It's Tyrone Mings' 150th appearance in the Premier League for Aston Villa today, and he and the Villa defence are being made to work in these early stages. Chelsea have started with real intent, which will certainly delight Enzo Maresca given the manner last weekend's loss to Brighton.

Enzo Maresca will be demanding a reaction from his players tonight. There are a lot of quality players in this Chelsea team and it won't be easy for them against a tough Villa side.

They didn't create much against Brighton so they are going to have to up the intensity at the top end of the pitch tonight.

  7. 'Clear today was a bad afternoon for the referee'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    FT: Fulham 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva talking to Sky Sports: "The first half was balanced. We didn't allow them to press like they usually do. We did it the way we should and the way we wanted. They came up with a different way. We didn't create enough chances.

"In the first 30 minutes we arrived with the ball in certain areas well but the moments to create clear chances weren't there. After that some decisions went against us and there was nerves in the stadium. We gave many things to them that you can't do at this level. I thought it was a foul for the orner before their forst goal and moments like that can be decisive.

"The second half was really strange. The moment we made the changes, they scored a goal in transition. That was our fault clearly, we have to be more aggressive and kill it, with the rules of course. After that everything was more difficult for us.

"The physicality is for both sides. The Premier League is a physical game. I never saw, this season or last season, Craven Cottage complaining as much today about decisions. We like to be a physical side but today we were unlucky with the referee. It is not the first time this season. They can have bad afternoons and it was clear today was a bad afternoon for the referee."

Given the nerviness, and the obvious tiring of the midfield in the last few Liverpool games, I still think this title is wide open. Nothing is guaranteed yet, a win tomorrow would be a great step but I'm still don't think we'd be high and dry.

  9. 'We were always a threat'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    FT: Ipswich 1-4 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports: "They're one of the hardest-working teams in the league.

"You know you're going up against a battle and a contest - we had to do that today. First half, we could have done better. We allowed them some moments, but in the second half we dug in.

"That allowed us to execute and play our football.

"When you come to a place like this, the crowd creates some energy - we had to weather that storm.

"We were always a threat. Sonny [Son] was unplayable in that first half. So great to get Brennan [Johnson] back. He scores so many goals for us in those areas."

On players returning: "The fact that we can throw people on from the bench who can contribute. I could give Madders [James Maddison] and Pedro [Porro] a rest today - everyone gets a boost.

"From our perspective, these last two weeks have given us a breather and reset our football. I'm pleased the boys have embraced it."

On Europe: "Look, it's a couple of games now, but for us, where we were was unacceptable. It wasn't for lack of effort from the players.

"We have still got Europe, but we feel like we can make an impact, and we have to move up the table."

Cole Palmer, who has 14 Premier League goals this season, last registered an assist in the competition against Aston Villa, back in December.

It's important to note that isn't for a lack of trying, though.

Since he set up Enzo Fernandez that day, the England international has created 33 chances for his team-mates - but not one has been converted.

One massive concern for Enzo Maresca in last week's 3-0 loss to Brighton was that his side failed to land a single shot on target, doing so in a league match in September 2021 against Manchester City.

  12. 'Much needed three points'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    FT: Arsenal 0-1 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus: "Much needed three points. It has been a difficult season but it is one of those wins we will never forget about. We were focused and I'm glad we got the three points. We played a top team and we knew they would attack a lot. Everyone did their duties."

On the red card incident where he was fouled by Myles Lewis-Skelly: "I was pressing to get the ball. From the pitch, I took the ball off him and then they gave the red card. I tried to get the shot off. If I wasn't stopped, I was heading direct to the goal against the keeper."

On what the win does for his side: "Very, very good boost. Still, we have a lot of games to go. We got these three points and then we focus on the next one and keep going."

  13. 'Maresca could start to come under pressure'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

Aston Villa v Chelsea (17:30 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
    BBC Sport columnist

Chelsea's form has been pretty rotten recently and their manager, Enzo Maresca, needs a strong finish to the season.

It doesn't help that Cole Palmer has lost his mojo, on top of their issues at centre-forward and in goal. Maresca really needs to make the Champions League places but nothing is clicking for his side at the moment.

Aston Villa are probably in better shape in terms of their performances, but their results have also not been great with four draws and a defeat in their past five league games.

They were great going forward against Liverpool on Wednesday but just cannot keep clean sheets - although Tyrone Mings' return to the team from injury is big for them at the back.

I had to think a bit about this one but I am going for my old club Villa to beat my old club Chelsea, and Maresca might start to come under a bit of pressure if this poor run carries on much longer.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

    Aston Villa line-up

Unai Emery makes four changes from the Aston Villa side which drew 2-2 with Liverpool on Wednesday.

Axel Disasi's absence is enforced as he is inelible against his parent club. Marcus Rashford, Lucas Digne and Andres Garcia, meanwhile, are benched.

Ezri Konsa - who had been an injury doubt - comes in, as do Matty Cash, Ian Maatsen, and Jacob Ramsey.

Aston Villa XI: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Maatsen; McGinn, Tielemans, Asensio, Rogers, Ramsey; Watkins.

Subs: Olsen, Zych, Rashford, Digne, Garcia, Malen, Bogarde, Bailey, Jimoh.

    Chelsea line-up

Winger Noni Madueke is out with a hamstring issue, with defender Reece James taking his place.

Chelsea XI: Jorgensen; James, Chalobah, Colwill; Gusto, Caicedo, Fernandez, Cucurella; Palmer, Nkunku, Neto.

Subs: Sanchez, Adarabioyo, Sancho, Dewsbury-Hall, George, Acheampong, Amougou, Samuels-Smith, Mheuka.

  17. 'We can be very tough to play against'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    FT: Fulham 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner talking to BBC Match of the Day: "All of the credit goes to the players again, they worked so hard for this win and they were very disciplined. We didn't give them clear chances. We were very compacted and waited for the chances. We defended as a team - it was a great performance and result.

"We don't know the reason for winning more away than at home. It is the same approach. I think it is important that we don't always talk about winning at home. Whenever we're talking we are speaking about increasing our chances of winning and it is the same approach at home. That is the only thing we do. If we think 'we have to win, we have to win' you're not thinking about what you're doing on the pitch. you're not disciplined, we know we can score goals all over the pitch and we can be very tough to play against, especially when we defend like we did today."

  20. 'The performance today wasn't good enough'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    FT: Arsenal 0-1 West Ham

    Arsenal

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Big blow. The performance today wasn't good enough. Really disappointed.

On why Arsenal struggled: "I don't know, we lacked a bit in final third efficiency. We have to see the game back and analyse it but it wasn't good enough."

On injuries up front: "We have players missing but we have players here who are good enough and available so we have to focus on that. It wasn't good enough in front of the goal. With the red card, it was tricky as well."

His thoughts on Myles Lewis-Skelly's red card: "I don't know, I haven't seen it again, I don't know."

"We have to keep going, still a long way to go, still many points to play for. We have to strike back in the next one."
