  4. 'We have high expectations of ourselves' - Thelinpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 10 August

    Aberdeen v Celtic (12:30)

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin tells BBC Scotland: “We’re looking forward to it. Our first league game at home, nice weather, a lot of people here at Pittodrie again, and it’ll be a good atmosphere.

“I think it’s a different kind of game [to the Scottish Cup final]. We had a game plan for that one. Today we are at home and we have a different approach to the game.

"It's all about winning the game, so the good thing with the cup final was that the team showed they can win trophies, which is not an easy thing to do. But today is another game in the league, and you will see some different players and we have a game plan for that today also.

"I think the expectation is always high, and we have high expectations of ourselves to try to arrive in Europe every year and be better. So we keep pushing for that to be the best we can be and try to develop every season."

  5. 'The football will get better' - Rodgerspublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 10 August

    Aberdeen v Celtic (12:30)

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: “We're looking forward to it. We had a good performance and result last week against a team that's very tough to break down.

"I think that you have to draw a line under [the Scottish Cup final], which we have done. It obviously hurt at the time and especially in the manner in which we conceded the goal and then losing penalties.

“But in the main, the record we've had against Aberdeen is outstanding. And last time we were here, we played some brilliant football, scored goals, defended well and we aim to do the same.

“I think both teams had their first competitive games last week. And I was pleased with how we played at this stage of the season.

“But we got the job done and we won the game. And I think over the course of this season, the football will get better. But what's most important, we come into every game to win and we won the game.

"So, it's that little combination. We started last season so well. We're really dynamic.

"But we've got a different set of players in our front line now. So, I have to respect that. But we'll always work with them to make them the very best that they can be.”

We haven’t had to wait too long for an early-season Scottish Premiership blockbuster.

Pittodrie is the venue this afternoon as two of the game’s heavyweights, Aberdeen and Celtic, collide.

It is fair to say the two sides have perhaps been a little bit slow out of the blocks so far this term.

The Dons failed to impress on their league opener, going down 2-0 at Hearts, while Celtic struggled to break down a stubborn St Mirren before a late Luke McCowan goal secured a narrow 1-0 win.

So both sides will be aiming for better today.

The last time the teams met was in last season’s Scottish Cup final, which saw the Dons return north with the silverware.

So it wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest Brendan Rodgers’ side will be heading to the Granite City with revenge on their minds.
