  2. 'I don't have one negative thought towards next season'published at 14:25 British Summer Time 2 May

Burnley v Newcastle (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany on the prospect of whoever stays up being decided by Nottingham Forest's appeal, rather than their results on the football pitch: "Where were you during Covid? I have experienced better than that. Mid-season getting stopped and someone getting handed the trophy. In Belgium we are pretty good at inventing rules that are completely out of the blue. That happened quite a few times in Belgium. It is not the first time I would see something surreal happening like this but at the same time I don't have one negative thought towards next season no matter what.

"I know next season is going to be a positive season - if we are in the Premier League it is going to be a positive season and in the worst-case scenario [that Burnley get relegated] it is still going to be a positive season.

"I don't think the journey of this club is depending on just that decision. But when you have an ambition to be a Premier League team this is too big an opportunity for us to think about anything else."

  3. 'It's common sense' to settle appeal before final game - Kompanypublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 2 May

Burnley v Newcastle (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany on how/when he would like to see Nottingham Forest's appeal against their four-point deduction resolved: "Let's hope common sense prevails and people figure out when to make a decision. Let's be honest about this, it's common sense - the last game of the season is Burnley v Nottingham Forest. It's common sense, I don't need to tell you that.

"This is the only thing I haven't worried about. I haven't taken this as a factor all season, so I am not going to start now.

"It is still the same mindset for me. It doesn't play any part in what we are doing in the next game."

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo on whether the club have heard the outcome of their appeal against their four-point deduction: "Not yet, unfortunately. Not yet.

"It's very difficult. We have been dealing with this situation for a while. We all expect this decision to come sooner so we are aware and we don't know exactly how many points we have. Do we have 30, 29, 28? So we need [to know] as fast as possible."

  5. 'Let's move forward' from Everton decisionspublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 2 May

Sheff Utd v Nott'm Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo on the PMGOL releasing the VAR audio on the three key decisions from Forest's 2-0 defeat by Everton: "I still believe that the three of them are the other way but he came to the decision, the observation of the PGMOL, and said that the third one was a penalty. Unfortunately they got it wrong.

"It happened before, in many situations, that we had decided and then [they] said it was the other way round. You cannot be bothered by that.

"What we expect is everything to go well and good decisions, good refereeing, not interfering with the result. Let's move forward."

  6. Nuno has escaped serious criticism over poor resultspublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 2 May

As Nottingham Forest wait for their profit and sustainability appeal verdict they still have the issue of surviving in the Premier League.

Saturday's trip to relegated Sheffield United represents another chance to put distance between themselves and the bottom three.

Rows over refereeing decisions, VAR and their PSR appeal has taken the heat off poor results this year, which has left them a point above the relegation zone.

Just two wins in 15 has stopped Forest moving away and Nuno Espirito Santo - who faces the media this afternoon - has avoided serious criticism over results.

The performance in Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City was positive but Forest would take a scrappy victory at Bramall Lane.

  7. 'We have to make improvements to the squad'published at 14:05 British Summer Time 2 May

Crystal Palace v Man Utd (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on early plans ahead of the summer transfer window: "[There's] always a lot of work, it's normal when you go into a transfer window, but the injuries had a big impact.

"We know also we are still below the levels from the expectations Manchester United has so we have to catch up and I'm now going into my fifth window - two windows quite OK, two we missed - so we have to make new improvements to the squad. But there is a base of this squad that is very good."

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on newly-appointed technical director Jason Wilcox: "We talk every day now, from last week. In a very short period we have to build an intense relationship.

"We are working now to a plan. We had a plan already before he stepped in and, of course, we have to get aligned. It takes time but we don't have so much time."

Sancho and/or Dier for EUROs? Can’t see Sancho getting a call-up at all, England have so much strength in depth there and he’s not been involved at all. Dier has more chance he’s capable and adaptable and England don’t have the same strength in his positions.

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on Jadon Sancho: "So let's say this: yesterday he played very good and he's a very good player. Yesterday he showed why Manchester United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for Manchester United, which is good.

"I'm happy for Jadon, for the performance yesterday, and we'll see what is going to happen in the future."

Mike: In reply to SM (10:40) you are simply reinforcing what we all (or should) know... the problem lies more with Erik ten Hag than with Jadon Sancho. The same can largely be said for most of the players.

  12. Fernandes 'doubt' to face Palace - Ten Hagpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 2 May

Crystal Palace v Man Utd (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on team news: "Scott [McTominay] didn't train so far this week but I expect him back in training on Saturday and we have to see if he's 100% available or for a part of the game.

"After the game [against Burnley], we had an issue with Bruno [Fernandes]. He is a doubt for Monday. We all know Bruno, never rule him out for any game. He will do his best to be available.

"Jonny Evans returned today for team training. Tomorrow we are off and then two days until the game. [Anthony] Martial was partly in team training."

Preparing for lots of thumbs down… but on current form, both Eric Dier and Jadon Sancho should be going to the Euros with England in the summer. Both playing really well in an outstanding league and could still line up against each other in a Champions League final. Can’t hurt that they’re familiar with German football fans and stadia either!

Erik ten Hag will be speaking to the media shortly ahead of Manchester United's trip to Crystal Palace on Monday.

As always, United have been in the news this week, with it becoming apparent they would be willing to listen to offers for virtually all their first team squad this summer.

In addition, there is Jadon Sancho's stellar performance for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-final against Paris St Germain last night.

Whether Ten Hag wants to talk about such matters is a different question altogether.

    Burnley

Burnley have lost just one of their last eight games in the Premier League after picking up two points from their previous nine matches.

Last season's Championship winners are now a tantalising two points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, with Nuno Espirito Santo's side visiting Turf Moor in what could be a huge final game of the season.

  18. Forest, Luton or Burnley - who will beat the drop?published at 13:34 British Summer Time 2 May

Luton scored a controversial 92nd-minute equaliser to deny Burnley a crucial win at Turf Moor when the two sides met in January.

Back then, Burnley were second bottom on 12 points and Luton in the final relegation place with 16 points from 20 matches.

Fast forward almost four months and they remain wedged in the same positions in the table...but with Nottingham Forest and safety in their sights.

Forest, meanwhile, have fallen from 15th to 17th place over the same period, after being deducted four points for breaching profit and sustainability rules.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are now in real peril of relegation, just one point above the drop zone. We are due to hear from Nuno, Burnley's Vincent Kompany and Luton's Rob Edwards shortly.
