  1. 'A west London audition'published at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2024

I’ve not spotted Ruud van Nistlerooy yet, but we’re assured that he will be here.

He’s not had a say in the team selection today, but Leicester’s side has quite a different look to it, both in shape and personnel. It’s a west London audition for these Foxes players in front of their new manager.

The general feeling amongst Leicester’s fans is one of intrigue and excitement.

No one really has any idea how this van Nistlerooy appointment might play out.

Caretaker manager Ben Dawson's first - and only - Leicester selection raises eyebrows with Conor Coady and Luke Thomas given their first league starts of the season.

So far the pair have only started three Carabao Cup matches, including the 5-2 defeat to Manchester United who were under new Foxes boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy at the time.

It's a defensive line up with Leicester looking to frustrate a Brentford side trying to win four in a row at home for the first time in the top flight since 1937.

On the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy...

First of all I think it's very harsh on Steve Cooper 12 Premier League games in. The decision makers at the start of the season went with Steve Cooper and all of a sudden after 12 games - they haven't had a poor start to the season, I think they've done OK.

It's a big call because in terms of a manager he's a bit of a rookie so I'm a little bit surprised by the appointment.

New Leicester manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy will watch from the stands at Brentford having completed his move to the Foxes while in Holland.

The Foxes travel to the Gtech Community Stadium 16th in the Premier League with Van Nistelrooy needing to offer a little TLC to a squad who failed to fully buy-in to former boss Steve Cooper and unite a disaffected fanbase.

Reputations of the Leicester hierarchy, including director of football Jon Rudkin, are on the line after the appointment of a fourth manager in 19 months.

Only Enzo Maresca was a successful one and he only stayed a season having guided the Foxes back to the Premier League. After Cooper's 157-day reign ended on Sunday, Leicester cannot afford to get this one wrong.

Last season they were the fourth top scorers in the Premier League and this season they are the fourth lowest scorers - they just haven't had that clinical edge in the final third.

[Alexander] Isak was brilliant last season, he's probably a little bit off it this season but they need goals from other areas.

What can we expect from Newcastle today?

On Monday night the Magpies had a chance to go within two points of second.

But, at home to West Ham, they were sloppy at the back and in the end fell to a 2-0 loss.

Quick question, what does a draw smell like?

Is it something neutral, like fresh air? Or maybe it's stale, lifeless. Slightly damp.

Crystal Palace v Newcastle (15:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton

Crystal Palace have still only won one league game all season, against Tottenham at the end of October. The Eagles got a good point at Aston Villa last weekend but their manager Oliver Glasner definitely needs more than that to provide some early Christmas cheer.

I am not sure Glasner will get much joy here, though. Although I did not expect Newcastle lose at home to West Ham on Monday, I would not be surprised to see them bounce back.

This smells of a draw to me, because I do not see Newcastle losing.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

On Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall...

What they have both got is a real comfort on the ball and they are happy to work it into midfield.

They can defend. So many full-backs these days are not great defenders but both of these can.

I'm struggling to see a weakness in either of them.

The fact they have got into the England team so early and so young is extraordinary and for a lot of Chelsea fans it is even more extraordinary they were let go but it's PSR, nothing more than that.

Where does Eddie Nketiah go from here when he's not starting?

A lot of players are used to this 3-4-3 formation and Eddie doesn't want to be wide.

Can he adapt and play wide? That's the only option.

I was once in the arcade at a bowling alley, mis-hit the puck at air hockey and watched it fly through the air and hit a security guard on the back of their head.

Thankfully, they saw the funny side of it. My life flashed before my eyes when the puck was airborne.

Neil Warnock is a great 10-pin bowling fan. Famously he once hustled 10 pounds per player on a team outing, before producing his personalised shoes and bowling ball... then cleaning them all out with a score of 250.

For teams down at the bottom, some have that player who can save them and others are missing that talisman.

Wolves have got Matheus Cunha. If they can really get him firing, we saw last season how important he was to the team. The goal at Fulham at the weekend was one that affected that result. If Gary O'Neil can get him back to his best, he could be their potential saviour this season.

    Wolves v Bournemouth (15:00 GMT)

    Wolves

Wolves head coach Gary O'Neil said he is "really pleased with the progression" made by versatile defender Toti Gomes, who was Wolves' only fit recognised centre-back for last weekend's impressive 4-1 win at Fulham.

Toti mainly played rugby during his childhood and only seriously got into football during his teenage years, but now the 25-year-old is a regular starter for the Premier League club and made his senior debut for Portugal last season.

"He had the physical attributes to allow him to play at Premier League level, no doubt. He was quick enough and strong enough," said O'Neil.

"The real trump card Toti has is that everything you give him, he will literally keep trying until you blow the whistle and tell him to go. He's one of those guys you root for."

Some good quotes from Wolves boss Gary O'Neil in the matchday programme, concerning his side's 4-1 win at Fulham last time out.

He writes: "I was extremely proud of the players last Saturday as they came off the pitch at Craven Cottage because every single one played their part in earning one of my favourite performances in my time as a coach."

He also paid tribute to the fans' recent support, saying: "The support from the stands at both our matches against Southampton and Fulham was outstanding. I know you're going to be there for us once again this afternoon and it really does make a difference to the lads on the pitch."

Mum's the word when Chris Wood faces Dara O'Shea at the City Ground on Saturday.

The Ipswich defender and Nottingham Forest striker Wood never played with each other but share a special bond.

They were at West Brom and Burnley at different times but Republic of Ireland international O'Shea lived with Wood's parents, Julie and Grant, when he was a young player at the Baggies.

The couple offered Baggies players digs while they were living away from their own homes.

It meant Wood would return home and, on occasion, find O'Shea - who joined Ipswich from Burnley in the summer - relaxing in the living room.

He said: "A couple of times! Unfortunately, I was never too close to Birmingham the times he was there. I was at other clubs across the country. It worked well for Dara and my parents and they have stayed in contact, at least at parent level with his mum and dad.

"It was a nice way to give back and feel part of the club. They've had a number of boys and one of those was Dara, who's done extremely well over the years. He did well at West Brom, when he went to Burnley and now at Ipswich.

"Mum and dad are extremely nice to take in players as digs parents. It's a great way to give back to a club which gave me a huge stepping stone in my career. They took a big chance on a Kiwi boy from New Zealand."
