The link up between Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva has been fantastic down the right hand side. Silva driving in field and creating space for De Bruyne out wide, and the captain has one thing in his mind and that's to go for goal.

Chelsea hit the frame of the goal again.

From a corner Tosin Adarabioyo flicks one goalwards and his header clips the top of the bar and bounces over.

Only a matter of time before the Blues get a third. Total control.

  3. Postpublished at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Everton 1-0 Wolves

Everton thought they had got a second, but it was wiped out. They then have a chance to get a second anyway, only for Jose Sa to make a fine save with his legs to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Not there Tino! Livramento takes far too long clearing his lines on the edge of the area and Cody Gakpo nicks it off him, drives into the area and wins a corner off a defender.

    Sloppy.

You cannot expect your 4th choice keeper to pass the ball around like prime Ederson/Allison. I feel for Lumley, let him be a bit more direct and do all the fancy passing elsewhere!

  6. HITS THE WOODWORK - CHELSEApublished at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Brilliant counter-attack from Chelsea.

Joao Felix chips a lovely ball over the top for an unmarked Cole Palmer, but the Englishman's strike is tipped on to the post by Joe Lumley.

Kevin de Bruyne's return to the XI is very welcome for Manchester City. He's playing well here and shoots just wide of the far stick from the corner of the box.

  10. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

    Great effort!

Newcastle so close to taking the lead as Alexander Isak pings a ball in behind for Jacob Murphy to run onto, he strikes it early from the angle, puts it across goal and against the far post!

That's both teams who have hit the post now.

  11. Postpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

Another Chelsea chance, the visitors keep on coming.

A much-needed confidence booster for Southampton keeper Joe Lumley who rushes out to deny Noni Madueke from a tight angle with his body.

He then saves Cole Palmer's follow-up with a simple dive to his right.

That chance will give Forest confidence. Morgan Gibbs-White just popped up in the area and produced a good strike on goal and it was a great save from Stefan Ortega. They will know that City have been vulnerable in recent games and they can get goals.

  16. DISALLOWED GOAL - Everton (back to 1-0)published at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Everton 1-0 Wolves

Orel Mangala was offside when the free-kick was taken and was then blocking off Mario Lemina to stop him running back and trying to defend. James Tarkowski's header, which ended up in the back of the net, is ruled out.

Referee Michael Salisbury had been told by VAR Darren England to watch it back on a pitchside monitor, he did and reversed his original decision.

Is there any historical precedent for tactically replacing your goalkeeper before half-time? Lumley is having a mare today and we're not even 20 minutes in.
