1. Sancho was 'making players dance, he was a joke'published at 08:17 British Summer Time 2 May

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 PSG

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports: "Jadon [Sancho] was making players dance, he was a joke. We haven’t seen that since he was at Dortmund before.

"What I say today more than anything, that was cage football Sancho. This is the kid who grew up in cage football with that bit of swagger.

"He is in the groove now. He will come off the pitch on a high. But I want to know what happened at Man Utd, why didn’t it go well there. The plus point for Man Utd is a lot of teams will want him now."

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 PSG

Manchester United paid Borussia Dortmund £73m for Jadon Sancho in July 2021 but the English winger struggled to reproduce his best form at Old Trafford and rejoined the German side on loan in January.

Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist told TNT Sports: "Sancho looks like a different player entirely. His body language is like the player Man Utd bought.

"You can tell a lot from body language and he wants to take people on and play. He certainly looks rejuvenated.

"It is confidence, he has his mojo back. He is in an environment where he is liked and he looks like a different footballer."

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 PSG

Jadon Sancho completed 12 dribbles against Paris St-Germain, the most completed by a player in a Champions League match this season.

It was also the most by a player in a Champions League semi-final since Lionel Messi in April 2008 against Manchester United (16) and the most on record in the competition by an Englishman (since 2003-04).

The on-loan United winger, 24, also completed 45 passes and created three chances, the main one falling to Niclas Fullkrug as Dortmund's goalscorer fired over from Sancho's second-half cut-back.

  7. Bonner's match-winning double 'written in the stars'published at 07:47 British Summer Time 2 May

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Matt Beard said Gemma Bonner's match-winning double against her former club Chelsea was "written in the stars".

The Reds captain scored twice in the second half of Wednesday's dramatic 4-3 win at Prenton Park to derail Chelsea’s bid for a fifth successive Women’s Super League title.

Beard said: "I guess it's just written in the stars really. Two great headers, credit goes to my coaching staff on the set-plays. We're a big side. It took us a while to get goals from set-plays. We knew the way they set up that we could exploit it."

It was the perfect way for lifelong Liverpool fan Bonner to celebrate becoming the first woman to make 150 appearances for the club.

After a year at Chelsea, her first Reds spell came between 2012 and 2018.

The 32-year-old led Liverpool to their two WSL title wins under Beard in 2013 and 2014, and returned last season to help them recapture past glory.

Both Emma Hayes and Jurgen Klopp had hoped for a triumphant farewell having said before the end of the season that they would be leaving Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively, this summer.

At one point, both teams were in contention for a quadruple, but it seems the only trophy they will win between them is the League Cup Klopp's Liverpool side won in February.

So why has it gone wrong for Hayes and Klopp? Please let us know your thoughts via the usual channels listed above.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said "the title is done" after her side were beaten 4-3 by Liverpool in the Women's Super League on Wednesday.

Despite holding a 1-0 half-time lead at Prenton Park, the Blues lost control after the break and succumbed to a damaging second defeat in four days.

Having been eliminated from the Champions League by Barcelona with a semi-final loss on Saturday, Chelsea are six points below WSL leaders Manchester City with a game in hand and eight goals to make up.

"I think the title is done," said Hayes, whose side have three matches left to play.

"Of course, mathematically it's not, but I think the title is done. Our job between now and the end of the season is to keep pushing until the end, but I think it will be very difficult."

Emma Hayes had been hoping to end her glorious reign as Chelsea boss on a high before taking over the US national team this summer.

But after being on course for a quadruple, the Blues now look like they will end the season empty-handed, with Hayes having conceded the Women's Super League title to Manchester City.

  12. Chelsea denied after late dramapublished at 07:22 British Summer Time 2 May

    Liverpool 4-3 Chelsea

Aggie Beever-Jones had put Chelsea ahead after just nine minutes at Prenton Park when she headed home a Catarina Macario cross, but the visitors were made to pay for failing to extend their advantage.

Liverpool were patient and rewarded for their determination as Gemma Bonner and Sophie Roman Haug both scored from corners to give them a 2-1 lead.

Chelsea dug deep as they rallied to turn the scoreline around and revive their title hopes, but the late drama saw them suffer yet more heartbreak in their quest for a fifth straight league title.

The Women's Super League title slipped out of Chelsea's hands as they were stunned by a late defeat at Liverpool.

Reds captain Gemma Bonner snatched an injury-time winner in a thrilling seven-goal spectacle.

While Chelsea still have a game in hand on leaders Manchester City, a six-point deficit means their rivals must slip up in their final two matches for Emma Hayes' second-placed side to have any chance of winning a fifth league title in a row.

An 83rd-minute own-goal by Liverpool goalkeeper Teagan Micah meant the reigning champions thought they could at least leave Merseyside with a draw.

But Bonner's header, on her 150th club appearance and her second goal of the game, provided a dramatic conclusion after the hosts had twice let leads slip.

Leanne Kiernan struck in the 81st minute to make it 3-2 to Liverpool, firing past Chelsea keeper Hannah Hampton and cancelling out an Aggie Beever-Jones equaliser just moments earlier.

  14. 'Outrageous' and 'rejuvenated' - Sancho has 'mojo back'published at 07:11 British Summer Time 2 May

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 PSG

    Andy Cryer
    BBC Sport

"Outrageous", "rejuvenated" and "arrogance" - Jadon Sancho was the talk of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Manchester United loanee breezed past Paris St-Germain defenders time and time again as Borussia Dortmund took a slender 1-0 advantage in the Champions League semi-final first leg and left many Man Utd fans asking why their club could not get the best out of the forward.

The 24-year-old had completed more dribbles by half-time in front of Dortmund’s raucous ‘Yellow Wall’ on Wednesday than he managed in any of his 58 appearances in the Premier League as he showed signs of being the player United paid Dortmund £73m for in July 2021.

His high-profile move to Old Trafford saw him struggle for form and consistency, scoring 12 goals in 82 appearances, and falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.

Dortmund fans though are enjoying a different player since his return on loan in January - one who could help their side into the Champions League final against either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium.

  15. Fullkrug goal earns Dortmund first-leg winpublished at 07:05 British Summer Time 2 May

Niclas Fullkrug scored a brilliant first-half winner as Borussia Dortmund beat Paris St-Germain 1-0 in a frenetic first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The Germany international used his right foot to expertly bring down a long ball before hammering home with his left foot to give Dortmund a 36th-minute lead.

After a poor first half, PSG missed several chances to equalise in the second, with Kylian Mbappe curling an effort off the inside of the post before Achraf Hakimi struck the woodwork moments later.

Fullkrug should have scored a second after great work down the right flank from on-loan Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho but the striker could only blaze over the bar from five yards out.
