Second fantastic corner from Bruno Fernandes today to find a team-mate in space. This time it's to Amad Diallo near the other corner of the box and his volley is blocked. Not quite Paul Scholes.

Goal number 22 in the Premier League this season for Chelsea's Cole Palmer.

Conor Gallagher releases Marc Cucurella down the left flank and the ex-Brighton man, booed every time he touches the ball, digs out a pulled-back cross and Palmer runs on to it and loops a header past the diving Bart Verbruggen.

    Lovely goal for Chelsea.

Lewis Dunk, the Brighton captain, needs treatment and Carlos Baleba gets ready to come on, but Dunk wants to give it a few minutes.

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

Good spell from Manchester United, who have had the last four shots since Alexander Isak's two chances in the opening 90 seconds.

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

The chances are coming at both ends. Simon Adingra looks to curl an effort into the top corner for Brighton but puts too much on it and it was always going over.

Not for the first time tonight Martin Dubvaka punches when I'd say he could catch, this time it's to parry Amad Diallo's 25-yard effort. It's fairly central and not too powerful and the keeper just about deals with it.

Moments later Alejandro Garnacho drags a shot wide after being picked out in space by Bruno Fernandes' corner.

Cole Palmer does take the free-kick but blasts his first effort at the Brighton wall and his second at team-mate Noni Madueke.

Lewis Dunk shoves Nicolas Jackson to the floor and gets a yellow card and concedes a free-kick in a dangerous spot. Cole Palmer looks interested for the visitors.

  9. Postpublished at 20:14 British Summer Time 15 May

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

Bruno Fernandes picks out Diogo Dalot in the box but the United full-back doesn't have any options in the middle.

Then Aaron Wan-Bissaka clips in a cross to Scott McTominay but the midfielder's header is straight at Martin Dubravka.

Malo Gusto with a chance to get his first Chelsea goal. His 20-yard effort takes a deflection off Igor Julio's leg, but Bart Verbruggen does well to quickly readjust and push the ball over the top. Decent save that one.

  11. Postpublished at 20:12 British Summer Time 15 May

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka runs out of his box to head away a clearance - and does it well.

He's been preferred to the returning Nick Pope.

Casemiro is never far out the news.

He certainly has an eye for goal. He has shown that through the years at Real Madrid.

Bruno Fernandes' cross is punched away by Martin Dubravka, played back in and then Casemiro puts a bicycle kick over the bar from eight yards. That would have been fun (not for Newcastle).

  14. Postpublished at 20:10 British Summer Time 15 May

A header at the back post from Julio Enciso, but the Brighton man can't keep it down.

A good counter from Manchester United and Dan Burn pulls the shirt of Scott McTominay. The hosts have a free-kick but it's a bit too wide to shoot.

Newcastle win a corner which Manchester United deal with. Casemiro and Andre Onana get in a bit of an argument while they still have defensive work to do.

It's nearly all Newcastle so far. 'Bruno, Bruno, Bruno' go the fans. But it's the away fans cheering a great sliding tackle by Guimaraes.

As expected, Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes is playing as a false nine, which is potentially an astute move as the Portugal star is good at finding space.

Not that it will help the home side too much if Casemiro keeps wandering into midfield and giving the ball away as he did just then.

The Brazilian is lucky Sofyan Amrabat got across to snuff out the danger.

  19. Postpublished at 20:06 British Summer Time 15 May

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

Casemiro, in his sixth game in a row at centre-back, wins the ball well and strolls forward. 'Oh this is looking better from him' I think. And then he passes it straight to a Newcastle player.

Newcastle play it into the space he should be in and Sofyan Amrabat does well to slide in on Anthony Gordon before he can shoot.

VAR screen in the stadiumImage source, Reuters

On an evening when it was announced that Premier League clubs will vote on whether VAR stays or not for next season, we have a VAR decision.

Referee Michael Salisbury makes a shocking call to point to the spot when Facundo Buonanotte slid in and clearly won the ball away from Marc Cucurella.

But before Chelsea can take the penalty, VAR instantly tells Salisbury to watch the incident again on a pitchside monitor, which he does and then changes his decision.

He then, bafflingly, gives Brighton a goal kick when it was clearly a corner, but at least the right decision of no penalty was made.

One for the plus column for VAR that one.
