    Derby 1-1 Coventry

A perfect illustration already of why set-pieces are just so important here.

Callum Elder's effort was the left-footed copy of the strike Joe Ward produced at West Brom in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

The set-piece specialist Stuart Reid is earning his corn at Pride Park.

  2. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 16 August

    Wrexham 0-0 West Brom

A first real chance of the game and it comes for West Brom.

Good work down the left from Karlan Grant gets him some space and when his cross evades Callum Syles, Tom Fellows at the far post blazes his effort over the bar from eight yards at the far post.

  3. 'What a start'published at 12:48 British Summer Time 16 August

    Portsmouth 0-2 Norwich

    Che Wilson
Former Norwich defender on BBC Radio Norfolk

It goes to show how important that first touch is.

The save a few moments ago was very important, they go up the other end and get the goal.

The long throw-ins can cause confusion and that has happened here.

    What a start for Norwich.

  4. goal

GOAL: Portsmouth 0-2 Norwichpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 16 August

    Josh Sargent 14 mins

Josh Sargent didn't have to wait too long...

Again, the Pompey marking is fairly dreadful as Jose Cordoba glances on a long throw and Sargent bundles the loose ball in from close range.

Canaries fans are certainly feeling chirpy right now.

  5. Postpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 16 August

    Derby 1-1 Coventry

A chance for a third goal in the opening 15 minutes.

The ball drops for Haji Wright inside the Derby box, but he somewhat drags his shot wide of the near post.

Not sure the goals have dried up yet!

  6. Postpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 16 August

    Wrexham 0-0 West Brom

A first corner of the game for Wrexham - always dangerous from set pieces.

They take it short and when it's eventually delivered into the area visiting goalkeeper Josh Griffiths makes a mess of things but the flag goes up for offside in any event.

That's a warning shot across the West Brom bow and Mr Griffiths can expect plenty more tests of that sort.

  7. 'A terrific strike'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 16 August

    Derby 1-1 Coventry

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

    It's a hell of a strike.

It's whipped in with pace, if I'm the goalkeeper I'm wondering how I get beat.

A terrific strike, perfectly hit, you can't take anything away from it.

  8. Postpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 16 August

    Portsmouth 0-1 Norwich

It's certainly fair to say Pompey haven't been at the races so far.

They might have been two down already, giving the ball away to Ante Crnac and he threads it in for Josh Sargent.

Sargent has already scored in both of Norwich's games this season - league and cup - but he doesn't get a third for now as Nicolas Schmid does enough to foil him.

  9. goal

GOAL: Derby 1-1 Coventrypublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 16 August

    Callum Elder (12 mins)

What a response from the Rams!

Dazid Ozoh wins Derby a free-kick just outside the right side of the area. It's a bit of an angle, good for a left-footer and Callum Elder proves exactly why.

The Australia international lines it up and bends it with pace over Carl Rushworth into the far top corner.

    A brilliant hit from Elder.

  10. Postpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 16 August

    Wrexham 0-0 West Brom

Both sides just feeling each other out here.

This is a three-sided ground at the moment while they build a new stand behind the goal currently occupied by West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths.

I wonder how many times we'll be fetching the ball from the building site today?

  11. 'Such a simple goal'published at 12:39 British Summer Time 16 August

    Portsmouth 0-1 Norwich

    Guy Whittingham
Former Portsmouth manager on BBC Radio Solent

It's so easy for Norwich, he was completely unmarked.

Such a simple goal for them, I am wondering if there was an offside as it just seems too simple.

  12. goal

GOAL: Portsmouth 0-1 Norwichpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 16 August

    Harry Darling 6 mins

Not the start the Fratton Park crowd - well, most of them - wanted to see!

Marcelino Nunez whips in a free-kick from the right and centre-back Harry Darling just glides to the near post, taking advantage of poor marking to direct his header beyond Nicolas Schmid.

  13. goal

GOAL: Derby 0-1 Coventrypublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 16 August

    Bobby Thomas (7 mins)

Coventry City's Bobby Thomas (second from right) scoresImage source, PA Media

    Definitely pretty in pink!

Bobby Thomas is a man in demand but with a hint of luck, he has scored Coventry's first Championship goal of the season.

It's a brilliant ball in from Victor Torp with his free-kick, which is whipped in low towards the near post from deep out on the right.

It's a nightmare for Jacob Widell Zetterstrom in the Derby goal and all he succeeds in doing is pushing it onto the head of Thomas, who was sliding towards him.

Five last season for the centre-half and he's up and running for the new campaign.

    Wrexham 0-0 West Brom

Joey Jones in action for WrexhamImage source, Rex Features

Wrexham's first home game in the second tier of English football for 43 years.

Their last match was a 3-2 win over Rotherham in 1982.

In the team that day was Joey Jones - a man who made more than 370 appearances for the club in three stints.

He sadly passed away last month and there's been lots of talk about him before kick-off.

  15. Pretty in pink?published at 12:34 British Summer Time 16 August

    Derby 0-0 Coventry

Coventry are decked out in their new away kit, it's a salmon, flamingo-ish pink affair.

Not sure their sky blue would be clashing with Derby's classic white and black home kit, but hell, what do I know?

Nervous moments though at the back as Carlton Morris is not far off a good Callum Elder cross for Derby, while Carl Rushworth is forced into action at his near post to deal with Ebou Adams' low ball.

Grounds looking resplendent. Lots of new kits on show and very few people in long sleeves.

    August football. Let's go!

Arguably the world's most famous football club owner is in attendance.

A graphic of the Derby line-up

Three alterations to report in the Derby line-up from their opening-day Championship defeat at Stoke.

In come Callum Elder, Dion Sanderson and David Ozoh in place of Craig Forsyth, Corey Blackett-Taylor and Kenzo Goudmijn.

There is just one change to the Coventry side that drew with Hull seven days ago, a reflection of Frank Lampard's opinion that most things were decent, except some of the play in and around the box.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto misses out with USA forward Haji Wright in from the start. Bobby Thomas, subject of interest from Sheffield United, is at centre-back.

  19. East v west in Midlands rumblepublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 16 August

    Derby v Coventry (12:30 BST)

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard arrives ahead of the matchImage source, Rex Features

With six clubs in the division, we're never too far away from a Midlands rumble in the Championship and east meets west this lunchtime.

Derby, with renewed optimism after their great escape last season and plenty of transfer business, had their bubble pricked a little by a late defeat at Stoke.

Coventry also had a bit of a 'meh' result on the opening weekend as they drew 0-0 at home with Hull.

But three points this lunchtime would really feel like the season has started for either club.

And there are the manager connections too. John Eustace began his playing career at Coventry and ended it at Derby, where he is now in charge, while Frank Lampard's stint at Pride Park ended with play-off final defeat at Wembley.

Is that enough intrigue and interest for one fixture? Let's hope so.

  20. Murphy back from injury, Norwich make three changespublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 16 August

    Portsmouth v Norwich (12:30 BST)

    Portsmouth XI

Former Norwich winger Josh Murphy has recovered from a hamstring problem and returns to Portsmouth's starting line-up in place of Florian Bianchini.

That's the only change from Pompey's opening-day win at Oxford, while Norwich have made a trio of changes to the side that were beaten at home by Millwall last weekend.

Amankwah Forson is out injured, so midfielders Papa Diallo and Marcelino Nunez both start along with Emiliano Marcondes, while Jeffrey Schlupp and Jacob Wright drop to the bench for the Canaries.
