  6. Vini's special momentpublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 23 October

    Real Madrid 5-2 Borussia Dortmund

Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid have proven to be a real thorn in the side of Borussia Dortmund recently.

Los Blancos claimed their 15th European crown in June with a 2-0 win over the German side before coming from behind in magnificent style to topple Dortmund 5-2 last night.

The Brazilian, who is favourite to win the Ballon d'Or on Monday, scored his first Champions League hat-trick during the win.

  7. Arsenal edge past Shakhtar Donetskpublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 23 October

    Arsenal 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

    Alex Howell
    BBC football news reporter

Arsenal beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League thanks to an own goal by goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk as they bounced back from defeat by Bournemouth at the weekend.

Gabriel Martinelli’s effort in the 29th minute bounced off the post and hit the Shakhtar keeper in the back before trickling over the line as the home side's dominance paid off.

Leandro Trossard had the chance to score a second for Arsenal from the penalty spot late on, after the video assistant referee deemed Valerii Bondar's arm to be in an unnatural position, but his effort was poor and saved by the impressive Riznyk.

Mikel Arteta may have more problems to think about as Ben White did not come out for the second half, although he was on a yellow card, and Riccardo Calafiori was withdrawn after receiving treatment following an awkward slip.

Arsenal will be delighted to be back to winning ways after what they hope was a blip against Bournemouth and now can focus on a crucial game against top-of-the-table Liverpool on Sunday.

  8. Aston Villa's dream Champions League run continuespublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 23 October

    Aston Villa 2-0 Bologna

    Neil Johnston
    BBC Sport reporter

Aston Villa's magical Champions League journey continued as they marked Unai Emery's second anniversary in charge by going top of the league phase on another European night to remember.

Captain John McGinn, Villa's longest-serving player, set his side on their way against Bologna straight from a free-kick at a raucous Villa Park.

McGinn's 55th-minute set-piece from out wide evaded everyone inside the penalty area - including Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski - before landing in the back of the net.

Villa doubled their lead nine minutes later when Jhon Duran marked his first Villa Park start for 11 months by sweeping home from close range, his seventh goal of the season.

Having beaten Swiss side Young Boys and heavyweights Bayern Munich earlier this season, Villa now have nine points from three games as Emery's side continue to make light work of their return to European football's top club competition.

They currently sit top of the Champions League league phase before tonight's matches.

  12. Last time out...published at 18:35 British Summer Time 23 October

Both Liverpool and Manchester City secured routine victories last time out with Arne Slot's men beating Bologna 2-0 and Pep Guardiola's side thrashing Slovan Bratislava 4-0.

That marked a first victory in the competition this season for Manchester City, who drew against Inter Milan in their opening match.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could make it three wins in three games this evening after they beat AC Milan in their Champions League opener.

Finishing in the top eight is the aim for both of these sides so only wins will suffice you would think.
