner.

  10. 'Liverpool looking shaky'published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

This Liverpool backline is starting to look a bit shaky. There's a number of players missing from that defence including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate.

But this defence is looking like they are at sixes and sevens.

I'm a Chelsea fan but that's a shocking decision. Foul yes but red card is a silly decision made worse by Cucurella's reaction. If that's the rule, then the rule is wrong.

Forest look hopeless out there. Defensively poor, sloppy in possession, and lacking any accuracy in the final third. This is like watching us at the Etihad 2 years ago. Will be another 6-0 at this rate.

And we are supposed to believe van Dijk is one of the best defenders ever? He's just been turned inside out by Isak!

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:13 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool

Jarell Quansah is booked for pulling his man back, this Liverpool defence is creaky.

Alexander Isak's goal meanwhile was clocked at a whopping 70mph. Faster than a cheetah.

Newcastle should be out of sight. You can't help thinking they'll pay for these misses.

  19. CLOSE!published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool

If tonight is a test of a few Liverpool understudies then I'm afraid Joe Gomez is in the wrong key at the moment.

He plays a duff pass straight to Jacob Murphy, who whistles a low shot just wide of the far corner.

  20. 'Forest mentality needs to remain strong'published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Man City 2-0 Nottingham Forest

The disappointing thing for Forest is that before the second goal they could have levelled through Chris Wood. At 2-0 the mentality needs to remain strong but they are starting to collapse a bit which is what they don't need.

They know that they can create and Man City might give the ball away. It might not be often but they need to be ready.
