This first half has gone so quick. Both teams have been on the front foot and have been wanting to press and get forward.

Matty Cash gets in the way of Marc Cucurella's attempted cross and Chelsea will have a corner as we edge towards the interval.

Pedro Neto takes his time to walk over to take it. It's headed back out to Reece James, who connects well with a volley but the sting is taken out of it by a wall of defenders.

Villa's attack genuinely looks Champions League with the new signings but our defence has felt Non-League at times this season. Predictably we concede the first goal again.

Five minutes of the first half to go before everyone gets a well-earned rest.

Malo Gusto does well to hunt down a long ball up into the corner but is forced back by the Villa defence.

I'll let you know if I figure that one out, Matt.

Another key question is whether Tyrone Mings is grimacing in pain or just trying to get his breath back. It would be more than forgivable if it's the latter.

Is this Maresca embracing chaos over control or are Chelsea just playing badly?

After Chelsea's encouraging start, this has certainly evened out now.

The Blues look unconvincing at the back now and Filip Jorgensen completely misses the ball as he comes out to catch a cross. Fortunately for him, Ollie Watkins didn't anticipate it.

There is no need for Villa to panic, they have played themselves back into this game. They are really on the front foot and committing more men forward.

The full-backs Ian Maatsen and Matty Cash are getting into the game more, Morgan Rogers and Marco Asensio - there are going to be opportunities for them.

Yes but it all makes for rather entertaining viewing for us neutrals, Fred.

A mistake from Reece James allows Ollie Watkins in to the left of goal but the Villa striker drills a shot into the side netting, much to the frustration of team-mate Morgan Rogers.

Chelsea passing it directly to a Villa player from their own box THREE TIMES in a row might be my "game's gone" moment. How can anybody think that's a good idea?

Ollie Watkins looks to be in but goes down under pressure and to the hosts' frustration Michael Oliver doesn't award a foul.

    This is great fun.

These two are going toe-to-toe, trading attacks like it's the final 10 minutes of a cup tie.

Cole Palmer was always looking to get the ball onto his favoured left foot. Tyrone Mings does well to delay him and the deflection goes just wide - could have gone anywhere.

Another chance falls to Ollie Watkins, but again the Villa striker can't find the back of the net as Filip Jorgensen gets an outstretched leg to it.

As the game continues at a frantic pace, Cole Palmer fires inches wide after doing well to create a yard of space for himself.

We have been tricked by the titantic Liverpool-City title races into thinking that every dropped point is a disaster. There will be twists and turns yet. This Liverpool and Arsenal are not as indomitable as those sides were.

Enzo Fernandez has now scored in 14 different matches in European football across his spells with Benfica and Chelsea.

In each of the previous 13 matches that Fernandez has scored, his side have gone on to win.

Matty Cash dwelt on the ball too long there and allowed Enzo Fernandez to nick it off him. You could see what he was trying to do there, just pick out the top corner, but he lifted it just over the bar.

Enzo Fernandez goes close to a second!

It's a delightful, curling effort from the Argentine but it flies narrowly over Emiliano Martínez's goal.

This is being played at a great pace.
