Jota Silva crosses for Chris Wood, who misses the ball. It does land to Anthony Elanga though and he tries to curl it inside the far post but doesn't get enough bend on it.

Orel Mangala has scored his first Premier League goal for Everton in his 12th appearance in the competition for the Toffees. His last goal in the top fight came for Nottingham Forest in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on 5 November 2023.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have now conceded 17 first-half goals in 14 games, more than any other in the Premier League this season.

Jack Stephens is shown a straight red card and he only has himself to blame.

Easy decision for the referee in the end. Stephens clearly pulled Marc Cucurella's hair.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool

    Oh it should be two!

A long ball forward pits Anthony Gordon against Joe Gomez and the defender gets it all wrong. He's under the ball and Gordon eases him off it. The Newcastle man is clean through on goal but can't beat Caoimhín Kelleher with a rather tame effort.

Jack Stephens pulls Marc Cucurella's hair when the referee isn't looking.

Cucurella goes to the floor. And VAR asks the ref to check the screen for violent conduct.

  8. 'Isak has been extra special'published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Alexander Isak has been extra special in this game. Every time he has got the ball, he has went deep with it.

He has created two or three very good chances for his team-mates, but it was only time someone gave him a chance.

But that is not even a chance. He had a lot to do. You are thinking can he do it. But there is no one else you want to be on the ball in that Newcastle team in that situation.

  9. Postpublished at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Southampton 1-3 Chelsea

Chelsea are flying. They want a fourth before half-time as Christopher Nkunku heads narrowly over.

Then keeper Joe Lumley has another pass intercepted, this time by Cole Palmer who, fortunately for the Saints stopper, can't get the ball under control.

One or two boos from the homes fans.

    Jen Beattie

Man City need to stay concentrated and focused and not let Forest get back in. Forest have already had two big chances.

Not to bring anyone down or anything but just a gentle reminder that the first of the classic Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle games happened closer to Neil Armstrong setting foot on the moon than to today.

    Talk about fine margins.

When Chris Wood was running at the Manchester City goal, I was just waiting for the net to bulge as Nottingham Forest equalised.

But Wood missed and within seconds, the man whose mistake let him in is finding the net at the other end.

After celebrating Kevin de Bruyne's strike, manager Pep Guardiola turned to the crowd and demanded they make more noise.

He has asked for their help. He wants more.

Try ruling that one out, what a hit from Orel Mangala.

Wolves are in all sorts of trouble, defensively a shambles.

    Alexander Isak (35 mins)

Newcastle United's Alexander Isak celebrates scoring their first goalImage source, Reuters

    Alexander Isak is some player!

Moments after he set up Lewis Hall for a chance which he can't get on target he goes alone, turning Virgil van Dijk about 25 yards out and then absolutely leathering the ball into the roof of the net.

That had power, swerve, dip...a sensational goal!

  17. goal

GOAL - Everton 2-0 Wolvespublished at 34 mins

    Orel Mangala

Everton's Orel Mangala celebratesImage source, Reuters

Orel Mangala was the reason why Everton weren't 2-0 up. Now he's the reason why they are.

Vitalii Mykolenko's scuffed effort bounces off a Wolves defender but only finds Mangala on the edge of the penalty area and he hits a delightfully clean strike and the ball flies past Jose Sa.

They probably thought that against Feyenoord.

  19. Postpublished at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Everton 1-0 Wolves

A chance for a Wolves equaliser. The ball is played from left to right, Matt Doherty on the right side of the penalty area fizzes the ball square across the face of goal but it is too quick for Jorgen Strand Larsen as his is sliding in, but the ball bounces off him and doesn't go towards goal.

  20. 'De Bruyne had all the time in the world'published at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Man City 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Jen Beattie
Former Scotland and Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I have no idea how you can give Kevin de Bruyne with his class that much time in the box. He had all the time in the world to pick out the top corner. City 2-0 up and can go into cruise control now.
